Chapter 54 - Gilneas

Since the Pit Lord Mannoroth was summoned to Azeroth, the Lich King has been demoted from a temporary decision-maker to a high-level grunt.

The Legion, which was originally clueless, is gradually forming an offensive strategy with a clear strategic plan.

To hold a position second only to the two commanders among demons who advocate solving everything with violence, he relies not only on his powerful strength but also on an intelligence that demons severely lack.

Within the Burning Legion, the powerful ones lack brains, and the brainy succubus race lacks power, creating a peculiar balance.

Banehollow led the demon and undead Scourge south to attack the magical kingdom of Dalaran to seize the book of medivh.

The Lich King, on the other hand, controlled other undead to start building ships, preparing for the army's westward crossing.

Once Dalaran is breached, The Legion can also successfully cross westward, striking directly at Mount Hyjal, using the energy of the second Well of Eternity to destroy Azeroth.

Everything was planned perfectly, orderly, and with clear division of labor.

The Lich King, stripped of his military authority, also patiently used the newly formed Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to fell trees and build large ships.

The remaining undead in Northrend were gathered and sent to Kalimdor to establish outposts, scout the movements of the night elf, and prepare for the arrival of The Legion.

The situation in Gilneas was not good; the undead Scourge, composed of civilians from Stromgarde, Grim Batol, and Southshore, had already exceeded one hundred thousand in number.

The Greymane Wall was originally built to defend against the Alliance and the orcs.

Terenas used orc internment camps to bleed Alliance members, aiming to weaken them in preparation for unifying humanity and rebuilding his empire.

Now, the desired effect was not achieved; instead, the undead Scourge took advantage of the weakness.

This massive wall has now unexpectedly become a barrier against The Scourge; when Stromgarde fell, Gilneas did not send troops to support it.

The fall of Stromgarde only proved that King Genn's previous decision was correct; it was the existence of the great wall that ensured the kingdom's safety.

Lordaeron was led by Dathrohan, one of the first paladins, joined by refugee dwarves from Grim Batol and mages from Dalaran, pushing south to hold their ground.

Since the black dragon princess came to Lordaeron to serve as the crown prince's finance minister, Stormwind Kingdom finally sent troops to support this time, to be overseen by Dathrohan, together resisting the undead moving north.

Other great lords were busy eradicating the undead and the Cult of the Damned within their territories and were temporarily unable to assist.

The Alliance army to the north was incredibly formidable; it would not be an exaggeration to call them the most elite troops.

The undead could only attack Gilneas. It just so happened that the Lich King was assigned to build ships, but now, building ships was nowhere near as fast as pillaging.

There were only three places to obtain a fleet: Lordaeron, Kul Tiras, and Gilneas.

Lordaeron was out of the question; its fleet was not strong, and all ships had been dispatched to the crown prince and to support Stratholme.

Kul Tiras was across a vast expanse of sea, and even though the undead didn't need to breathe, there were quite a few terrifying creatures underwater willing to gnaw on bones.

Sneaking in from underwater was possible, but it was essentially a one-way trip.

After much thought, wasn't Gilneas a ready-made soft target?

The number of ships was just right for transporting the undead, and the demons only needed to be counter-summoned on the other side to be teleported, saving time and effort.

Darius brought news of Alliance reinforcements, which was initially exhilarating.

But now, the undead outside were gathering more and more, yet Alliance reinforcements were nowhere to be seen, and with the undead beginning to attack the city walls, if this continued, even the sturdy walls would not be able to withstand the endless, relentless bombardment day and night!

Who knows what King Genn was thinking, but he actually ordered all soldiers to cross the city walls and actively fight the undead in the wilderness.

Having no experience in war against the undead, they had no idea that such an action was tantamount to seeking death!

The undead Scourge, armed with catapults, abominations, gargoyles, and Crypt Fiends, easily crushed this army of fifty thousand.

And under the gaze of the soldiers on the city walls, the fallen soldiers were reanimated as ghouls, joining The Scourge and wielding their blades against their former comrades!

The one dispatched to command The Legion was Reno, the eldest son of the Great Lord Mograine, one of the new Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!

Riding a skeletal steed, he held a longsword and directed a sarcastic laugh at King Genn on the city walls, his laughter piercing the air.

"Your troops are dying every minute, while my soldiers grow in number! Die, old man!"

The dead were mixed with an inherent hatred for the living. He had previously been suppressed and reviled by his father, who hoped to temper his character and eventually succeed him as Great Lord.

However, the misguided educational approach backfired, twisting Reno's character and ultimately leading him to patricide.

Now, with such great power in his hands and commanding an army, the feeling was truly immensely satisfying, this was his lifelong pursuit!

"It's Reno Mograine! Damn it, wasn't he a paladin? How did he become undead?"

"Didn't he follow the Lordaeron crown prince to suppress the undead? Did Lordaeron fall?"

Genn was both shocked and enraged. On one hand, he was glad for Lordaeron's misfortune, hoping that even the crown prince would die.

On the other hand, he feared the combat power of the undead; such a snowballing method was unheard of!

If these undead were not dealt with, they would destroy the entire kingdom of Gilneas!

"Do you have any other ways to kill these damned undead?"

Darius wanted to speak, but his daughter held him back, shaking her head at him.

It was clear that retreating to Lordaeron was a topic not to be brought up again. At this critical juncture, it could easily be labeled as colluding with the enemy and treason, or even being an undead spy was highly possible.

Everyone knew the King's aversion to the Alliance; making him rely on his former enemies would be worse than death.

He would rather see the entire kingdom buried than bow to his enemies.

At this moment, a gentleman wearing a top hat stepped forward and bowed slightly.

"Your Majesty, perhaps we can consider summoning that ancient existence to fight the undead."

"No!"

Darius was greatly alarmed. Those so-called ancient existences were actually Worgen!

Genn no longer wanted to look at this great lord who was too close to the Alliance; he turned to the Royal Archmage.

"Arugal, what do you think?"

The archmage, called by name, felt his scalp tingle. He relayed the information about the Worgen, which he had found during his studies in Dalaran.

Almost every mage would go to Dalaran, which was jointly managed by humans and high elf, and was a sacred place in the hearts of all mages.

It possessed the most comprehensive knowledge and the most powerful magic; those who had not studied in Dalaran were not even worthy of being called mages!

The so-called Worgen were ancient variations of Druids. Druids revered the way of nature and could tear apart any enemy with the power of beast demigods.

Among them, the Feral Druids wielded the power of the Wolf God. This power allowed them to transform into Worgen, making them much stronger than other Druids.

They easily tore through high-ranking demons of the Burning Legion, and for a time, they halted the allied forces' decline.

But it was precisely because of this overly powerful strength that those Druids lost themselves, eventually transforming into Worgen beasts, indiscriminately attacking any living creature, including allies!

After trying many methods and still unable to cure these transformations, the night elf had no choice but to banish them to the Emerald Dream to slumber, hoping to find a cure in the future.

This history was not recorded in the Dalaran library; instead, it only mentioned scattered details of how powerful Worgen were in combat and their strong resistance to magic.

If the Worgen could be summoned to Gilneas, the current undead army would be no threat at all.

As for the aftermath?

That would have to wait until they survived. With the kingdom facing annihilation, who had the mind to consider such things?

Everyone looked at King Genn, awaiting his decision.

Would Gilneas be overwhelmed by the undead and face annihilation, or would an ancient existence be unleashed to tear apart this horde of undead?
