Todd's POV
Levi had no clue that Sallie was renting her own place, and naturally, he'd never heard my name before.
So when I walked in and told him I was Sallie's friend, Levi looked genuinely caught off guard. "Are you someone Sallie met while she was overseas?"
I raised an eyebrow. Smart man. Even without knowing exactly where Sallie had spent the last two years, he could read between the lines of why Levi would assume that.
I shook my head, keeping it honest. "Sallie and I met in Stormhaven. I had an accident, and she saved me."
I could see Levi wasn't in the best shape, and I knew Sallie wouldn't want him stressed, so I kept the story simple and left out most of the details.
Levi had been around long enough to have sharp instincts; I could tell he knew I was holding back plenty.
But he didn't push. Instead, he just smiled and started talking with me.
The conversation moved smoothly—from Sallie to life, then philosophy, and eventually to business.
