Chapter 20 - Lotus Blossom Forest

It's like the forest is alive, and it's playing tricks on anyone who dares to venture in.

As they ventured into the Lotus Blossom Forest, the group followed Ares' warnings, their senses heightened as the sun dipped below the horizon. The air grew thick with an otherworldly energy, and the lotus blossoms seemed to glow with an ethereal light.

Haphaestus and Crimson flanked the humans, their eyes scanning the surroundings with a mixture of caution and curiosity. Eris and Isabelle walked together, their conversation hushed as they navigated the treacherous path.

The forest was alive, its shadows twisting and writhing like living things. The glowing blossoms cast an hypnotic glow, making it difficult for the group to tear their eyes away. Suddenly, a faint cry echoed through the forest, a soft, plaintive wail that sent shivers down their spines.

"Did you hear that?" one of the humans whispered, their voice trembling.

Ares' expression turned grim. "Stay together, remember? That's just the forest playing tricks on us."

But the cry grew louder, more insistent, and the group couldn't help but glance at each other nervously. Isabelle's eyes darted toward the sound, her face pale.

As they walked, the forest seemed to shift and writhe around them. The lotus blossoms pulsed with an eerie light, drawing them deeper into the heart of the forest. Suddenly, a baby's face appeared in the branches of a nearby tree, its eyes locked on the group with a mournful cry.

Eris's grip on Isabelle's arm tightened. "Don't look," she whispered. "It's just an illusion."

But the baby's face began to change, its features contorting into a grotesque parody of innocence. The group exchanged uneasy glances, their hearts racing with anticipation.

As the group averted their gaze from the baby's face, it suddenly let out a blood-curdling scream. The sound was like nothing they had ever heard before, and it seemed to shake the very foundations of the forest. The baby's face began to stretch and contort, its features melting away like wax in a furnace.

The group stumbled backward in unison as the creature's true form burst forth from the shadows. Its body was a twisted mass of limbs and tendrils, its skin a mass of pulsating, bioluminescent growths. The air was filled with the stench of decay and corruption as the creature lunged at them, its jaws wide open.

"Get back!" Ares shouted, drawing his sword as the creature attacked. The blade sliced through the air, striking true and biting deep into the creature's shoulder. But the creature didn't flinch, its body seeming to absorb the blow.

Haphaestus and Crimson leapt into action, their movements swift and deadly as they attacked the creature from either side. Eris and Isabelle stood back-to-back, their eyes scanning the surroundings for any signs of additional threats. The humans cowered behind them, their faces white with fear.

The creature was a formidable foe, its body seemingly impervious to pain. It swiped at the group with its long, spindly limbs, forcing them to dodge and weave to avoid its attacks. But they were well-trained warriors, and they worked together seamlessly, their movements a testament to their skill and training.

As the battle raged on, the forest seemed to grow darker, the shadows deepening and twisting into malevolent forms that seemed to watch the group's every move. The lotus blossoms pulsed with an otherworldly energy, their glow casting an eerie light over the scene.

The creature's attacks grew more frenzied, its movements becoming more erratic as it realized it was outmatched. But just as it seemed like the group was gaining the upper hand, the creature unleashed a deafening roar and summoned a wave of dark energy.

The group stumbled backward, their vision blurring as the energy washed over them. When their sight cleared, they saw the creature had disappeared into the shadows, its malevolent presence lingering like a specter.

"We have to hasten our movements,I have a feeling there's more where that came from"Ares said to the others.

The group exchanged uneasy glances, their faces set with determination. They knew they had to keep moving forward, no matter the dangers that lay ahead.
