They stepped toward the bridge.
Only half the railing remained, and there was enough breakage in the bridge to make anyone worried. If they slipped, then the fog below the bridge would be their end.
Heera pointed cautiously.
"The mana distortion here is… strong. If we fall, it won't be just falling. It'll warp us into who-knows-where."
"We won't fall. Here, take my hand, and I will pull you to safety whenever you want me to."
Cane said simply and extended his hand toward Heera. She just giggled as she took his hand.
"That's very helpful."
They advanced slowly.
Cane walked first, testing each stone with controlled steps while Heera followed close behind, her spellbook ready to cast stabilizing magic at a moment's notice.
Cane, however, barely looked down. Due to his operator, he knew where he needed to stop. Whenever he started to stop on the wrong tile, his system vibrated and warned him..
Halfway across, the bridge vibrated.
Heera's breath caught.
