The moment the jet touched down, Gideon headed straight for the hospital.
The butler was already waiting at the reception.
"Kayden," Gideon called out, his steps urgent. "How is my mother?"
"She is in the ICU," Kayden replied, his face tight with anxiety. "The doctors say her condition is critical. Anything could happen."
Gideon's heart sank.
His father was gone. His brother was still trapped in a coma. And now his mother lay in the ICU, fighting for her life. He couldn't afford to lose her, too, couldn't bear the thought of her slipping into unconsciousness as well.
"Wasn't she taking her medication?" he wondered.
"I remind her every day," Kayden said with a heavy sigh. "She shouldn't miss a single dose."
"Then how did this happen?" Gideon's voice rose, frustration blending with fear.
"She was fine when I left to run some errands," Kayden explained. "But when I came back, she was gasping for air. I called the doctor immediately."
