Light put down his pencil, slowly admiring his work
"I'd say I did pretty good, considering it was my first time learning a new language and all."
He looked at the twelve different papers in front of him, each having the same thirty symbols repeated on them.
He took one last look over them, some still not drawn the right way, and stood up, out of his chair, and stepped away from the desk. To the right of the desk was a dresser, made out of the same dark wood as the desk was, and to the left, a window directly in between where his desk and bed were. It was currently night outside, but the city below was still fully lit and bustling with activity, the only thing separating Light and the city was a mountainous forest. And the building he was currently in, of course.
Turning away from the window, Light looked to the top of the dresser, where a curious lamp sat with a candle serving as the light. The wax of the candle never dripped or shortened, it always turned on when it was night, as well as turning off when morning came. Light stared at the candle for a little bit, letting his mind wander on about how it could work, before snapping back to attention and walking over to the dresser.
He reached into the top most drawer, the first of three, and pulled out a set of clothes. They were rather bland, a white under shirt made of cotton complimented by a tan top with grey pants, both made of cloth.
"I see the teacher leave with these exact clothes on every time he heads into the village. Figured that I'd sneak a pair away from the laundry area for that exact reason."
Ever since arriving to this world a month ago, Light had wondered a few things. The first, and most obvious one, was why had he been transported here, to the Godly Realm? The second, and more curious one, was how he could return to his world, or if he even could? The third, and least normal, was what had happened to his parents from this life when he was transported to the Godly realm?
The last time Light had remembered seeing his parents from this life was when they were freaking out about the bright light that came when he was born, but he hasn't seen them since. He tried to ask the teacher that Neutral had assigned him but the teacher simply ignored Light and told him to focus on his studies for the survival exam that was coming up in a week and a half. If he tried to press the subject even more than the teacher would simply leave the room.
It didn't help that the week after he learned how to talk, a second Demi-God had appeared. This was a rare occurrence and gave the teacher an actual excuse to leave if he ever asked again so he stopped pressing the subject.
However, Light didn't give up, he was simply biding his time. Every time the teacher would leave the school Light would track how long he was gone for, writing down the estimations each time until he found out a common trend.
After this, he snuck out of the school one night during the estimated time that the teacher was supposed to be gone for and tracked how long it took him to get down the forestry mountain and how long it took him to get up, as well as a few tests in between. After all the tests, he concluded that he'd have a gap of four hours to visit the city below and find some answers.
"Six hours starts~ now."
Light watched as the teacher left the building before cracking his window open and jumping out of his bedroom, located behind the school on the first floor. He carefully made his way down the mountain, making sure not to damage his city attire on the way, and went through the forest below with relative ease. He exited near the city entrance, where a ten foot wall could be spotted going around the city, but walked along the tree line until he reached near the back side of the city, where he suddenly scrounged around for something in the bushes.
"Damn it. They didn't find it now, did they?"
Light mumbled to himself in a somber tone, before his face lit up
"Found it! Finally!"
From the bushes, Light pulled out a long rope with four planks wrapped at the end of it to form a cross. He made it last time he scaled down the mountain to test how long it'd take him to target over the wall.
He swung the grapple hook, like a cowboy would to a lasso, and threw it over the wall. He slowly pulled it back until he couldn't anymore and then tugged on it for reassurance. After he knew it was safe, he began to climb. Thanks to him being a Demi-God, he may look six but he had the strength of a fully grown man, allowing him to scale the wall quickly.
He got to the other side of the wall and took off, leaving the rope where it was. This was the only day that Light planned on going to the city, so he wouldn't need the homemade grapple again for a long time. Plus, by the time he did the guards would've likely discovered it.
He started his trek into town, being as silent as possible and checking for guards around every corner. Eventually, he got to the main part of the town where he could lower his guard, if just a bit, and look around for answers.
The first thing he did was go around to local bars. It was a little difficult to get in since he looked like he was six, but he resorted to climbing the roof with a nearby ladder and poking holes into the ceiling to listen in. Alas, this attempt was to no avail. After he eavesdropped on conversations for an hour, the only thing he had learned was how "Sandy cheated on…" or "Tom's a terrible husband too…" prompting him to eventually leave.
"Go figure, it was probably too much to expect these people to know anything important. They're just considered mortals in this realm, nothing unique about them."
The second thing he did was search for a kind of information hub. He spent two hours searching for one, going around the entire city, but no such thing existed in this city. And if it did they were very good at hiding.
The final place he checked was the alleyways. He was searching the alleyways for about half an hour before he came across something that was an unexpected surprise.
*****
Light's time in the city was near an end so he checked one last alleyway, in fear that he might miss something important, and what met him was very surprising. It was a child that was crouching down. She was wearing a brown hoodie made of cloth with long, flowing blond hair revealing itself from underneath. He stepped towards the child only for them to hear him and look up at him.
"I'm still twenty feet away at least, no mere child should be able to detect me from this range. Unless…"
"Who are you? You smell different from the rest."
The child, now revealed to be a girl, was looking up at Light with a quizzical look. Her eyes, the color of the sea, seemingly piercing through Light as if she knew what he was thinking. He had a gut feeling of who she was but had to confirm something else first.
"Why are you here? A little girl shouldn't be camping out in the back of an alleyway."
"So what? You're a little boy in the back of an alleyway. Why does it change from girls to boys?"
The girl retorted back, seemingly forgetting about the previous statement.
"W-well… That's different. I… I'm older."
Light said back to her, quickly adjusting his speech to that of a six year old.
"Damn, she's too smart for her own good. She looks like she is four at most. Even if she is a Demi-God, why is she so smart?!"
Light thought, letting his expression slip so he seemed even more childlike.
"Well you probably are! You see, I'm only two weeks old but my teacher calls me a genius so I'm probably smarter than you!"
The girl told Light while she stood up. Causing Light to see what her face looked like in full.
She was maybe two and a half feet in height with a childish face to match. She was no doubt the other Demi-God candidate he had heard about two weeks ago.
"I can assume that we Demi-Gods age at a much faster rate compared to the average person based on my own growth. This means that she should be around the age of three in human terms, meaning she just learned how to walk and talk. I can assume she's smarter than the average person, maybe even Demi-God, considering that she's already able to walk and talk naturally. The only thing bothering me is why is she in the city? In a time where she's still relatively famous?"
"You're probably wondering why a Demi-God, such as myself, has gracefully allowed you to look at her. Am I right or am I right?"
Light was a bit taken aback by this question, but he played along and responded in an even tone
"You are right, why is a graceful Demi-God like yourself here in a time where you're so famous?"
She seemed taken aback, as if she didn't think she was right, but eventually regained her stature and responded proudly,
"This graceful Demi-God is here to explore your mortal city. She got bored being coped up in a school all day long."
"So her grace is in a school all day long?"
"Yes, a very big and horrendous place. But she got bored and snuck out to the city below. Now she's lost in this alleyway and will likely get scolded by her teacher when she gets back."
The Demi-God started to tremble a little bit, as if thinking about her punishment, before her face lit up like she remembered something.
"Since you're here, guide me to the village exit and this graceful one will give you a reward."
She looked at Him with a smug like grin, as if she got the one up on Light, and started to trot over towards him.
"She's a smug little brat, I'll give her that much. But she needs to learn some respect. I needed an excuse to search around a little bit longer. So telling the teacher that I saw her leave and, fearing for her, followed her down to the city to make sure she didn't get hurt. That sounds like something a six year old would say, right?"
She looked at Light with a confused expression,
"Why do you look like you're thinking? You're not supposed to think, just do. You're a mortal after all"
Light had gotten a little angry at that statement, but didn't let it show, and asked her one last question
"I'm sorry, your grace, but I was just confused about something."
She tilted her head to the side with a confused expression and asked
"What are you confused about?"
Light braced himself for a punch, depending on how highly this girl thought of herself, and asked his question
"A lowly mortal like myself couldn't possibly dream about escorting someone of such high prestige. So he was hoping to receive his reward now instead."
The girl looked at Light a little disappointed but, surprisingly, didn't punch him but instead asked
"Most mortals are grateful to help a God, let alone get a reward. Whatever, what would that reward be?"
Light sighed in his head, relieved that the hard part was over, and asked his question
"Can this lowly one know her highnesses name?"
The girl looked at him, a confused expression for a bit, and then tried to hold back some sudden laughter. This made Light a little bit confused but she eventually responded,
"That's all? I thought you would ask me to beat someone up or give you important information. I think I should take offence to the fact you didn't buy whatever. I was going to force you to show the way if the request was too hard but since it's easy I'll tell you. My name is War, War the Demi-God."
Now it was Lights turn to hold back laughter
"This poor girl. I'd bet that Good and Evil brought up going to war again during her naming ceremony which led to Neutral naming her. If only she knew how little those three cared for us. Maybe her ego would go down then."
"What's so funny? You wanna get beat kid?" War looked at Light with an angry expression
"Nope, your grace, nothing's wrong."
Light turned around and started to leave the alleyway while War trotted behind him.
"Let's go, we'll stop by some places first before leaving. I have some… errands to run."
Light responded while checking outside the alleyway just in case guards showed up.
"Fine by me, as long as I get out of this place in one piece."
War said back in an uninterested tone.
Light and her left the alleyway, unaware that a fateful event had happened in that alleyway the moment they had met. An event so impactful that generations of God's would talk about it… If they remembered, that is.
