She made her bed everyday, a ritual she took pride in. But no matter how perfectly she smoothed out the sheets, her parents never noticed. It was as if the made bed was invisible, a mere explanation rather than an accomplishment.
But the day she forget, oh , that was a different story. Her mother's eyes narrowed as she stormed into her room, "can't you even make you bed? You are so careless! The words stung, and she felt a familiar ache in her chest.
It was the same with her exams. She studied hard, poured over notes and textbooks and breathed a sigh of relief as the result came in. But her parents' response? "Try harder. Your not living up to your potential." The praise she craved never came.
But when she failed, even slightly the disappointment was crushing. "All you know how to do is fail," her mother said, her voice a mixture of disappointment and disgust, the words echoed in her mind, making her feel like she was drowning in self doubt.
She broke down into tears that night, she changed herself and gave up on trying. She failed miserably in her next exams, she did not care what her mom would say. She became insecure,felt unloved and useless,she felt like a failure living under her parents shadows.
