"Still alive, huh..." she heard that all too familiar voice and she froze. Her eyes grew wide, and she slowly turned her face to the side. Jang Han Seok was seating on the same chair Shin woo had left, with a devilish smirk on his face. Fear clutched her heart and the next moment the food spat of her mouth to his face. He felt disgusted, but though she was scared of what he might do next, she concealed her emotions.
"What are you doing here?" she asked. Jang Han Seok took the napkin and wiped his face gently.
"That's not a way to apologize, Jana" he told her "But, oh well, I don't need it. I understand it's out of shock and fear. It's alright" Jana blinked. He was speaking a little friendly and not dark like he always do.
"I--I asked what you're doing here"
"To see you, of course. I'm happy that you're still alive" he smiled.
"You tried to kill me!"
"Well, I was just scaring you. Showing you what I can do to you" he replied, smiling. Not smirking.
"You're crazy. Why won't you leave me alone?"
He didn't say a word, but tilted his head to the side. Staring at her face with an unfathomable gaze. Then he said, "I've been meeting you for so long. You didn't bother to ask for my name"
"I don't need to know your name. You're just a demon. Nothing but a demon" she spoke with certainty. His head tilted slightly backwards and his gaze got dark for a moment. And then he smiled.
"It's Jang Han Seok" he told her.
She glared at him. She didn't ask him to tell her. She didn't want to know his name. "If you're doing this to make me do what you're asking, then you're wrong. I won't do it. Find someone else"
"Your willpower is strong. That's why you're special. You can do the job perfectly" he smiled. Ha! She?! She could barely kill a fly. Not to talk of a human.
"Why must it be me? What is your gain in all this?" she questioned.
He leaned back on the chair and took in air "To be free " he said, and her brows furrowed. "I... was once a human too. That was four hundred years ago. I didn't have everything I want but I was happy. With my mother and sister. We were all happy together until...until I met him. It was late at night and I was returning home after working that day. He wanted to kill me. He wanted my soul because he saw I was a hard-working person who lived happily. Or mainly because I was a meal for him."
"I didn't want to die yet. I wanted to keep seeing my mother and sister. I didn't want to leave them. So I begged, I told him I'd do anything he asks of me." Han Seok scoffed and chuckled painfully "He captured me, made me drink a demon's blood for a whole month. For breakfast, lunch and dinner. I became a turned demon and did whatever he wanted. But since that day I was captured, I never saw my family. I wanted to survive because I wanted to keep seeing them, but I never had the chance. I killed so many people...so many humans. I defied my kind, just because I wanted to survive. Because there was no hope for me. Even the great guardian of humans didn't come for my help when I cried. What would I have done? I had to survive"
"Recently, he promised to let me go.... if I get this job done. I can't kill these people with demonic powers. I am even weak right now and my powers are fading from trying to manipulate and cause fear for her every time. As you see, I'm no longer human, so I need a human to do this. All I want is to be free again, to stop killing. I'm tired, still I can't end my own life"
Jana had her eyes slightly red. She didn't know why she felt bad and why her eyes sting. She felt sad for him. She couldn't imagine the pain he must have gone through and the torture. He must have really suffered.
Jang Han Seok lifted his eyes and looked at her. He had never really shared his past with anyone, but here he is, saying what he tried to lock up and forget. "Think about it" he began "Killing either of them isn't a big deal. No one would know"
Shin woo would. Zayden too would. She already told them.
"Don't worry I could just erase their memories" he said, and she looked up at him. Did he hear her thoughts? "I did" he answered.
She glared at him "Can't I have privacy in my own mind?!" she yelled.
"It's not something I can stop my self from doing" he stood up and walked to her. Leaning downwards, he looked straight at her, but not compelling her. "Think about it. I didn't open my past to you just because I wanted to. I did to give you more reasons to do this. You can just see it as helping a lost soul. When I become free, we could be great friends. What do you think?"
"I don't want to be your friend!" she spoke through clenched teeth. He smirked and leaned back, taking steps away from her.
"I'll see you soon, Jana" he smiled and disappeared. Her chest went up and down. She breathed through her mouth. No matter what he says, no matter the nightmares, she wouldn't do it. She would never look for those people. If a demon like him can't kill these humans then, what can a mere human like her do? She would get trampled upon and die then. That would be the end of her life, and then she'll have to pay for a sin she didn't come commit. She rather die than kill innocent people.
