Chapter 28 - This Time It Ends

Leo looked at Kurenai and Ayame.

"So," he said, calm but sharp, "they found Tendo again?"

Ayame nodded.

"Yes. Intelligence confirmed his location. Near the edge of Tokyo Kingdom. He's running a human trafficking ring."

Leo cracked his neck slowly.

The sound echoed in the quiet room.

"…Of course he is."

Kurenai folded her arms.

"He's surrounded by Nomand mercs and Flesh Dolls again. Same pattern as before."

Leo's jaw tightened.

"You know what," he said.

Both girls looked at him.

"This time I'm getting the job done," Leo continued, his voice flat.

"Killing him before he goes into hiding again."

There was no bravado.

No anger.

Just certainty.

Ayame studied his face.

"You're not joking."

Leo shook his head.

"No. I'm done playing cleanup while he keeps coming back."

Kurenai hesitated for half a second.

"…This is an execution, not a mission."

Leo met her eyes.

"He stopped being a 'target' the moment he started selling people."

Silence.

Then Kurenai nodded once.

"…Okay."

Ayame exhaled slowly.

"Then we plan this properly."

Briefing Room — Gosha Village

A holographic map lit up the table.

Ayame pointed.

"Abandoned shipping yard. Two warehouses. Underground holding cells."

Kurenai added,

"Civilians confirmed inside. At least twelve. Possibly more."

Leo leaned forward.

"Flesh Dolls?"

Ayame nodded.

"Unknown count. Minimum six."

Leo straightened.

"Then we go quiet."

He tapped the map.

"I take point. I draw the Dolls and mercs away from the holding area."

Kurenai frowned.

"That's suicide."

Leo shrugged.

"Good thing I regenerate."

Ayame looked uneasy.

"And Tendo?"

Leo's eyes hardened.

"He's mine."

Tokyo Kingdom — Night

Rain fell lightly over rusted steel and broken concrete.

The shipping yard was lit by weak floodlights.

A black van rolled to a stop half a block away.

The doors slid open.

Leo stepped out first.

Black tactical ninja gear.

Mask on.

Blindfold off.

His eyes glowed faint red for a second.

Kurenai landed beside him.

Ayame adjusted her sniper rifle.

"Rules?" Ayame asked quietly.

Leo flexed his fingers.

"No mercy for traffickers."

He looked at the warehouse.

"And no survivors for Tendo's inner circle."

Kurenai nodded.

"Copy that."

Ayame clicked her safety off.

"Let's end this."

Warehouse Interior

Two guards stood by the side door.

One yawned.

The lights flickered.

A shadow moved.

Then—

Both men were yanked backward into the dark.

No screams.

Just wet thuds.

Leo stepped out of the shadows.

"…Too easy."

His arm shifted.

Blacklight flowed.

Spikes formed.

From deeper inside the warehouse—

A distorted voice echoed.

"—What the hell was that—"

Leo smiled under his mask.

"Found me."

Far below, in the underground cell block—

Kazuma Tendo sipped wine.

Laughing.

Unaware.

They went deeper.

The air grew thick.

Metal corridors.

Dim red lights.

The smell of blood, oil, and fear.

Then—

Flesh Dolls stepped out from both sides of the hallway.

Three.

Then six.

Then more.

Leo didn't slow down.

"Left," he said calmly.

Kurenai nodded.

They moved at the same time.

Steel and blacklight cut through soft, wet bodies.

Limbs hit the floor.

Tentacles thrashed.

Kurenai sliced through a Doll's neck.

Leo impaled another through the chest and tore it in half.

They kept moving.

No pauses.

No words.

Leo's arm shifted into Bow Mode.

Blacklight shaped itself into a long, curved weapon.

He fired.

Three silent shots.

Cameras exploded down the hall.

Ayame's voice whispered through comms.

"Cameras blind. Two turrets offline."

Leo nodded once.

"Good."

They reached a reinforced door.

Kurenai kicked it in.

Inside—

Cages.

Chains.

People huddled on the floor.

Bruised.

Drugged.

Terrified.

And standing between them—

Dragon Gate members.

Thirty of them.

Guns halfway raised.

Too slow.

Leo's arm snapped into Claw Mode.

Blacklight surged.

He vanished.

Red blur.

First man—head gone.

Second—spine crushed.

Third—arms torn off.

Gunfire started.

It didn't matter.

Leo moved through them like a machine.

Claws.

Blades.

Spikes.

He didn't shout.

Didn't taunt.

Didn't slow down.

One after another.

Necks snapped.

Chests ripped open.

Throats crushed.

Thirty bodies hit the floor in under twenty seconds.

The last man tried to crawl.

Leo stepped on his back.

Crack.

Silence.

Kurenai stood still for half a second.

"…Jesus."

Leo exhaled slowly.

"Clear."

Kurenai moved fast.

She unlocked cages.

Cut chains.

"Follow the green lights," she told them.

"Don't stop. Don't look back."

The captives staggered out.

Some crying.

Some shaking.

Some staring at Leo in horror.

He didn't look at them.

He turned away.

Leo walked back into the chamber.

Bodies everywhere.

He closed his eyes.

Blacklight poured out of his arms.

It flowed into the corpses.

Flesh dissolved.

Bone cracked.

Blood steamed.

The mass collapsed inward.

Absorbed.

Compressed.

Consumed.

Kurenai came back.

She stopped when she saw it.

"…You don't have to do that."

Leo didn't open his eyes.

"Yes. I do."

The last body vanished.

The floor was clean.

Only dark stains remained.

Leo flexed his fingers.

"…Done."

Ayame (comms)

"I've got heat signatures moving underground."

Leo turned toward the deeper tunnel.

"…That'll be him."

Kurenai's jaw tightened.

"Tendo."

Leo's voice dropped.

"I'm not letting him run again."

Deep underground—

Kazuma Tendo heard screaming stop.

Then silence.

He stood up slowly.

"…That's not right."

The lights flickered.

Something heavy walked down the corridor.

Then Tendo heard something.

The door break.

He saw Leo and Kurenai.

He stepped back seeing them. "Oh".

Leo walked up. "Today you die"

He rushed, his claw hands ready to rip, then.

Clang!

There she was Ingrid

Ingrid looked at Leo. "We meet again".

Leo clicked his tongue. "Tch, no wonder".

Ingrid looked at him. "I have gotten stronger".

Black flames erupted.

Leo jumped away and summoned he tendrils. "So, did I".

Kurenai rushed. "I got this".

Clang!

She was blocked by a man. He is seen in black knight armor. However, it is mentioned that underneath his flesh and meat moves, so he might not have a human-like body without it. When he takes the armor of his body morphs into a form resembling Edwin Black. When he collected the demonic power fragments in the real Edwin Black and Kotaro, he takes a similar form to to Black's true form.

[Insert image of Teutates]

Kurenai looked at her rage came up. "You!"

Teutates looked at her. "Still mad, I almost killed your mother".

The temperature dropped.

Not cold.

Heavy.

Ingrid's black flames crawled across the floor like living shadows, licking up the walls. The light bent around her.

Leo's tendrils spread behind him, spikes forming along their length.

"So," Leo said calmly, "you brought backup."

Ingrid smiled.

"You always were troublesome."

Clang

Kurenai's blade screamed as it slammed into black metal.

She skidded back, boots carving grooves into the concrete.

Her eyes locked onto him.

Teutates.

The armor breathed.

Not metaphorically.

It pulsed, flesh shifting beneath plates like something trying to crawl out.

"You," Kurenai snarled.

Teutates tilted his head.

"Still holding a grudge?"

A low chuckle echoed from inside the helm.

"I almost killed your mother. You should thank me—she grew stronger after."

Kurenai's grip tightened.

Veins stood out on her arm.

"I'll rip you out of that armor."

Ingrid moved first.

She vanished in a burst of black flame.

Leo felt it—Taima particles twisting.

He ducked.

A blade of fire passed where his head had been.

He countered instantly.

Tendrils shot forward.

Ingrid spun, flames hardening into armor as the spikes struck.

They clashed mid-air.

Shockwaves rattled the room.

"You've changed," Ingrid said, skidding back.

"That power… it's unstable."

Leo smiled faintly.

"Yeah. That's what makes it fun."

Blacklight surged.

His tendrils split—shield in front, claws behind.

He rushed her.

Meanwhile with Kurenai

Steel met nightmare.

Teutates swung with inhuman strength.

Kurenai blocked—

—and still got thrown through a support pillar.

Concrete exploded.

She rolled, back on her feet instantly.

"You're slower," she said, wiping blood from her lip.

Teutates laughed.

"No. I'm heavier."

His armor shifted.

Plates opened.

Flesh bulged.

A massive arm slammed down.

Kurenai leapt, blade slicing through exposed muscle.

Black blood sprayed.

Teutates didn't scream.

He smiled.

Tendo watched from behind the containment glass.

Sweating.

Hands shaking.

"This… this wasn't the plan," he whispered.

Then—

Cracks spread across the glass.

Leo's tendril pierced through, stopping an inch from Tendo's face.

Leo didn't look at him.

Not yet.

"Don't move," Leo said flatly.

"I'll get to you."

Tendo collapsed to the floor.

Ingrid raised both hands.

Black flames erupted—filling the room.

Walls warped.

Reality bent.

Yuuko's spell residue reacted.

The corruption spread.

Kurenai felt it.

"This place is collapsing!"

Leo laughed.

Not loud.

Just… amused.

"Good."

He spread his arms.

Blacklight opened.

The corruption flowed toward him.

Flames.

Tainted mana.

Eldritch residue.

All of it absorbed.

The room stabilized.

Ingrid's eyes widened.

"…What are you?"

Leo looked at her.

"A problem you should've killed earlier."

Teutates Freezes

For the first time—

Teutates hesitated.

"That power…" he muttered.

"…It eats concepts."

Leo finally turned his head.

Red eyes glowing faintly.

"You're next."

Deep within the Blacklight Hive Mind—

Alex doubled over.

"—Okay, nope, that's new."

James stared at the battlefield feed.

"…He's not playing hero anymore."

Teutates took one step forward.

That was his mistake.

Kurenai vanished.

Not fast—gone.

She reappeared inside his guard, blade already moving. Steel screamed as it carved across his chest plate. The armor split, revealing the shifting meat beneath.

He tried to counter.

She didn't let him.

Strike.

Elbow.

Knee.

Another cut.

Each hit carried years of fury.

"You don't get to say her name," Kurenai growled.

Teutates staggered back, armor cracking, flesh recoiling.

"You hesitate," he sneered. "You always—"

She slammed her blade straight through his shoulder, pinning him to the wall.

"No," she said quietly. "I finished hesitating the day you touched my family."

She ripped the sword free and followed with a kick that caved his chest inward.

The armor screamed.

Teutates crashed through the wall and vanished into the darkness below—alive, but broken.

Kurenai stood there breathing hard, eyes shaking with barely contained rage.

Ingrid watched it all.

Watched Leo absorb corruption like it was air.

Watched Kurenai dismantle a monster she knew should have been unstoppable.

Her flames flickered.

"…This is no longer a battlefield," Ingrid muttered.

Leo turned toward her.

Red eyes.

Calm expression.

"You running?"

She smiled thinly.

"Strategic withdrawal."

Black fire erupted around her, swallowing her form.

Before vanishing, she looked directly at Leo.

"We will meet again," she promised.

"And next time, I won't underestimate you."

The flames collapsed inward.

She was gone.

Then Leo jumped and broke Tendo safety glass

Leo dragged Tendo by the collar across the floor.

Tendo was crying now. Not screaming. Crying.

Leo leaned close.

"You don't know this name," he said calmly, "but Alex taught me a lot about the human body."

Tendo shook his head.

"No—no—please—"

Leo smiled.

"I know exactly how much damage a body can take before it dies."

The lights flickered.

Then—

Silence.

Somewhere Else

Astaroth sat up slowly on her throne.

Her fingers pressed lightly against the armrest.

"…Oh," she murmured.

Her eyes glowed brighter.

"That power didn't reject corruption."

She licked her lips, fires curling behind her.

"It accepted it."

A low, amused laugh escaped her.

"This one… is dangerous."

And interesting.

Back in the Human world

The Dragon Gate members stared at Tendo's body in disbelief.

One of them whispered, "How is he alive?"

A doctor adjusted the monitors, pale.

"All bones are broken. Some twice. No vital organs were touched."

He swallowed.

"If he survives… he'll be nearly two feet shorter. Permanently deformed."

A pause.

"…You know that villain from DC. The Penguin?"

No one laughed.

Back at the exit, Leo wiped his hands clean.

Kurenai walked up beside him.

"Is it done?"

Leo nodded.

"Yeah."

And for the first time that night—

He looked tired.

Now what happened to Teutates

Teutates didn't fall.

He sank.

His body hit deep underground, stone folding around him as if the world itself rejected his weight. Armor cracked away in pieces, clattering into the dark.

Silence.

Then—

Laughter.

Low. Wet. Broken.

"…Hah… hahahahaha…"

His flesh twitched beneath the ruined armor. Bones shifted. Muscle rewove itself, not cleanly, not correctly—but better.

"So that's it," he rasped. "That's what you've become."

His body remembered the blows. The cuts. The rage.

He pressed a clawed hand to his chest as demonic fragments pulsed beneath the skin.

"My pet project," he whispered, voice trembling with delight.

"You didn't just survive."

His silhouette warped—taller, broader, less human.

"You evolved."

The laughter returned, louder now, echoing through the underground.

"Good," Teutates said. "Very good."

Ingrid stood alone in Nomand territory, flames still curling faintly around her boots.

She activated the communicator.

"Report," a voice demanded.

Ingrid's expression hardened.

"Target designation: Leo Fuuma."

Silence.

Then: "Status?"

Ingrid exhaled slowly.

"Confirmed Class-S threat."

That got their attention.

"He absorbs corruption. Adapts mid-combat. Demonstrates tactical restraint paired with extreme lethality."

She paused.

"…He dismantled Dragon Gate forces in minutes. Forced my retreat."

Another pause.

"You withdrew?"

"Yes."

No excuses. No shame.

"I advise all Nomand assets to avoid direct engagement unless authorized for mass-loss scenarios."

The channel stayed quiet.

Ingrid stared at her own reflection in the dark screen.

Her lips curved—just slightly.

"…He didn't even look angry," she added.

"Just focused."

The transmission ended.

Ingrid lowered the device.

Her flames dimmed—but her pulse didn't.

"…Troublesome," she murmured.

Yet her thoughts betrayed her.

'Strong.

Uncompromising.

Unapologetic.'

She scoffed at herself.

"Tch."

But the faint smile didn't fade.

Far below, Teutates clenched his fists as his new form stabilized.

Far away, Ingrid replayed Leo's calm eyes in her memory.

Two enemies.

Two reactions.

Both realizing the same thing.

Leo Fuuma and Shinganji Kurenai was no longer just a problem.

They where a turning point.

To be continued.
