Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Wealth

Jiang Ran returned to her room and sat down at the desk by the window.

There was a red plastic mirror on the desk, with a picture of a Hong Kong actress stuck on the back.

Jiang Ran looked at the back for a while before turning the mirror around to see how she looked now.

This mirror was bought by the original owner, but the original owner hardly ever used it.

Although Jiang Ran got the original owner's memories, she still didn't quite know what she looked like now.

That little guy Pei Jing was so good-looking, surely because of good genetics. As his mother, she couldn't be too bad-looking, right?

As Jiang Ran thought about this, she also saw herself in the mirror.

A large, oily face, full of pimples.

Because of too much facial fat, the features had been squeezed together.

Her eyes were narrow and long, her nose small, with no bridge to be seen.

Her mouth wasn't big either, looking quite bloodless.

Seeing this face in the mirror suddenly, Jiang Ran's first reaction was: That's not me! That's definitely not me!

But no matter how unwilling Jiang Ran was to admit it, the person in the mirror was indeed her.

Jiang Ran sighed several times before picking up the mirror again, examining her current face seriously.

Because she was too fat, her face became oily.

As for the pimples, it was partly due to being overweight, partly due to hormonal issues.

After Jiang Ran checked her pulse, she discovered that although the original owner looked fat, her body was actually very weak.

Especially being so overweight put a heavy burden on her bones and internal organs.

If this continued, it would not only affect her health but also her lifespan.

Having already died once, Jiang Ran just wanted to live well, so she needed to lose weight and adjust her health simultaneously.

They say even a clever housewife cannot cook without rice. No matter how good Jiang Ran's medical skills were, without medicine, it was all in vain.

Their village was not far from the county town, only an hour's walk.

But, where was the money to buy medicine?

Ask Mr. Pei and Mrs. Pei?

Even if they would give her any, Jiang Ran couldn't bring herself to ask.

Though carrying the original owner's body, Jiang Ran didn't truly possess her personality.

As she thought this, Jiang Ran laughed.

The original owner had money, didn't she!

After thinking carefully, Jiang Ran finally remembered where the original owner stashed the money.

She removed a red string from her neck, which had a key attached.

This key opened a small drawer on the desk.

Inside the drawer, there was only a box.

And in this box, was the original owner's money.

To be precise, it was the money the male lead had sent back over the past four years.

Two months after he left, he sent money home.

Since then, he sent money every month, without fail for four years.

As time went on, the amount of money sent back increased.

All this money was held by the original owner.

When the original owner was happy, she bought some food, fabric to make clothes and shoes.

Even the mirror on the desk was something she bought.

Even though after buying it, she only used it once and then let it gather dust on the desk, she didn't let anyone else touch it.

Thinking about this, Jiang Ran really didn't know what to say.

The male lead, the Pei Family's son, was accomplished and capable, sending money home, probably hoping the family could live more comfortably.

The original owner, however, held onto all the money tightly, not leaving any for others.

Jiang Ran didn't dwell on it further; instead, she took out all the money and seriously counted it.
