Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: Expelliarmus Lightning Chain

Hearing Harry's response, Dumbledore relaxed and smiled.

"It's Mind Reading, the incantation is Legilimens."

He put the cockroach candy back into the jar.

"However, you needn't worry, I wouldn't use this spell on young wizards." Dumbledore showed a wise smile befitting his age, "I've lived long enough, Harry. For a man over a hundred years old, the thoughts of an eleven-year-old are written all over their face."

"That is true." Harry smiled and put the cup back on the table.

But he still lowered his head.

Seeing Harry was still reserved, Dumbledore said, "Well, it's getting late, I won't keep you chatting any longer—go back and get some sleep, Harry, and forget today's unpleasantness."

"Alright, Headmaster," Harry replied politely.

Dumbledore blinked, the crescent-shaped glasses glinting with wisdom.

"I prefer being called Professor rather than Headmaster."

"Alright, Professor." Harry complied.

After Harry left, Dumbledore sat in his chair, lost in thought for a while.

The recent Harry reminded him of an old acquaintance.

It was a former Hufflepuff College student, the magical creatures scholar Newt Scamander.

He never suspected Harry was the one from a hundred years ago, after all, time travel happens, but spanning a hundred years is unheard of.

Moreover, the current Harry is not only just an eleven-year-old freshman, but also a child he witnessed being born, and personally sent to the Dursley family.

And the Harry Potter from a century ago who perished with Lanlock was a sixth-year student.

Unless Dumbledore is truly out of his mind, such an irrelevant suspicion wouldn't arise.

"The magic of love is truly great, isn't it?" Dumbledore seemed to be talking to himself, or perhaps speaking to Fox.

Fox tilted its bird head, chirping twice.

Early the next morning, after breakfast, Harry dragged Ron and Hermione to the eighth floor of the castle.

It was Sunday, with no classes scheduled; Ron was planning to find someone to play wizard chess with.

He pointed at the painting of the "Giant Troll Beating Foolish Banaba" and said, "Look, this painting is really interesting."

"'Giant Troll Beating Silly Banaba', " Hermione educated Ron on the background of the painting.

"How do you know everything?" Ron said, a bit frustrated, "I feel like you're more like a kid from a wizard family..."

"Reading more books is good for you." Hermione extended a finger and tapped her temple.

While they were talking, Harry had already set up the Room of Requirement template.

A large door suddenly appeared on the wall opposite the painting, startling Ron and Hermione.

"This is where we'll train for duels," Harry introduced to his two friends, "In the future, this will be our secret base—"

"Is it really a secret base?" Ron was obviously more interested in the term 'secret base,' "Wow, I bet Fred and George have no idea about this place!"

"Why do you say that?" Hermione asked, confused.

"If those two knew, then I would know too," Ron shrugged and said.

The three of them pushed open the door and were greeted by a professional magic spell training ground.

All around the room were mirror-like walls, thick mats were casually piled in the corners; at the far end of the room, there was even a row of mannequins holding magic wands.

"Cool!" Ron said, drawing his wand in admiration, "It's such a pity it's a secret, otherwise, Fred and George would be green with envy!"

"So which spell should we practice?" Hermione asked.

"Let's learn something Professor Quirrell won't teach us," Harry said succinctly, "For instance, the most basic dueling spell—the Disarming Spell."

He walked to the center of the field and summoned a mannequin holding a magic wand.

"Look, like this... Expelliarmus!"

A red beam shot out from the tip of Harry's wand, hitting the mannequin's hand, the mannequin's wand spun in the air and was caught by Harry.

"This is the simple Disarming Spell." Harry put the wand back into the mannequin's hand.

"Is that the Disarming Spell?" Ron scratched his head and asked, "Why doesn't it feel very cool? Not as flashy as I imagined?"

"Truly powerful spells are all simple," Harry explained, "The use of spells is incredibly versatile... just like the Floating Spell you've used before."

Harry said as he lightly lifted a nearby chair with his wand, "Wingardium Leviosa—"

"Like this, see?"

With a flick of his wand, the chair suddenly jerked upwards.

"And what if I do this?"

Harry gently put down the chair, again using the Disarming Spell to knock the wand out of the mannequin's hand, then controlled it with the Floating Spell to accelerate and stab it into the mannequin's eye.

"That's too brutal..." Hermione frowned and said.

"Brutal?" Harry mused, thinking of how children in peaceful times were...

Back in his school days, students feared their spells weren't brutal enough to effectively fight dark wizards.

"Dark wizards won't abide by civility, Hermione," Harry said, "You must realize, dark wizards are extremely dangerous, take those Death Eaters who tormented Neville's parents as an example. When you're fighting them, do you truly care about what's civilized or brutal? No, at that moment, you'll just worry whether your spell is powerful enough."

"That's right, Hermione." Ron said, "Dark wizards are the most cunning and ruthless..."

"Sorry, Harry." Hermione nodded, agreeing with Harry's reasoning.

"Like this." Harry patted Ron on the shoulder, slowly demonstrating to them, "Swing the wand like this—a horizontal and a vertical... Expelliarmus!"

"Expelliarmus!" Ron waved his wand, aiming at the mannequin in the center of the field.

The atmosphere became a bit awkward, as nothing happened.

Not only Ron, but Hermione also had the same experience.

Patiently, Harry corrected them, and after more than half an hour, Hermione was the first to learn Expelliarmus.

Another moment later, the determined Ron also mastered the spell.

While Hermione and Ron practiced the Disarming Spell, Harry was deep in thought.

Undoubtedly, back then, his best spell was this simple Disarming Spell.

Villatia had even suggested that he thoroughly develop this spell. According to her idea, other magic could be used to mark the target, and then the Disarming Spell could be chained through this mark.

In layman's terms, this means hitting multiple enemies simultaneously with one Disarming Spell.

Theoretically, when opponents are relatively close, one Disarming Spell can disarm several people at once; but the path Villatia pointed out to him was achieving a long or extremely long-range simultaneous disarming of multiple enemies.
