Chapter 14 - LEVEL 2 had begun

As the countdown ended —

"3... 2... 1..."

Everything changed with a jolt.

Ethan was no longer in a room.

Around him, neon streaks of light raced,

as if the network itself were alive and breathing.

With every step, waves of data formed beneath his feet.

He moved forward, and before him emerged a digital city —

broken buildings, codes floating in the air,

and on the streets, silence had been replaced by the soft whispers of signals.

Suddenly —

a shimmering shadow appeared before him.

A black hoodie, face half-hidden in glitch.

"Who… are you?" Ethan asked.

The shadow spoke —

"I am Echo… your predecessor."

Ethan froze.

"Predecessor? You mean… you're trapped here?"

Echo laughed, but it wasn't a human laugh —

"Trapped? No… integrated. Now, I and the game are one."

Suddenly, his eyes glowed red.

"If you want to survive, Ethan…

find the truth before the Creator devours you."

At that moment, sirens blared all around.

A message appeared on the screen —

"ENEMY DATA CLUSTERS APPROACHING…"

Echo's voice echoed —

"Run now!"

Ethan turned and saw —

thousands of pixel-creatures, like code bugs, racing toward him.

Their eyes glowed,

and with every scream, the data walls behind them dissolved.

Ethan clenched his fists —

and suddenly, blue lines of energy shot from his palms —

digital energy blades!

"Alright…" he said,

"If this is a game —

then I'll play too."

He roared and charged forward —

striking the first creature.

As the blade hit, its body shattered into code.

But with every fallen enemy, messages appeared on the screen —

"ERROR LEVEL RISING…"

"SYSTEM INSTABILITY: 24%"

Echo's voice broke through —

"Ethan! Every time you strike —

the system weakens… and it awakens!"

"Who is it?" Ethan shouted.

Echo's voice came, soft and broken —

"The Creator."

The sky above split open —

and from the rift emerged a face,

half-human, half-code,

eyes crackling with blue lightning.

"Welcome back… Ethan."

Then the entire city shattered —

light, noise, and a flood of broken data everywhere.

Ethan fell to the ground.

Something was written on his palm —

"Find Maria."

He murmured,

"Maria…? But she's dead…"

Still, from the depths, the same broken voice repeated —

"Player One… reconstruct the past."

The next level had begun.

LEVEL 2: THE MEMORY CORRIDOR.

As Ethan stepped into LEVEL 2: THE MEMORY CORRIDOR,

he looked around.

All the buildings of the city had vanished.

Now there was only a long, endless corridor,

walls, floor, and ceiling all made of flowing streams of glowing code.

With every step, the lights of the corridor shifted,

as if some powerful program were playing with his memories.

"Where… am I?" Ethan whispered to himself.

His voice echoed in the shadow of Echo —

"This… is the corridor of your memories.

At every turn lies your Vergangenheit, Ethan.

You must face the truth, or… this place will consume you."

Ethan took a step forward, and then a fragment appeared before him —

a glowing shard of memory.

The shimmering scene held him in place.

It was… Maria's laughter,

but distorted, broken into pieces.

"Maria…?" Ethan whispered.

As he reached out, the memory shattered,

and before his eyes, old events began to unfold:

Ryan's laboratory experiments

Maria's sudden disappearance

The event that caused The Merge

Every scene echoed with distorted voices —

"You left us…"

"You'll never understand…"

As Ethan tried to move forward,

the walls of the corridor began to ripple.

Streams of code swirled around him,

and Echo's voice spoke again —

"Ethan, piece the memories together.

Only that will lead you to the Creator.

But beware… every mistake in this corridor could turn you into data."

Suddenly, a large fragment fell before him —

an old photograph of Maria,

her eyes reflecting both fear and hope.

Ethan reached to grab it —

and then, from the middle of the corridor, a black screen enveloped him.

On it appeared a message:

"CHALLENGE INITIATED: FACE YOUR PAST."

Ethan took a deep breath,

recharged his blue energy blades,

and stepped forward —

ready to confront the first memory.

In the corridor, streams of light and shadow collided.

Every memory, every truth, appeared like an enemy.

LEVEL 2 had begun —

a place where not only his strength, but his courage and confrontation with the truth, would be tested.
