Chapter 18 - Ork Food

The gangs' efficiency was quite good.

Or rather, it wasn't their efficiency that was good, but that there were simply too many people in the lower levels of the Hive City.

According to the Imperium of Man's regulations, these individuals in the lower levels of the Hive City weren't even considered citizens of the Imperium of Man.

They were in a state of being unloved and uncared for.

This led to an abundance of orphans and children of all kinds everywhere.

Although Noah initially stipulated that good health was a prerequisite, under a sufficient population base, even if finding healthy individuals was difficult, these gangs still managed to find quite a few.

In just 10 days, they delivered 80,000 people to Noah.

80,000 people.

With so many people, his current dwelling certainly couldn't accommodate them.

Noah needed to find a new place to settle.

Continuing to reside in the under-Hive of the Hive City was definitely unsuitable.

This was, after all, the Imperium of Man's territory, and being discovered would be quite troublesome.

Constantly expending his psionics wasn't a good idea either.

It wasn't that Noah was reluctant to use his psionics, but that the psionics of this world was too strange; he hadn't found the Warp here.

And the energy the Warp could provide him was too chaotic; every time he restored his psionics, he had to spend a long time sifting out the impurities.

This sifting was even done with the aid of Terran Federation equipment.

He truly couldn't understand why the Warp in this world was so chaotic.

The power within it was less like psionics mixed with chaotic corruption, and more like chaotic corruption mixed with a hint of psionics.

Although he wasn't afraid of this chaotic corruption, psionics was like something he was going to consume.

Imagine if your food had a lump of feces stuck to it; could you really eat it?

Noah was currently in such a state. For him, extracting psionics from the Warp to restore his psionics consumption was equivalent to picking food out of a pile of feces.

Every time he did this, Noah felt despair.

He had to constantly persuade himself, telling himself that this psionics was purified, delicious, not feces.

But no matter how clean feces were made, as he said before, could that change the essence of it being retrieved from feces?

To avoid constantly depleting his psionics, Noah made a decision: he would move; he would move out of this Hive City.

"Adjutant Alexander, bring up the holographic image of this planet for me, and find a suitable temporary living place.

It needs to be habitable but also sufficiently hidden. I don't want to waste energy on concealment, so find me a sufficiently hidden place that the Imperium of Man won't notice."

The holographic 3D planet image in front of Noah immediately zoomed in and then pointed to a plain.

This plain looked lush and green, filled with various kinds of fungi.

Food shouldn't be a problem. Noah nodded with satisfaction at this sight.

However, he seemed to have nodded too soon. Just after he finished nodding, some ork boys appeared in his vision.

If it were someone from the Imperium of Man, they would probably be cursing right now, but Noah was different; he nodded even more gleefully.

Orks... he had captured several of these peculiar creatures for research during this time, and finally discovered that these things were edible. They were composed of fungi and animal tissue.

The well-developed muscles and brains of these creatures were pure animal tissue, while their blood and internal organs were pure fungal tissue. Such tissue was truly unique.

Because these two things clearly shouldn't form a creature, yet under Noah's research, he found that these two things combined were surprisingly harmonious.

It was like Noah completely couldn't understand why there was an empire composed of geological creatures in the galaxy.

In short, this creature completely exceeded the Terran Federation's biological research system, but that wasn't the point. He wasn't researching how orks formed; he was researching whether orks could be farmed and eaten.

Some orks, had fungal tissue that couldn't be digested when consumed by ordinary people of the Imperium of Man.

According to his research, to eliminate this fungal tissue, temperatures above 2500 degrees celsius were required.

And if the fungal tissue wasn't eliminated, these things would actually grow new orks within a short period!

Clearly, this was a very dangerous food.

Although, according to the Terran Federation, humans' physiques could completely eat and digest them, it wouldn't affect the Terran Federation's people.

But who made all the people under him originally from the Imperium of Man?

So, he definitely had to consider some things.

That fungal tissue was inedible for his current people.

However, as mentioned before, orks are composed of fungal tissue and animal tissue. Fungal tissue is inedible, but animal tissue is edible.

Most orks with blades have muscle growth that outpaces other organs during their development.

Therefore, their muscles would be more compact, fibrous, and very large.

These muscles could become some of the best meat in the entire galaxy.

To verify this idea, Noah personally cooked an ork bicep steak.

After centrifuging the blood with a civilian centrifuge and slicing the bicep into steaks perpendicular to the muscle fibers, it was marinated in high-quality brandy for a day. This would fill the steak with the aroma of wine and fruit.

Its color would also be quite appealing, becoming very pink and tender. After marinating, this food could be thrown into the oven and baked at 1800 degrees for 40 minutes.

Baking this for 40 minutes was the optimal time. After baking, the steak would be incredibly tender, and its muscle tissue would be completely destroyed by the high temperature.

Of course, considering that all of these people were recruited from the Imperium of Man, for their safety, when cooking, these steaks would generally be sterilized at high temperatures of around 2400 to 3000 degrees.

This way, it could be ensured that there were absolutely no problems, and a delicious ork steak would be successfully made. This was truly the best news for Noah.

Now that he was alone, he certainly couldn't produce large quantities of grain to feed the people under him. Orks were different; orks grew and reproduced extremely quickly, and also had a lot of meat.

More importantly, he was currently researching how to also eat these fungal types, which would allow for a balanced diet of meat and vegetables.

After a bit more research, it could completely satisfy all the dietary needs of human commoners, and most importantly, their yield was enormous.

In Noah's eyes, were the orks on that plain really orks?

No.

That was his warehouse.

Those were all his food storages, those were his fields!

More importantly, where there were orks, the Imperium of Man generally wouldn't pay constant attention, meaning it was safe.

Killing two birds with one stone, wasn't it?

It met the food requirements and also solved his concealment needs!
