Chapter 43 - I Bet Your Gun Is Unloaded

"Start scanning, Woz."

Leaning against a doorframe already covered in a layer of ice crystals, Beckett gave the order. The wartime command base was too vast, and Beckett didn't have the patience to measure its expanse on foot to pinpoint Astra's location.

"Understood, His Highness Beckett." The azure robotic cat twisted its plump body, its eyes gazing into the interior of the building. Beams of light shot from its eyes, scanning every corner of the frost-covered skyscraper, attempting to match Astra's face with the database.

"Found him."

A blue light screen projected before Beckett, and the numerous red dots moving rapidly caused him to frown.

"What's going on?"

"Your Highness Beckett, some of the Kree seem to possess devices that counteract frost magic. Besides Astra, there are twenty-nine other Kree who are unaffected. After matching with the database, their identities have been confirmed as high-ranking officials from Tofa Star."

As soon as Woz finished speaking, the light screen before Beckett suddenly expanded, displaying the faces of the thirty unaffected Kree, reflecting in his pupils.

Among the uniformly blue-skinned Kree, there were occasional individuals of other colors. To facilitate Beckett's identification, Woz had thoughtfully placed Astra's image in the first row, first column of the screen, with the label below bolded and in red.

"What's up there?"

Seeing that the red dots were all moving toward the same location, Beckett, while following their path, continued to have Woz report the situation.

"An information relay point. They are attempting to break through Woz's communication blockade and contact the outside world," Woz stated respectfully after completing the scan.

"A futile struggle." After retracting Woz's image back into his wristband, Beckett looked up at the ice crystals shimmering with a captivating hue in the sunlight.

His fists clenched, and power surged within him, an invisible wave of energy erupting at Beckett's feet!

Boom!

Knees slightly bent, he then leaped forward. Beckett's body shot straight towards the location where a cluster of red dots appeared on the light screen. The solid ice crystals and thick architecture turned into falling debris under the impact of Beckett's power, crashing to the ground.

Bang bang bang bang!!!!

The powerful impact utterly obliterated all structures blocking Beckett's path. As Beckett broke through the final obstacle and appeared in the information relay room Woz had mentioned, he was met with a dense array of dark gun muzzles.

"Oh? Waiting for me here?"

Deactivating the map projection before him, Beckett looked with amusement at the Kree who had raised their weapons against him.

"Fire!"

The Kree soldiers' attitude towards Beckett's appearance was clearly unfriendly. Dense streams of fire spat from their barrels, instantly engulfing Beckett's figure.

Clink clink clink clink...

Despite the barrage of attacks, Beckett sustained no damage, not even a negligible amount.

"Increase firepower!" The Kree leader clearly refused to believe it, but ultimately, they were met with agonizing despair.

"How naive."

Breaking the last firearm, Beckett stepped over the fallen bodies and pulled out the light screen from his wristband. The red dots on the map had significantly decreased, with the remaining half either still en route to this information relay point or having seemingly given up.

"Your Highness Beckett, Kree military messages have been detected. After losing contact with the Tofa High Command Center, they have realized something is amiss."

Woz's voice served as a timely reminder to Beckett, whose survival environment could turn dire at any moment.

"I know." Beckett coldly raised his right hand towards the massive machinery before him, and the energy surging from his palm effectively annihilated the command base's external communication systems.

Continuous explosions instantly deafened the ears of all Kree who were still mobile, causing their faces to contort in grim expressions.

With the communication center destroyed, their city had effectively become an isolated island for the foreseeable future.

"The enemy's objective is clear: to completely sever our contact with the outside world." Christine, the security captain of the research institute on the 404th floor of the building, had a grim expression.

This combination of moves by the Skrulls had truly caught him off guard. First, he was disgracefully defeated by the Skrull Magma, who even mimicked his face, and now they had turned the city into an isolated island.

"They won't last long. The army dispatched from Hala is nearing Tofa, and the defense forces of other cities should have also noticed something is wrong. We just need to hold on until they arrive, just until they arrive."

"Don't fool yourself, Christine. You know as well as I do that we can't trust anyone right now."

Astra, slumped on the ground with a snack in his mouth, tossed the cannon barrel he was carrying aside with a clunk. Amidst the swirling smoke, Astra's face was obscured: "Who knows if the army that arrives will be Kree or Skrull. You should be aware of the tragedy of Planet L77."

Mentioning L77, a memory he wished to forget, Astra's fierce face revealed a hint of sadness, and he unconsciously tightened his grip on the heavy cannon.

"Let's go. Since the communication center has been destroyed, we'll retreat outside. Freezing an entire city, the Skrulls must have used some special device, otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to do it."

After a long silence, Christine stood up and extended his hand to Astra.

"If you want to go, go by yourself. Don't forget, I can't leave the command center or the research institute for too long before returning to Planet Hala. Without the protection of a special magnetic field, the Skrulls can easily replicate the memories in my mind."

The snack in Astra's mouth caused Christine to frown; he didn't particularly like this smoky atmosphere.

"Want one? A specialty from Planet H91, it's quite potent."

Seeing Christine looking at him, Astra reached into his waist pouch, pulled one out, and tossed it to him. A bottle also rolled out.

Christine frowned, opened his mouth, but ultimately swallowed the words he was about to say. After tucking the items away, Christine cast one last glance at Astra before leaping out of the window.

"I hope when I see you again, you'll still be whole." Patting his backside and standing up, Astra, carrying the heavy cannon on his shoulder, continued towards the communication center.

He was a genuine scientist, blessed with a sliver of cosmic favor, though that sliver seemed to bring him more negative consequences. As long as the communication center wasn't completely destroyed, he had a way to repair it.

"Let's go, old friend."

Rounding the next corner with the heavy cannon on his shoulder, an unfamiliar silhouette immediately caught Astra's eye.

Silver armor shimmered with captivating halos under the scorching sunlight, his black hair moved as if in a breeze, and a vivid red tail swayed from side to side.

"I don't know who you are, but I'm sure you're not Kree."

Astra, shouldering his cannon and spitting out his snack, aimed at the unfamiliar figure in front of him. "Ever tasted a plasma cannon? If not, you're in for a treat."

"You can try,"

Beckett, who had followed directly along the map scanned by Woz, turned around. The arrogant smile on his lips was an eyesore to Astra.

"Interesting. Wanna bet on something? I bet you'll die." Whistling, Astra, who had spent years frequenting various entertainment venues, pulled the trigger.

"I bet your gun is empty."
