Chapter 12 - 12

The news of the Delta Force rescue team made the surviving students grateful to be alive.

"We'll be rescued soon."

"Thank goodness. We're still alive…"

"Those monsters are terrifying! Where do they even come from?"

Just then, thousands of Splitters had only one classroom left to breach.

That was Lin Fan's classroom.

The door, blocked by dozens of stacked desks, rattled again.

And the sturdy barrier immediately fell apart as a Splitter bit through the door panel, trying to squeeze in.

The students panicked again.

Lin Fan pulled open an indoor ventilation duct: "Escape through here."

However, human nature is so fragile; in this environment, most people did not support escaping, but rather prayed that the door would hold out a little longer.

Because their saviors, the Delta Force, were on their way.

If they went into the ventilation duct, they didn't know where it led, and with so many terrifying monsters outside, the Death rate would be even higher.

Lin Fan chuckled inwardly; this was exactly the outcome he needed, foolish Mortals.

Gwen was helpless; she calculated that the Splitters would Breakthrough very soon, and the rescue team couldn't possibly arrive that quickly, so these people were doomed.

In the end, only four people followed Lin Fan's suggestion.

Gwen. The Spider-Woman in disguise.

Peter. The Spider-Man who had temporarily lost his abilities.

Jessica. The beautiful girl with a bun and glasses. (Source: The Amazing Spider-Man.)

Thomson. The boy who often bullied Peter.

Thomson led the way, entering the ventilation duct, then Peter, followed by Jessica, and finally Gwen.

But at this moment, the Splitters came in!!

"You guys go quickly."

Lin Fan pretended to be self-sacrificing, sealed the ventilation duct, and then jumped down to fight the Splitters.

Gwen knew very well that Lin Fan hadn't left because he wanted to buy them time to escape through the ventilation duct.

Facing an unknown number of Splitters, Lin Fan was sure to be in grave danger. Thinking of only a few tens of minutes of acquaintance, yet Lin Fan could make such a sacrifice for her, she really wanted to go back and fight those Splitters with Lin Fan.

But Jessica pulled Gwen: "Hurry, don't waste the time Lin Fan bought for us. We must live; we can't let his efforts be in vain."

"Mm…" Gwen bit her lip hard, then followed Jessica away, the screams behind them beginning to fade.

As the mastermind, how could Lin Fan be a mere extra? He was just putting on a show.

The surviving students in the classroom had no survivors under the fierce attack of the Splitters.

Lin Fan's branded suit changed at this moment, the wide hooded robe covering his body reappeared, and a ferocious mask made from a Zergling skull attached to his face. "Now it's time to deal with those Delta Force."

The Splitters then retreated like a tide, surging towards the rooftop, vast and mighty, emitting sharp roars.

After the Delta Force searched the top-floor classrooms, their hearts were heavy; there were no survivors here except for bloodstains, internal organs, and broken body parts. And even they, accustomed to Death, would experience uncomfortable physiological reactions upon seeing the situation here.

"Something is approaching, a lot… over 1000 in number." A scout holding a radar detector said nervously.

Paken, the Commander of this operation, made a tactical gesture.

Immediately, these men used the surrounding buildings as cover.

They set up light machine guns, ready to fight.

The corridors inside the teaching building were not wide, very suitable for defense, but they were not fighting humans!!

Splitters poured into the top-floor corridor.

"Fuck you, open fire…"

"Feed them all the fragmentation grenades."

"Oh my God, God must be playing a joke on me, this is a dream."

"Wake up, Soldier, empty your magazine."

The Splitters charged forward relentlessly, fearless of Death; even the covering fire of bullets couldn't stop their advance.

However, the firepower of the light machine guns was enough to shatter the Splitters.

But the number of Splitters was too great!!

They used their bodies as shields, constantly charging, and even if they were shattered, there were Splitters behind them to take their place, ensuring the continuous advance of the group.

And what was originally easily defensible due to the corridor's width now became a reason for the Delta Force's deep hatred.

Because the number of Splitters was too many, so many that the concentrated fire of existing light machine guns did not constitute suppression, yet there was no more space for them to deploy. But if it were in a more open environment, these Splitters would be more dispersed, making concentrated fire even harder to achieve suppression.

This was a very contradictory problem.

Just as the Splitters, at the cost of hundreds of casualties, were about to overwhelm them, a wave of thrown fragmentation grenades relieved the pressure on the front-line gunners.

The temporarily weakened Splitters were shattered into pieces.

However, the Zerg void created by the fragmentation grenades only lasted for a few short seconds before being filled again by Splitters, and this time only allowed the gunners to change magazines; they had no chance to even breathe, only to numbly pull the trigger again.

Once they stopped, these mad Beasts would immediately overwhelm them.
