"Naruto: Ice God"Chapter 167: Feng Bai Defeated by a Fish Bone

Shimura Residence.

Danzō sat at the dining table, staring at the now-cold dishes before him, then at the empty chair across from him. His expression gradually turned cold and menacing.

As if responding to Danzō's mood, Ding, who stood behind him, suddenly shivered, feeling as though an ice block was continuously radiating frigid air around him.

Click.

As the floorboards in Danzō's room were lifted, Shisui, exhausted from a full day's work, emerged holding a broken light bulb. Without bothering to wipe the sweat from his brow, he hurried to leave the Shimura residence.

"Shisui."

Danzō suddenly called out, stopping him.

"Lord Danzō."

Called to a halt by Danzō, Shisui obediently remained in place.

Glancing at this youth who had been diligently serving as Root's light bulb repairman, Danzō nodded slightly, signaling him to approach.

Shisui complied, coming to the dining table. Ding, behind Danzō, kept his eyes fixed on Shisui, afraid he might make any move harmful to Danzō.

Both E and B had died at the hands of the treacherous Uchiha—they had to maintain necessary vigilance.

"Sit down and eat."

Danzō's next words caught everyone present off guard.

Ignoring the stunned Ding and Shisui, Danzō picked up his rice bowl and began eating.

"Yes, Lord Danzō."

Not daring to delay, Shisui removed his equipment and set it aside, washed his hands clean, then respectfully sat at Danzō's right hand.

"You eat too."

Having prepared three portions, Danzō, after putting a piece of cold roasted meat in his mouth, ordered Ding to join them at the table.

The three of them ate dinner in silence.

Meanwhile, at the Namikaze house—

Minato, having finished his mission debriefing, eagerly pushed open the door only to see several unfamiliar faces in his home.

Feng Bai, who was helping Kushina in the kitchen, poked his head out to briefly introduce the three little ones to Minato before diving back into the bustling dinner preparations.

Seeing his home so lively, Minato naturally couldn't pour out his longing to Kushina, so he simply smiled and shook his head, joining Kakashi and Rin in watching the three children.

"Rin, how's the work at Konoha Hospital?"

Patting Itachi's small head, Minato turned his gaze to Rin sitting nearby. "I heard your director is quite a stern person."

"The director is strict, but his medical skills are exceptional. Working under him, I've learned quite a lot." Rin answered obediently from the side.

Seeing Minato join the child-minding duties, Kakashi finally relaxed beneath his mask and hurriedly found an excuse to escape.

Really, these three brats were harder to handle than the last—either staring at him with big dark eyes or asking "What is the meaning of life?"—completely unlike children their age.

Kakashi slipped into Minato's study and gently closed the door. After confirming no one was around, he eagerly pulled out volume four of The Tale of the Snow Woman from his pocket.

The yellowed pages showed Kakashi had read this book multiple times, but each reading brought him new insights.

The Snow Woman...

Just from the book's brief descriptions, Kakashi could envision the Snow Woman's exquisite features.

Though why did the Snow Woman in his imagination look somewhat familiar?

Kakashi pondered for a long time but couldn't find the answer.

"Hey everyone, dinner's ready! Huh, where did Kakashi go?"

Feng Bai's voice rang out.

"I think he went to the study," Rin helpfully indicated Kakashi's location.

Hearing footsteps approaching, Kakashi was still contemplating the Snow Woman's appearance. Only when Feng Bai's hand touched the doorknob did Kakashi belatedly try to hide the book in his hands.

"Kakashi, what are you doing in here?"

Pushing open the door, Feng Bai—wearing a blue apron—found Kakashi standing awkwardly by the desk, immediately piquing his curiosity.

"Nothing much, just curious about what Captain Minato usually reads."

Having composed himself, Kakashi tried to control his tone.

"Really?"

Tilting his head to study Kakashi, Feng Bai's face was written with disbelief.

He walked over to Kakashi and circled around him. Finding nothing truly suspicious, Feng Bai finally abandoned his investigation and called Kakashi to the dining room for dinner.

While Feng Bai wasn't looking, Kakashi glanced at the bookshelf behind him, thinking of some excuse to delay, but his right hand was already caught by Feng Bai, who forcibly dragged him to the dining room.

No choice now.

He'd have to retrieve it after dinner.

Casting a despairing look at the book he'd stuffed into Minato's bookshelf, Kakashi desperately reminded himself not to forget to collect it.

"Let's treat tonight as Feng Bai's welcome-back party! Celebrating Feng Bai's return home after a year away!"

Seeing everyone seated, Kushina raised her glass and invited everyone to toast.

Of course, it contained juice.

"Cheers!"

Everyone present, including the little ones, showed genuine smiles as they raised their glasses to clink with Feng Bai.

After draining the juice in one gulp, Kushina began promoting her cooking: "Try this—my fish stew, and this braised meat. My cooking isn't inferior to Feng Bai's, you know!"

"Hmph, Kushina-nee, while I respect you greatly, when it comes to cooking, I'm still quite confident. Right, Yamato?"

Picking up his chopsticks to serve Yamato a piece of braised pork, Feng Bai refused to back down.

"Oh? Is that so, Feng Bai? I've been improving too, you know. Isn't that right, Minato?" Kushina said while picking up a piece of fish and putting it in her mouth. Before she'd chewed twice, her expression turned uncomfortable.

"What's wrong, Kushina?"

Minato, whose attention was entirely focused on Kushina, was the first to notice her distress and immediately asked with concern.

Kushina waved her hand, signaling him not to worry, and forced herself to swallow the fish: "It's been happening frequently lately, but it should be nothing serious. I was planning to ask Mikoto to go to the hospital with me tomorrow."

Kakashi's hand holding his chopsticks suddenly trembled.

Having spent all day reading Jiraiya's novels, he quickly connected Kushina's words to a certain possibility.

No way, Captain Minato—how long have you two been married?!

"Yeah, you should definitely get that checked out—pfft!"

Only then did Feng Bai realize what was happening. Caught off guard, he choked on a fish bone and sprayed all the rice in his mouth onto Kakashi's face across from him.

"Ka—ka—ka!" Clutching his throat and unable to speak, Feng Bai was so panicked that tears nearly flowed.

Seeing this scene, Kakashi, despite having a face full of food debris, couldn't be bothered with anger and rushed to Feng Bai's side.

Minato, Kushina, and the others also sprang into action, preparing to help Feng Bai escape his predicament.

After a frantic struggle, Rin finally extracted the fish bone from Feng Bai's throat, leaving him sprawled weakly on the nearby sofa.

Damn it—he'd nearly become the first jōnin in the Hokage world to be killed by a fish bone!

Burying his face in the sofa cushions, Feng Bai just wanted to find a crack in the ground to crawl into.
