Sallie's POV
My back stood frail yet determined before Everly, and I could see tears welling in her eyes.
Elisabeth's situation had been consuming her these past days, wearing her down completely, yet nobody seemed willing to help. She was teetering on the edge of despair.
Seeing me take this firm stand in front of her, the barrier Everly had been maintaining all this time appeared to crack suddenly. I knew she couldn't put all the blame on me for this mess, but Elisabeth's current condition was clearly my fault.
I locked eyes with the principal, my stare burning into him. "What's the real reason behind the school's decision to terminate Elisabeth?"
Everly had spelled it out clearly—Elisabeth's punishment two years back happened because of me, and so did her current hospital stay.
This cursed life of mine shouldn't be ruining innocent people, I thought. My question left the principal fumbling, completely tongue-tied.
