But it was propped by a malevolent spirit—Nai Fu—sealed by the Huai River Witch within Black Cloud Marsh.
Perhaps it was just utilizing it, or maybe it reached some sort of agreement...
In any case, the old man transformed into an evil ghost and released Nai Fu, taking the opportunity to evolve from an evil ghost to an Evil Spirit.
Then the old man began to "Refining Evil" using cruel means.
Whether it was the not-yet-formed Black Evil...
Or the Evil Spirit currently battling Xiluo and the Flying Sword...
