Deacon should have known that it would not be as easy as just telling his family that he and Haley Slater were married. There was just no way that they would leave everything to chance. For his family, especially his father, Deacon marrying Haley Slater was an absolute nightmare.
So of course he would go out of his way to prove that that was not the case. To be honest, Deacon had to give it to his father, sending his younger brother was an inspired thought.
Had it not been for the suspiciousness of Brian's sudden absence. Deacon would not have even thought of such a thing. Now he was standing before his brother, Brian watching him with wide eyes.
Had he been just a few seconds later, it would have all been over. His brother would have opened the bedroom door, and would have realized that Deacon really was still living alone.
There would have been no way to salvage the situation, had that come true, but it had not, so Deacon still had a chance.
