Chapter 1 - Normal?

"Thwack!...Thwack!...Thwack!....THWACK!"

hhn… hhh… mhh-hh… haah… No more, please....please, please, please, please, pleaseeeeee.....pleaseeee.

Trembling, I press my face to my knees. I feel like my heart is beating inside my throat.

mhh… hhh—hh… ahh…

I hug myself tighter, curling into a ball. The sound of metal hitting flesh repeats inside my head. Dark red blood seeps towards me like a snake readying to strike its prey. The fine dust on the hard concrete floor stirs in the strong wind blowing from the thunderstorm outside, mocking my immobility.

A blinding lightning struck, turning the pitch-black night to day.

BOOM!

The flashing light hit my closed eyes, turning my vision red. I hear people talking.

Beep... beep... beep... beep...

My vision remains red. I can feel myself gasping like a fish for breath.

Who is talking?..... What is that beeping sound?.... Why is the lightning not ending?

"-ear me?"

Huh?

"Rysa, -an - h-r me!? "

Someone is holding me. I try to open my eyes, but it's like they're stuck with glue.

Water..... I need water..... my throat is itching. Is it because the thunder struck me that I feel so parched?. My head starts to feel light, and unable to breathe, I drifted into unconsciousness.

Beep... beep... beep... beep.....

Pitch Black.

Beep... beep... beep....

Red.

Beep... beep... beep....

Pitch Black.

Then crack, my eyelids part at last. My eyes started to slowly adjust to the darkness. I stared up at the ceiling above me. I realized I'm in a hospital from the strong smell of disinfectant around me. From the corner of my eye, I see a blue light blinking on my left side -so that's where the beeping sound is coming from- and on the right side, there was a window with blue curtains giving me the view of a quiet, starless night sky.

I try to shift my body a little, but pain lashes through my entire body like fireworks.

Ow... ow... ow... it hurts!.... it hurts like a bitch!. I curse inside my head.

Suddenly, something shifts beside me on the bed. I slowly tilt my head to my right side and squint my eyes to see a guy sleeping on a chair, resting his head on the bed.

He has fluffy hair, but I can't see his face. I tap on his arm, shifting my fingers ever so slightly. The guy doesn't even stir.

What did I expect? Hah!.....who is this guy?. He's snoring even.

Haa... I am tired....Sighing, I fall asleep.

Beep... beep... beep...

Red.

I open my eyes to blinding light. Then a pair of blue eyes stare down at me. I panic, sending the monitor to a state of hysteria. The guy jumps back, yelling.

"D-D-DOCTOR!!!... Doctor!.... Nurse!!.... She's awake!"

I immediately identify him as the guy from last night. Ugh.....fluffy hair is so loud....somebody shut him up!

Like a whirlwind, doctors and nurses rush into my room. Three start checking the different monitors around me, and one checks my pulse while the other flashes his stupid torch into my eyes.

Why are there so many people checking up on me? And why is this idiot checking my pulse when he can see it clearly on the monitor?

"Rysa, can you hear me?" The pulse guy asks.

Rysa??

I try to answer him, but my lips feel like dead weight. W-A-T-E-R...That's it, can somebody give me some water, please!

I try to form words, but only weird breaths come out of me.

"Doctor, is she back to normal?" Fluffy asks.

Normal!?..... Which part of this is normal to you?!

"Hmm.....she has regained consciousness, but since she has injured her head, it may take her more time to recover fully," the pulse guy says, adjusting his specs.

Fluffy hair dabs his eyes and comes closer to me. Then, stroking my hair he leans in as if we were lovers.

"Rysa, welcome back, my love. Sorry to startle you earlier, but I missed you so much....." Fluffy hair takes my hand and presses it to his face.

Huh? Who the hell is Rysa?? -wait... my love?.... who is he???. Hold on, why am I in the hospital??

I look at him, like really looked at him. He looks like a guy in his late 20s or early 30s, maybe?. Fluffy, disheveled hair framing a nerdy, sharp face with thick eyebrows and big blue eyes.

He might pass as handsome if he'd put on some weight and wasn't so gangly. And he's definitely not my type, so nada, doesn't ring a bell. He looks at me with soft, teary eyes and then turns to the doctor.

"She might be tired, so let's let her sleep some more."

The doctor nods his head in acquiescence and instructs the nurse to put me back to sleep.

No, no, no, no, no, no.... wait, wait.... I don't want to sleep more.... water!... give me some water!!!

Beep.... beep.... beep....

Pitch black.
