Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Loki the Idiot Melee Mage

"Waaah, my Mjolnir, waaah, this is so good to eat..."

Inside the containment room, Thor sobbed like a centuries-old baby while gulping down hamburgers. Dozens of crumpled burger wrappers lay scattered at his feet, forming a small mountain.

Du Mu's eyebrow raised. Is this the God of Thunder or the God of Gluttony? He can really put it away.

Du Mu offered comfort: "It's alright, not being able to lift it temporarily is normal. You know, for men, it's easy to get like this as they age. And you're a few thousand years old."

"You don't understand!" Thor lifted his head in sorrowful indignation, sauce smeared around his mouth. "Not being able to lift Mjolnir means it no longer acknowledges me as its master! I've lost the right to wield it!"

Judging by his heartbroken expression, one might think his girlfriend had run off with another man.

Du Mu analyzed: "Actually, you don't need to be so depressed. Maybe you just temporarily haven't met the conditions to lift the hammer. Maybe this is a test from your father."

Du Mu didn't believe Thor's old man, Odin, the King of the Gods, would truly abandon Thor. After all, he'd nurtured this account for thousands of years; if it were him, he definitely wouldn't just scrap it.

"Really?" Thor wiped the sauce from his mouth with his hand, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

Du Mu nodded: "Even though you're not the sharpest tool in the shed, you are still your father's son. And given his age, he probably can't create a new account, so who else would he pass his throne to if not you?"

Thor: "..." Why does it feel like I just got insulted?

"Hmph!"

A cold snort suddenly sounded. Du Mu followed the noise and saw a figure in a green coat appear in the containment room, seemingly out of nowhere. Oddly, the agents outside the room showed no reaction, as if they couldn't see the person at all.

Du Mu immediately checked the mysterious person's information.

[NPC: Loki Odinson (Laufeyson)]

[Codename: God of Mischief]

[Affection: 0]

[Evaluation: God of Lies, God of Acting, Nine Realms' foremost sorcerer, Vile Kidney Stabber]

[Status: Under Illusionary Cloaking]

Well, fine. Another deity from Norse mythology. Du Mu was getting used to it.

Based on Loki's status, the guy must have used some kind of magic to be invisible, which explained why the other agents hadn't noticed him. However, Du Mu possessed the Fiery Eyes of Truth, which could see through all illusions, rendering Loki's magic completely ineffective on him.

Loki noticed Du Mu's gaze but remained unperturbed. He was extremely confident in his illusion magic. Aside from his parents, almost no one could see through his illusion, let alone some mere mortal in a backwater place like Earth. This human must have just happened to look his way.

Loki smirked with a self-assured gaze directed at Du Mu. Who knew Du Mu would simply glare back and ask: "What are you looking at?"

Loki: "..."

Loki was silent for a moment. He decided to drop the illusion and reveal his form, stating arrogantly, "Mortal, you are quite remarkable to have sensed my presence."

Thor, still deep in his burger-fueled sorrow, suddenly saw Loki appear. His face instantly lit up with surprise, and he jumped up, grabbing Loki's arm with his greasy hands.

"Loki! Is that really you, my brother!"

Loki watched the grease and sauce instantly smear onto his clothes, and his face couldn't help but twitch. But he endured it, saying in a low voice, "I had to come."

As he spoke, Loki's eyes showed one part sorrow, two parts helplessness, three parts struggle, and four parts pain, like a perfect pie chart of emotion. It was hard to imagine one person's gaze conveying so many feelings.

Seeing Loki's expression, Thor's heart sank. He hurriedly swallowed the burger in his mouth: "What happened? Did those Frost Giants from Jotunheim attack?"

"Yes. Asgard and Jotunheim are now at war." Loki nodded gravely, a pained expression appearing on his face, his emotions building to a crescendo: "Father is old. The threat of renewed war, coupled with the agony of your banishment, was too much for him to bear. He finally succumbed and has left us."

"What!?"

Thor felt as if he'd been struck by lightning, his eyes widening in disbelief. His father... was dead!

Seeing Thor's shattered look, Loki secretly rejoiced. Outwardly, his grief deepened. He was just about to add fuel to the fire to completely extinguish any thought Thor had of returning when a hand clapped him on the shoulder, interrupting his carefully cultivated mood.

"Hey there, little brother, did you forget about me?"

Du Mu looked displeased. Are you two telling stories and putting on a melodrama as if I'm just a non-existent surveillance camera?

Loki's meticulously crafted atmosphere was shattered, and a surge of anger flared up. His eyes turned icy as he glared at Du Mu.

"Insolent mortal! How dare you interrupt the dialogue of a god!"

Du Mu chuckled: "Even if your name is Loki, you don't need to invent a story about a fragile old father, do you?"

Loki didn't understand Du Mu's words but knew the human was exposing his lie. He sneered, reaching out to grip Du Mu's arm, intending to break it and teach this mortal a lesson.

But when he applied force, he couldn't move the arm at all!

"Hmm?" A flash of surprise appeared in Loki's eyes. As an Asgardian, a descendant of the Frost Giants, his physique far surpassed that of a peak human. Yet, he couldn't move this human's arm?

Loki quickly regained his composure and sneered: "No wonder you could see through my illusion. You are indeed no ordinary mortal. Unfortunately, you are facing a mage."

With that, two daggers appeared out of thin air in Loki's hands, and he viciously stabbed at Du Mu's abdomen.

Du Mu: "..." What a truly authentic mage fighting style!

"Muay Thai Warning!"

Without another word, Du Mu drove his elbow straight into Loki's face!

After several power-ups, Du Mu's strength had increased further. Loki didn't even see the movement before he was elbowed off his feet. His two daggers clattered to the floor, and he slammed heavily into the containment room wall, creating a small dent and sending cracks spreading out like a spiderweb.

Loki's physique wasn't bad, however. He took Du Mu's elbow head-on and didn't appear to have suffered much superficial damage to his face.

Loki struggled to stand up, raging: "Enough! You despicable mortal! I am the great God—"

Before he could finish, he saw Du Mu lunging forward, smashing a knee viciously into his face! While Loki was stunned and fell to the floor, Du Mu grabbed his right leg, applied sudden force, lifted his entire body, and began viciously slamming him into the ground!

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang—!

The sounds of terrifying impacts echoed repeatedly, and craters formed in the containment room floor.

Thor initially wanted to intervene, but seeing Du Mu's brutality, he retreated. It's fine. My little brother has always been tough. He'll get over it.

After dozens of slams, Loki's body finally went limp. Only then did Du Mu release him and toss him onto the floor. He looked down at the unconscious Loki and said disdainfully, "And this is supposed to be a god?"

Thor: "..." Why does that sound so familiar?
