Inside Mindscape
Danzo Shimura's fingers, trembling slightly from adrenaline and sheer anticipation, peeled back the final layer of bandages from his right eye. The legendary Mangekyou Sharingan of Shisui Uchiha—the ultimate weapon of manipulation—bared itself to the cold night air. Without a second of hesitation, Danzo channeled his chakra into the stolen optic nerve, unleashing the world's most absolute and undetectable genjutsu: Kotoamatsukami.
He was absolutely certain of his victory. He was entering the underdeveloped, fragile, and undoubtedly traumatized mind of a seven-year-old child. A child who had been shunned by his village. A child desperate for validation. It would be effortless. He would plant his will so deeply into the boy's subconscious that Naruto Uzumaki would genuinely believe serving the 'Root' was his own lifelong dream.
But when Danzo opened his mind's eye to step into the boy's psyche, the reality of what he saw violently violently derailed his expectations.
There was no ground beneath his feet. There was no damp, foul-smelling sewer. There were no iron cages holding back a roaring beast, and there were no echoes of a crying, lonely child.
Danzo found himself standing upon the surface of an endless, mirror-like ocean. The water was a pristine, ethereal blue, so perfectly still that it reflected a starless, infinite sky. The air was crisp, devoid of any malice or killing intent. And there, in the absolute center of this boundless expanse, sat a colossal, snow-white fox. White Kurama's nine massive tails swayed with the gentle rhythm of a calm breeze. The beast had its eyes closed, radiating a sense of absolute, unshakeable peace.
A flicker of genuine confusion crossed Danzo's single visible eye. How could a Jinchuriki's mind be this calm? A vessel meant to hold pure hatred should be a tempest of rage and sorrow. But the seasoned warlord quickly regained his composure, striking his wooden cane against the surface of the water. The sound echoed infinitely.
Danzo: "So, this is the landscape of your mind, Uzumaki. Your sensory abilities in the physical world are as fierce as a raging storm, yet your mind is astonishingly tranquil. Fascinating. But make no mistake—this peace is now mine. From this moment on, your every thought, your every breath, your every instinct will follow my command. You will become the sharpest, most ruthless weapon for Konoha's Root."
Not a single ripple formed on the mirror-like water. Naruto was not physically present in this space, but his voice echoed from the infinite depths of the ocean beneath Danzo's feet—a cold, entirely emotionless resonance that surrounded the old man from every conceivable direction.
Naruto: "Kotoamatsukami. It infiltrates the subconscious, seamlessly rewriting a person's core desires, their loyalties, and their life's goals without them ever realizing they are being manipulated. It is a brilliant, terrifying technique, Danzo. Truly a masterpiece of the Uchiha. But it possesses one fundamental, inescapable rule—to seize control, the target must possess a 'desire' or an 'emotion' for the jutsu to latch onto."
Danzo scoffed, striking his cane against the water with more force, annoyed by the boy's lecture.
Danzo: "Every human breathes through their desires. Fear of death, greed for power, the desperate will to live, the hunger for acknowledgment. You are no exception, boy."
Naruto: "I told you earlier, Danzo, back in the physical world. I have locked all those emotions away. I do not fear death. I do not crave your village's acknowledgment. Where there is no desire, what exactly is your genjutsu going to control? Your technique is wandering blindly in this space. It cannot connect to anything. It is like trying to fill a bottomless, empty vessel with air. You have no presence here, Danzo. You are powerless."
Danzo aggressively flared the chakra in Shisui's eye, his patience wearing dangerously thin. Frustrated by the boy's cold, impenetrable logic, he grew desperate to force his will upon the environment.
Danzo: "You are merely a child hiding behind heavy, philosophical words! You know nothing of the burdens of this world! You will be a weapon for Konoha because I demand it! To keep a massive, sprawling tree alive in the sunlight, a root like me desperately needs to absorb the nutrients hidden in the dark. Konoha needs my darkness to survive, and I need your power to enforce it!"
Naruto: "The entire foundation of your 'Root' is deeply, irreparably flawed, Danzo. You are pouring the blood of the innocent and piling the corpses of your own allies onto the roots just to keep a rotting tree alive. That is not nature. That is a parasite prolonging a sickness."
Danzo: (His voice dripping with cold, ruthless authority) "That is the absolute rule of this shinobi world. Human nature is chaotic and violent. True peace only comes through absolute, unquestionable control."
Naruto: "Control is an illusion born from a coward's mind. The true rule of the cosmos is—Destruction. When a structure rots to its core, when a system becomes so corrupt that it feeds on its own children, it must be burned to ashes. Only through absolute destruction can something new, pure, and untainted be born from the ashes. Your vision is incredibly, laughably small, Danzo. You aren't looking at the future of the village; you are just desperately trying to hide your own fear of irrelevance."
It finally dawned on Danzo that something was terribly, fundamentally wrong. His chakra was bleeding into the water, expanding outward, but nothing was changing. The sky wasn't darkening. The white fox wasn't being bound by chains. The boy's mind wasn't just resisting the Kotoamatsukami; it was completely ignoring it.
Danzo: "This is absolute nonsense! No human mind can be completely empty! I will crush this tranquil space with my sheer will—"
Naruto: (In a flat, chillingly deadpan voice that cut through Danzo's rant like a blade) "180 seconds."
The words caught sharply in Danzo's throat. He blinked. "What?"
Naruto: "A full three minutes. You were so utterly blinded by your illusion of superiority, so drunk on the belief that you were the master manipulator, that you didn't even notice... you have been standing perfectly paralyzed, like a lifeless statue, in the real world for the past three minutes."
Danzo's heart slammed violently against his ribs. A cold sweat broke out across his aged forehead. As a master tactician who had survived three Great Ninja Wars, the sheer, catastrophic magnitude of his blunder hit him like a physical blow. 'I got caught up in a philosophical debate? I let an illusion of conversation hold my attention? Standing motionless in the physical world for three whole minutes in the middle of a battlefield... that is a death trap!'
Panic—a raw, unfamiliar emotion for the old warlord—clawed at his chest. Danzo instantly willed his mind to sever the connection, to pull his consciousness back to his physical body. But at that exact moment, his single eye caught sight of something in the center of the ocean. Something that froze the blood in his veins and locked his soul in place.
Right behind the massive White Kurama, resting perfectly balanced upon a grooved, circular pedestal, stood a pitch-black, impeccably smooth, oval-shaped stone.
It emitted no chakra. It possessed no recognizable energy signature. Instead, it was an absolute Void. It felt as though the stone was passively absorbing every ounce of energy, light, thought, and existence around it. It radiated an aura of pure, ancient, and absolute 'Destruction'—a cosmic concept so vast, so incredibly heavy, that the human mind simply could not comprehend it without shattering.
Standing before that black stone, Danzo felt his entire existence strip away. His political power, his army of 1,000 assassins, his stolen Uchiha eyes, his decades of schemes—everything shrank into something infinitely more meaningless than a single speck of dust floating in a hurricane. He couldn't even draw a breath in its presence. The sheer weight of the entity it represented pressed down on his sanity.
'What... what exactly is this boy?!'
Consumed by a primal, overwhelming terror that transcended mortal fear, Danzo Shimura—the man who proudly called himself the darkness of the shinobi world—broke. He violently scrambled backward, desperately severing the Kotoamatsukami connection himself, fleeing back to reality to escape the crushing weight of the Void.
Scene 2: Flashback (The Missing 180 Seconds)
In reality, those three minutes inside the mindscape were not just an abstract exchange of philosophical words. In the physical world, the entire tactical game board had been violently flipped.
When Danzo first pulled the bandages from his eye and cast Kotoamatsukami, the real Naruto and Kushina were heavily immobilized. The black Fuinjutsu sealing array, cast by dozens of Root ninjas, glowed ominously on the scorched earth, binding their feet and locking their chakra networks. They couldn't move a single inch. Danzo stood perfectly still before them, his eye glowing red.
But at that exact second, from the dense shadows of the surrounding forest, the cold, authoritative voice of Naruto's hidden shadow clone rang out: "Now, Itachi!"
In the next heartbeat, a kunai sliced through the thick night air. Itachi Uchiha, moving with a speed that defied the naked eye, hurled a highly specialized, custom-made Fuinjutsu tag directly into the dead center of the 1,000 Root ninjas surrounding the area.
FLASH!
This was no ordinary ninja tool. It was a terrifying UV (Ultraviolet) Flash bomb—a lethal fusion of modern scientific theory and traditional ninjutsu crafted by Naruto. Regular flashbombs could be countered by simply closing one's eyes or looking away. But this tag released an invisible, high-frequency burst of ultraviolet radiation.
The intense, piercing light bypassed their eyelids entirely, instantly scorching the retinas of all 1,000 Root assassins. The elite killers, trained to feel no emotion, dropped their weapons as they were plunged into absolute, agonizing blindness. Piercing screams of sheer panic echoed through the dark forest as hands clawed at burning, useless eyes.
Exploiting the sudden, blinding chaos, Naruto's clone materialized on the battlefield, dropping from the canopy above. He slammed his palm into the dirt with immense force.
"Summoning Jutsu!"
With a massive, concussive plume of white smoke, a small, breathtakingly beautiful White Kurama appeared. Barely the size of a large dog, the miniature fox radiated a mysterious, warm, and pure golden glow. His nine small tails swayed peacefully, illuminating the darkness.
Amidst the screaming and the smoke, Orochimaru—who, as a legendary Sannin, possessed a modified body that healed his scorched retinas faster than a normal human—stepped forward. A venomous, excited smirk stretched across his pale face. He immediately recognized the danger the clone posed and darted forward, his hands already blurring through deadly hand signs. He intended to slaughter the clone and secure the Kyuubi for himself.
But before the snake Sannin could even take three full steps, a murder of black crows fluttered past his face, momentarily blocking his vision.
CLANG!
Orochimaru's kunai stopped dead in the air, blocked by a second blade. Itachi Uchiha had materialized out of the crows, completely cutting off his path. The young Uchiha prodigy stood between the Sannin and the clone. Maintaining his sinister, overconfident smile, Orochimaru made the fatal error of looking directly into Itachi's dark eyes.
And that was the legendary Sannin's final mistake of the night.
The Mangekyou Sharingan in Itachi's eyes spun wildly, blooming into a complex shuriken pattern.
"Tsukuyomi!"
Orochimaru was dragged instantly into a world of inverted colors and red skies. The Sannin's soul—already fractured, torn apart, and severely weakened by his greedy creation of Curse Marks and his unnatural pursuit of immortality—was incredibly fragile to spiritual attacks. He simply did not have the mental fortitude to withstand the boundless psychological pressure of Itachi's supreme illusion. Itachi subjected him to a lifetime of torture in the span of a picosecond.
Without uttering a single scream in the physical world, Orochimaru's eyes rolled back. He collapsed heavily to the dirt, his body entirely paralyzed, his mind shattered by the weight of seventy-two hours of endless agony.
Without missing a beat, Naruto's clone executed the next phase of the tactical master plan. He reached into his pouch and hurled a barrage of Blast Tags directly into the blinded, disorganized crowd of Root ninjas maintaining the sealing array.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The rapid, concussive explosions kicked up a massive cloud of dirt and debris. The shockwaves violently scattered the tightly knit Root formation, knocking dozens of them off their feet. The moment their physical linked positions were broken and their continuous flow of chakra was severed, the black Fuinjutsu sealing letters painted on the ground lost their power. The ink dissolved into dust.
The seal broke. The real Naruto was finally freed!
Without wasting a fraction of a second, the clone immediately dashed to Kushina, who was still physically immobilized by Orochimaru's Edo Tensei control. The clone slapped a neutralizing seal onto her neck, instantly restoring her ability to speak, but he immediately pressed a finger to his lips, signaling her to remain absolutely silent.
The small White Kurama leaped nimbly onto Kushina's shoulder. Pressing his paws against her neck, the fox flooded her undead body with his pure, warm, life-giving chakra. Taking total control of her chakra network from the inside, Kurama guided her arms like a puppeteer. Following the clone's rapid, silent visual cues, Kushina's hands automatically blurred through a sequence of complex hand signs.
Dog... Horse... Tiger...
"Edo Tensei Release!"
A brilliant white light erupted from Kushina's body. The dark, binding contract over her soul shattered once and for all. The ash covering her skin stopped flaking. Kushina was finally, completely, and permanently free from Orochimaru's control.
(Flashback Ends)
Scene 3: The Nightmare and the Meta-Joke
The moment Danzo Shimura's consciousness violently snapped back to reality, his single eye shot open in sheer terror. His chest heaved as he gasped for the cool night air, still haunted by the crushing weight of the Void in the boy's mind. But what he saw in the physical world was an absolute, unmitigated nightmare.
His invincible army of 1,000 elite assassins was scattered, blinded, and groaning in pain. His powerful Sannin ally, Orochimaru, lay paralyzed and drooling in the dirt. And Naruto Uzumaki was standing perfectly free, watching him with cold, calculating blue eyes.
Before Danzo's brain could even process the disaster, before he could formulate a single hand sign or shout a command to his disoriented troops, the earth beneath his feet violently ruptured.
Terrifying, highly condensed Blue-White Chakra Chains erupted from the ground with the sound of tearing metal.
Newly freed, Kushina watched this spectacle in absolute, breathless shock. Her violet eyes widened as she realized these chains were not hers. She hadn't cast any jutsu. She looked past Danzo and gasped. These boundless, devastating blue-white chains were erupting directly from the back of her 7-year-old son!
In the blink of an eye, Naruto's blue-white chains whipped through the air and coiled around Danzo's aged body like an inescapable, crushing python. The chains bound his arms, his legs, and his torso so tightly that the old warlord's bones creaked under the pressure. He couldn't even twitch a finger.
And in that same microsecond... Itachi Uchiha appeared inches from Danzo's face.
There was no dialogue. There was no hesitation. Moving with the cold, surgical precision of an Anbu captain, Itachi's two fingers darted forward. With a sickening squelch, Itachi plunged his fingers into Danzo's right eye socket, severing the optic nerve, and plucked Shisui's Mangekyou Sharingan straight out of the old man's skull.
"AAAAARGH!" Danzo roared. It was a harrowing, guttural scream of agonizing physical pain, total humiliation, and boiling fury. A thick, dark stream of blood poured down the right side of his face, staining his bandages crimson.
Showing absolutely no emotion at the brutal maiming, Naruto issued a calm, quiet command. "Itachi, take Mom and Orochimaru away from here."
But Kushina was not ready to leave. The trauma of her death, the pain of the Kyuubi attack, and the anger of being manipulated by Orochimaru all boiled over. Her vibrant red hair flared wildly in the air, floating behind her like nine menacing, blood-red tails.
"No!" Kushina hissed, her voice vibrating with demonic rage. She took a step toward Danzo, her eyes burning with pure, unadulterated hatred for the bloody, bound man before her. "I am not leaving this miserable pig alive! Naruto, when I was trapped inside my own body, forced to listen to that bastard Orochimaru's commands, I heard them talking. I heard their twisted little deals! This is the traitor... He is the one who leaked the exact time, the exact location, and the weakness of the barrier during your birth to that masked enemy! He is the reason your father and I died!"
Naruto's eyes widened fractionally. For the first time in the entire night, his intensely logical, hyper-calculating mind was genuinely taken aback. The gears in his head ground to a halt.
He stared at Danzo's bloody, miserable, pathetic face. He processed the sheer volume of tragedies this one single old man was supposedly responsible for. He orchestrated the Uchiha massacre. He allied with Orochimaru. He kidnapped children for Root. And now... he was the mastermind behind the Kyuubi attack too?
Suddenly, a strange, highly sarcastic, and deeply exhausted laugh escaped Naruto's lips. He shook his head slowly, raising a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose, acting as if he had just realized he was the punchline of a massive, absurd, cosmic joke.
"I am surprised yet again," Naruto said, taking a long, deep breath, his tone completely shifting from a cold tactician to someone severely tired of existence. "Hey Danzo... seriously, is there a single tragedy in the entire history of this shinobi world that doesn't trace back to you? What's next? Were you secretly involved in the destruction of Uzushiogakure too?"
Bound tightly by the crushing blue-white chains, Danzo's body visibly flinched for a split second. He instantly gritted his teeth, trying to harden his expression and hide his emotions, but it was too late. Naruto's hyper-sensitive emotion-sensing abilities caught the spike of guilt perfectly.
Naruto stared blankly. He was actually involved in the Uzumaki clan's massacre too.
Naruto let out a long, deeply exhausted sigh. His rational mind simply gave up on trying to process the absurdity of this reality. The writing of this world's history was just too stupid to take seriously anymore.
"To hell with this..." Naruto muttered softly, looking up at the sky. "This can't be real. What a pathetic, lazily written joke."
Naruto looked back down at Danzo. The killing intent he had earlier completely vanished, replaced by an expression of sheer, profound pity.
"Danzo..." Naruto spoke in a chillingly flat, deadpan voice that lacked any anger whatsoever. "I forgive you for everything."
Both Danzo and Kushina froze completely. The silence in the forest was deafening. "What?" slipped involuntarily from Danzo's bloody lips, confusion overriding his physical pain.
"Yes," Naruto smiled mockingly, a smile devoid of any warmth. "I forgive you. Because you aren't a real person. You are merely the answer to a shitty author's absolute lack of imagination. Whenever the writer of this world needs to cover up a plot hole, or introduce a villainous scheme, or explain away a tragic backstory... he just lazily slaps your name onto it. You aren't a human being with real motivations; you are just a walking, breathing trash can where every unresolved conspiracy gets dumped. You are a plot device. And I cannot bring myself to hate a poorly written plot device. I forgive you."
Kushina's brain struggled violently to process her son's bizarre, entirely incomprehensible words. Plot device? Author? But her rage over Minato's death had not subsided. Her chakra flared violently, cracking the earth beneath her feet, and she stepped forward, raising a hand to rip Danzo's throat out.
Instantly, the small White Kurama sitting on her shoulder sprang into action. He wrapped his golden chakra around her arms and waist, holding her firmly in place.
"Calm down, Kushina," Kurama's deep yet soothing voice echoed in her ear. "Naruto planned all of this meticulously. You do not want to ruin your son's masterpiece just to satisfy your momentary anger. Get a grip on your emotions and come with me. We are heading straight to the Hokage to end this."
Scene 4: Judge, Jury, and Executioner
Bleeding heavily from his empty eye socket, humiliated, and bound in chains, Danzo finally realized his entire life's ambition had crumbled to ash. He had lost Shisui's eye. He had lost Orochimaru. His army was compromised.
"Stop them!" Danzo screamed desperately at his recovering Root ninjas, some of whom were finally blinking away the blindness. "Kill the woman! Kill the Uchiha! I need to escape!"
"Too late," Naruto's icy voice cut through the air, vibrating with lethal intent.
The exact moment the words left Naruto's lips, crimson Fuinjutsu lines raced across the edges of the battlefield at blinding speed. They connected in a massive circle, instantly rising into the sky to form a colossal, impenetrable, transparent red dome. Danzo, his 1,000 Root assassins, Kushina, Orochimaru, Itachi, and Naruto—all were trapped inside the barrier.
Itachi smoothly hoisted the paralyzed Orochimaru over his shoulder, adjusting his grip.
"Aunt Kushina," Itachi requested, his voice laced with deep respect and urgency. "Please trust Naruto. Let him handle this matter. We must leave."
"What absolute nonsense are you talking about?!" Kushina yelled, struggling against Kurama's chakra hold. "He is my seven-year-old child! I am not leaving him alone in here with a thousand trained killers!"
"Not right now," Kurama stated with absolute, unwavering gravity from her shoulder. "Right now, he is not your son, Kushina. Right now, he is solely the judge, the jury, and the executioner. Let him do his job. We need to leave this barrier immediately, or we will miss the front-seat view of the greatest show Konoha has ever seen."
Kushina was still immensely conflicted. The trauma of losing him once fought violently against Kurama's overwhelming confidence. Despite the fox's reassurance, she refused to back down. She planted her feet firmly into the dirt. "No! I am staying!"
The small Kurama pressed harder, adding a bit of heavy, commanding pressure to his tone. "Come on, Kushina! I promise I will tell you everything on the way! A lot of insane things have happened in the last few years that forced these people to summon me and rely on your son. We have to go, now!"
Torn between her fierce, protective maternal instincts and Kurama's stubborn insistence, Kushina finally let out a frustrated growl.
"What... Fine! Fine, I'm coming!" Kushina huffed, burying her hesitation deep down. "But I demand to know everything! Start from the very beginning! How on earth did the great Nine-Tails suddenly become white and so... cute? And how the hell did you teach my little Naruto these terrifying, high-level techniques?!"
Kurama let out a deep, comically exhausted sigh, his ears drooping slightly. "I'll tell you, I'll tell you everything... just start walking first before the boy unleashes hell."
Kushina marched aggressively toward the glowing red edge of the barrier. Surprisingly, the highly complex, lethal dome melted like warm water upon her touch, allowing her to pass through unharmed. Itachi, carrying the heavy burden of Orochimaru, bowed his head slightly to Naruto and followed closely behind her.
Kurama's voice slowly faded into the distance as they walked into the trees... "Listen, when you and Minato died that night, Kushina... right after that..." The trio disappeared completely into the safety of the dark forest, leaving the battlefield behind.
Now, inside the massive, glowing red dome, only Naruto, a blood-soaked and chained Danzo, and 1,000 elite Root assassins remained. The air grew incredibly heavy.
Naruto looked calmly at Danzo, the blue-white chains still holding the old man tight.
"Now, Danzo," Naruto said in a casual, almost conversational tone, a stark contrast to the grim reality of their situation. "As I said, there is no bad blood between you and me. I have already forgiven you for your poorly-written misdeeds. Now, you only need to do one simple thing—peacefully surrender alongside all these poor, brainwashed Root ninjas. If you yield, we'll go see the Third Hokage together, sort out this mess, and I'll be on my way. So... do you surrender?"
Hearing the sheer condescension in the boy's voice, Danzo completely lost whatever remained of his mind. Veins bulged on his forehead. With a blood-stained face contorted in sheer, rabid madness, he screamed at the top of his lungs,
"Kill this arrogant bastard! Tear him limb from limb! Find the weakness of this barrier right now! Do not let him live!"
At Danzo's frantic command, the 1,000 Root ninjas—having finally recovered their sight—drew their kunai, tantō, and katanas. Moving with terrifying synchronization, they rushed toward the lone seven-year-old boy like a violent, unstoppable tsunami of black shadows.
Naruto stood perfectly still in the center of the charging army. He didn't take a fighting stance. He slowly closed his eyes, tuning out the war cries and the sound of a thousand rushing footsteps. He drew a very deep, slow breath into his lungs, letting the oxygen mix with his chakra, and exhaled softly, muttering to himself,
"So be it..."
Naruto extended both his hands forward into the empty space.
With a blinding, divine golden flash that illuminated the entire barrier, a small, beautifully intricate bow materialized in his firm grip. The weapon pulsed with ancient power. Simultaneously, a quiver full of glowing chakra arrows summoned itself onto his back, locking into place with a sharp clack.
He opened his eyes. Those deep, ocean-blue eyes were no longer calm, no longer apathetic, and no longer pitiful. They blazed with the terrifying, absolute fire of catastrophic destruction. The air around him began to warp from the sheer density of his killing intent.
Naruto filled his lungs to their absolute limit, tilted his head back toward the blood-red moon, and unleashed a terrifying, soul-shaking roar. It was a roar that shattered the dead silence of the night, utterly crushed Danzo's remaining pride, and pierced straight through the hardened resolve of the 1,000 assassins charging at him—
"HAR HAR MAHADEV!!!!!"
