Lian snapped back to reality. "Uncle Jun is inside... and I'm pressed against the door eavesdropping? What if Mom sees me?" Without thinking, Lian spotted the greenery outside the office and darted into it.
His mother seemed irritated. Arriving at the office door, she didn't notice Lian's absence.
She kicked the office door: "Jun, what are you doing in there? Stop pretending. Get out."
Immediately, the sound of furniture crashing echoed from inside.
Soon, a slender woman in a nurse's uniform, disheveled and flustered, pushed open the door. She gave Lian's mother an awkward smile and hurried away.
Mother remained calm, watching the nurse's departure.
