Chapter 2 - the plan

He stepped out of the shower, feeling the cold air around him. He heard the rain tapping on the window; it had a soft and calming melody. Miro walked up to the window and opened it to enjoy the view. After a while, he returned to his room.

"Elvo, where are you?"

Elvo appeared from under the covers of the bed. They got up and flew toward Miro.

"Yes?"

"Could I ask my question now?"

They sighed.

"Yes."

"Okay… so my horse's hair got braided, and I wanted to know the one that braided my horse's hair, is that my soulmate?"

He waited excitedly for the answer.

"No."

A sad wave went through Miro's body.

"Wait, whattt? Then who is my soulmate?"

"I can't tell you that. I can only guide you in finding her," Elvo said calmly.

"Can you tell me where she is then?"

"Ah ha, of course the classic 'where is she' question. I can do that, of course, but I need to look into your eyes to see…"

Elvo came closer, looking deeply and intensely into his eyes. Suddenly, they screamed in horror and disbelief.

Miro got startled by the high-pitched sound.

"WHAT HAPPENED?"

Elvo started to panic.

"Oh boy, oh boy, why me, why me!"

"Elvo, please calm down and tell me what is going on!"

Elvo looked at him sadly. For some reason, Miro started feeling sad and scared, as if he already knew the answer.

"Your soulmate… isn't here."

Miro's eyes widened.

"Oh no is she dead?"

"Whaaaat? Nooo, she's just out of your reach." Elvo forced a smile, trying to make Miro less sad.

"Is she on the other side of the world? Because I will travel-"

They stopped him.

"No, Miro, she's not in this timeline… she's in the future. Or maybe you're in the past."

Miro was utterly speechless.

"Let me explain better," Elvo continued. "You're in Lexem, and she's somewhere in Lexem but not now. I saw that she is 1000 years away from you."

Miro started to lose it.

"How is that even possible? I… I mean, seriously??! Why did I even get you, and what should I do now?"

"Calm down, Miro. We could look for other people that would match with you. It's not that bad."

"No, I want my soulmate."

Miro started pouting.

Elvo sighed.

"You haven't even met her."

"So? She's my soulmate we're meant to be together. We're bonded. I can't just go for someone else. She's probably waiting for me."

"Yeah, probably… or not. Anyhow, it's impossible." Elvo started flying again.

"No."

"No?" Elvo looked at Miro, surprised.

Miro's expression changed.

"We will find her."

"Umm… how?"

"We're going to your higher-ups and asking them to send me to the future."

Elvo started laughing.

"That's a ridiculous plan. The higher-ups would never accept that."

Miro looked him dead in the eyes. A shiver ran down Elvo's back.

"We are going and we are going right now."

Elvo gulped.

"Yes, sir."
