Chapter 4 - Souls do not lie

As a senior researcher of the Terran Federation, he had some insight.

Noah did not stay in place but carried the humanoid creature, suspected to be human, and left the location of the fortress.

For Noah now, other matters could wait; he first needed to determine if the humanoid life form in his hands could be classified as human.

If so, he might have to change his attitude towards these people.

fellow humans could be won over and needed to be treated equally.

If not, he would consider other things.

Noah formed a psychic shield with a layer of psychic, protecting the soldier inside.

Then, he unleashed his body, a product of genetic engineering, and sprinted away at a speed of 1800 kilometers per hour.

Guided by the map provided by classmate Alexander, Noah avoided areas suspected of having life forms and instead arrived at a barren mountain with nothing around.

Looking at the desolate hill before him, Noah clenched his fist and punched the hillside fiercely.

With a loud bang, a cave was forcefully carved out by his fist.

Immediately after, Noah threw the soldier inside, while he himself began to collect various materials he needed from the surroundings.

To determine if the fellow in his hands was human was simple: just ascertain its underlying soul.

This was the method chosen by the federation after several genome scans revealed a group of people causing chaos, and it was found that they could not be identified by genes.

Directly verify the soul.

A creature can change its gene sequence, but it cannot change its soul.

By directly probing its underlying soul, one can determine if it is a human citizen.

The Terran Federation would never let an alien exist, nor would it harm a human; this was the creed of the Terran Federation.

Soul inspection equipment was quite difficult to build. Noah rushed around, collecting a large number of materials, even "adventuring" several times into places suspected to be cities, where he collected the materials he needed.

After two full days of searching, Noah finally gathered all the things he needed.

Meanwhile, the soldier remained in a coma.

Noah's psychic maintained his vital signs but kept him from waking up.

After collecting all the items and placing them before him, Noah gave instructions to classmate Alexander.

"Adjutant Alexander, scan these materials in front of me, purify and quantify them, and manufacture the federation TX690 model soul verification device."

*Material scan complete*

Alexander's blue holographic projection unfolded in the cave,

*Promethium crystal purity insufficient, suggest using psychic catalysis. Warning: Unknown energy contamination detected, need to activate Level 1 purification protocol*

Noah's fingertips flickered with silver-white psychic flames, melting the collected metal fragments into liquid. He frowned, looking at the turbid impurities floating in the air—

These materials were mixed with some kind of chaotic energy, resisting purification like black oil stains.

"Go directly with quantum filtration; I'll help you purify these things with psionics."

Noah shot a stream of psionics from his hand into the liquid metal. Instantly, the black substances twisted and vaporized like living things, leaving only the purest materials he needed.

*Reconstructing molecular structure*

The hum of nanomachines echoed in the cave.

*TX690 model soul verifier assembly progress 37.5%...*

Watching the soul verifier being assembled, Noah felt a little dazed and puzzled.

He clearly understood what the previous thing was: a very strange Warp energy contamination.

To be honest, this was the first time Noah had encountered such Warp energy contamination.

This thing only appeared in the early days of the Terran Federation; after the federation slaughtered the five entities in the Warp, these things never appeared again.

But it didn't matter; after all, the federation had encountered it before, so there were contingency plans for this kind of contamination.

The federation had 10 levels of contingency plans for Warp energy contamination, and what he encountered now was merely Level 1, insignificant.

Theoretically, this level could be directly ignored.

Theoretically, this level of thing wouldn't even have much impact on an ordinary ant; ignoring it was also an option.

However, Terran Federation researchers are generally very rigorous. For anything that could potentially have any negative impact on the human body, they would directly eliminate it.

As a former Terran Federation researcher, Noah was naturally the same.

Anyway, eliminating this insignificant Warp contamination wouldn't cost anything, so Noah simply took action and eliminated it.

After more than a minute, the TX690 soul detector was successfully manufactured. Noah grabbed it and scanned the soldier in front of him.

*Verifying underlying soul imprint...*

*Verification complete. The soul is somewhat fragile but can be confirmed as a Human Citizen.*

*This unit recommends immediately sending him to a federation gene hospital for emergency treatment.

This Human Citizen has modified his genes to the point of being unrecognizable and needs to have his gene programming reshaped.*

Noah directly ignored the latter sentence.

He didn't even know how far he was from the federation now, let alone sending a fellow human back to the federation. If possible, he wanted to return to the federation right now.

Alas... Noah sighed heavily, picked up the bento box in front of him, and began to eat heartily.

This food was reconstructed from the things he had collected earlier.

To be honest, in the federation, humans generally preferred to eat naturally grown food.

While reconstructed food like this had no difference in taste from ordinary food, there was still a big difference in how it felt psychologically.

However, Noah clearly had no ability or right to be picky now.

He could only silently endure the food he had just made for himself.

To be honest, he had been hungry for quite a while, and a good meal was indeed a happy thing.

Noah happily began to enjoy his dinner, casually withdrawing all the psychic from the Death Korps of Krieg.

Since he was confirmed to be human, he could be allowed to wake up.

Incidentally, he also prepared a bento box for the soldier opposite him, so when he woke up, he could have a full meal.

After all, he was a fellow human and could not be treated harshly.
