Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Mew Appears — Chloe’s Realization!

Goh might have had terrible character, but his luck was undeniably good.

While chatting with Chloe and falling behind the group, he stumbled upon a shocking scene in the forest.

A massive Nidoking was locked in battle with a small, cat-like Pokémon.

The forest's overlord, Nidoking, had clearly met its match. The tiny creature effortlessly dodged every one of Nidoking's attacks—and even countered with the same moves.

Goh stood frozen, his mouth hanging open.

He wasn't the only one. The entire viewing audience stared wide-eyed at the screen.

[Goodshow: Professor Oak, is that…?]

[Professor Oak: Mew. There's no mistaking it.]

[Giovanni: Mew… appearing in Pallet Town?!]

[Ash: Mew? When did Mew show up?!]

[Everyone: …...]

After thoroughly toying with Nidoking, Mew floated away lazily.

But Goh—having just witnessed the rarest Pokémon in existence—refused to let it go. He began to chase after Mew at full speed.

To shake off the persistent boy, Mew shapeshifted into countless Pokémon, warping and transforming as it dashed through the woods.

Because of Goh's relentless pursuit, fate took a strange turn—Mew ended up crossing paths with the Kangaskhan family.

Little Kangaskhan, who had been playing hide-and-seek with Pichu, was instantly fascinated by the floating, playful Mew, who teleported around effortlessly.

Meanwhile, Pichu and Mother Kangaskhan noticed that the young one was missing. They immediately began searching along the river, calling out anxiously.

On the cliff above, the curious baby Kangaskhan jumped around excitedly, inviting Mew to join its game.

But Mew soon lost interest and turned to leave.

Panicking, little Kangaskhan reached out to grab it—but instead lost its balance and fell off the cliff.

The loud thud startled Pichu and Mother Kangaskhan below. Looking up, they saw the baby tumbling down toward the rocks.

They were too far away to reach it—powerless to help.

Just as little Kangaskhan was about to crash into the rocky shore, Mew appeared again.

It used Confusion to stop the fall, gently cradling the baby in psychic light before setting it safely in Mother Kangaskhan's arms.

Then, with a satisfied chirp, Mew floated away into the glowing forest.

[Ash: Phew… that was close! Thank Arceus Mew was there!]

Ash's toes curled as he watched—he'd wanted to leap into the video himself to save the little Kangaskhan.

[Misty: It's all because of that reckless Goh! If he hadn't chased Mew, none of this would've happened!]

[Chloe: Goh didn't mean for that to happen.]

Chloe was still too kind. She hadn't yet seen through Goh's true nature.

If she knew the kind of person he really was, she wouldn't have defended him so easily.

[Goh: Yeah, exactly! It wasn't my fault. That Kangaskhan was playing around—I didn't tell it to climb the cliff!]

[Chloe: Goh!]

[Goh: Hmph.]

Chloe sighed quietly. Dealing with such an emotionally clueless "friend" was starting to wear her down.

The truth was painful—Chloe thought of Goh as a close friend, but to Goh, she was just an acquaintance.

Her kindness was wasted on someone who didn't care.

If she were wise, she'd walk away from this one-sided "friendship" sooner rather than later.

The black-bordered screen slowly brightened again, showing a new sequence of memories.

The early part of the story remained unchanged—Pichu had still been adopted by the gentle Kangaskhan family.

But after Ash joined the summer camp, the entire story took a dramatic turn.

During the camp, Ash rarely spoke unless addressed directly by Professor Oak or another child. Yet his humble demeanor and vast knowledge of Pokémon quickly earned him everyone's admiration.

By contrast, Goh couldn't help showing off—interrupting conversations, flaunting what little he knew, and constantly trying to outshine others.

The children grew increasingly annoyed, and even Chloe, who had always defended him, began to lose patience.

"Goh, you should learn from Ash. That's how you make friends." Chloe finally couldn't hold back.

"Hmph! Why should I learn from that latecomer? I'm better than him! Everything he knows—I know too! He should be learning from me!" Goh still had that arrogant demeanor.

"You're hopeless!" Furious and disappointed, Chloe turned away from Goh and rejoined the others.

Goh scoffed disdainfully, "Hmph. I'm fine on my own. I don't need friends anyway. Besides… you were never my friend to begin with."

Chloe in the video—walking away—didn't hear that.

But the Chloe in the real world did. She heard every word.

"So… I was never your friend?"

A bitter smile touched her lips as memories flooded back—how she'd always defended Goh since childhood, only to realize she'd been nothing more than a fool.

It wouldn't happen again.

After all… they were never friends to begin with.
