Chapter 201 - Chapter 201 — Peggy’s Death

Chapter 201 — Peggy's Death

At that critical moment, Monica stepped forward and pressed down on the pillow together with Frank.

Peggy still had strength.

But against the two of them—

Ten minutes later, just like in the original course of events, Peggy Gallagher died of suffocation.

As her struggles slowly faded, the two finally loosened their grip.

Frank lifted the pillow—

And saw Peggy's twisted, suffocated expression.

His legs gave out instantly.

Thud.

He collapsed onto the floor, scrambling backward in panic until his back hit the wall.

His face was a mess of emotions.

Fear.

Relief.

Terror.

Joy.

And… just a trace of sadness.

"Oh my God… oh my God… I did it! I actually did it! Monica—I did it!"

Frank broke down laughing through tears, like a child who had just done something unbelievable.

"Yes, Frank! We did it! We're finally free of that old witch!"

Monica rushed over and threw her arms around him.

Expecting these two to react like normal people to Peggy's death—

Was asking too much.

Caught up in the moment, the two of them spiraled straight into reckless indulgence—

Right there, beside Peggy's body.

The night passed just like that.

—

Morning.

In the living room, Fiona watched as Peggy's body was carried away.

Her face was blank.

She and Peggy had never shared any real bond.

Frank and Monica were nowhere to be seen.

Earlier, she had gone into the room—

And found Peggy's lifeless body.

So she called the police.

That was it.

Now—

"Fiona, was anyone else in the house last night besides your family?"

Tony asked while taking notes.

"No. Just us."

Fiona shook her head, calm and composed.

"Alright… I understand. And… I'm sorry for your loss."

Tony finished writing, clearly wanting to say more—but not knowing how.

Just then—

The front door opened.

William walked in, carrying a few cups of coffee.

"Wow… what's going on this early? Quite the crowd."

He genuinely hadn't expected Frank to actually go through with it.

"Hey. Morning, William."

Tony greeted him.

To be fair, before getting tangled up with Fiona, Tony had been a pretty straight-laced guy.

Maybe not perfect—but not bad either.

"Morning. What happened here?"

William set the coffee down on the kitchen table, looking around with mild curiosity.

After all, watching the chaos of the Gallagher household was something William genuinely enjoyed.

"Peggy—Fiona's grandmother—died last night. We're still determining whether it was homicide or natural causes."

Since Tony knew about William and Fiona being together, he didn't bother hiding anything.

"Peggy's dead?"

That actually caught William off guard.

His first instinct—

She was murdered.

After all, he had already removed her pancreatic cancer. There was no way she died from illness.

Which meant someone had killed her.

As for who…

With his earlier interference, Karen Jackson and Lip never got involved. Sheila Jackson and Frank never hooked up either.

So Sheila was out.

That left…

William quickly narrowed it down to Frank.

And that was exactly what surprised him the most.

Frank… actually had the guts to kill Peggy?

Unbelievable.

If it were the other way around—Peggy killing Frank—William wouldn't have been surprised at all.

But Frank killing Peggy?

That didn't fit.

Then suddenly, it clicked.

This wasn't the original timeline.

Monica was here.

Which meant—

Frank and Monica together.

Yeah… that made a lot more sense.

William rubbed his chin thoughtfully. The probability was high.

While he was still piecing it together, Peggy's body was carried out.

No one seemed particularly shaken.

In the South Side, death wasn't unusual.

If anything, it was routine.

Accidents. Overdoses. Shootings.

Too many to count.

People had long since grown numb.

Soon, the house was left with Fiona, William, and the younger kids.

"Why are you all still standing around? Get moving. Lip, take Ian to the restaurant. Carl, Debbie—you two stay home and watch Liam."

Fiona immediately slipped back into command mode.

"So what about you?" Lip asked, a cigarette hanging from his mouth.

"I've got something to do."

Her tone was distant.

Cold.

That alone said everything.

The old Fiona wouldn't have hidden things from Lip.

But after everything that had happened, the cracks between her and her siblings were growing wider.

And honestly—

William liked that.

A united Gallagher family would be far less entertaining.

"Whatever."

Lip shrugged, clearly annoyed, and left with Ian.

Ian actually tried to grab a coffee on the way out—he had no beef with William, and free was free.

But Lip dragged him away.

He wasn't touching anything that came from William.

Pride mattered.

Once they were gone, Fiona turned to William.

"Let's go. Give me a ride."

She picked up one of the coffees from the table.

William didn't bother taking the rest—just grabbed his own and followed her out, leaving behind two confused kids and a baby in 2119.

—

Inside the AMG, William took a sip of coffee and set it in the holder.

"Where to?"

He glanced sideways at Fiona.

"The Alibi Room."

She stared straight ahead.

No emotion.

No spark.

Like something inside her had been hollowed out.

That made William pause.

He could understand that look on someone like Estefania.

But Fiona?

He hadn't even spent the night with her yesterday.

Then again…

Everything piling up lately would wear anyone down.

Mental exhaustion hit harder than physical fatigue.

With that thought, he didn't press further.

The engine roared to life.

They pulled out.

—

At the Alibi.

It was still early.

The bar hadn't opened yet.

Kevin Ball was busy setting up chairs, getting ready for the day.

But at the counter—

Two people were already sitting there.
