Mathias stood frozen in the middle of the room. A strange, incredulous smile slowly spread across his face, his brows lifting in utter disbelief.
"Roland... took my wife?"
Leon kept his eyes fixed on his brother, his hands tightening protectively around the infant.
Mathias let out a short, harsh bark of laughter. "You're joking, right? This is some absurd attempt to pull me into your gloom."
Leon slowly shook his head side to side.
The laughter died instantly on Mathias's lips. "He took my wife... from the very heart of my own estate?"
Without waiting for an answer, Mathias stepped forward, his movements unnervingly calm. He carefully reached out, taking the sleeping infant from Leon's arms, and laid her gently onto the plush bedding of the cradle, tucking the blanket around her tiny shoulders.
"Sleep well, little one," he murmured softly.
