Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: And He Calls Himself the God of Thunder?

Du Mu paid no mind to Nick Fury's words.

It was like in a game—no matter how urgently an NPC warned that the world was facing destruction, players would still leisurely mine, collect treasure chests everywhere, and generally ignore the threat.

Seeing Du Mu's relaxed attitude, Nick Fury rubbed his temples in exasperation.

"In any case, keep a low profile for a while. Agent Coulson happens to be on a mission in New Mexico and needs backup. I was going to send Hawkeye, who is on leave, but now I'm sending you instead."

[NPC Nick Fury has issued a new quest to you]

[Quest: Support Coulson]

[Goal: Travel to New Mexico, rendezvous with Coulson, and assist him with his mission]

[Reward: Experience +1000, S.H.I.E.L.D. Reputation +20, Item *2]

"Understood, sir."

Upon receiving the mission, Du Mu immediately drove to the desert region of New Mexico that same day.

He quickly found the small temporary S.H.I.E.L.D. base and met the highest-ranking officer there, Coulson.

"Village Chief, long time no see. Why is your hairline retreating again?"

Coulson: "..."

As Nick Fury's right-hand man and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s undisputed workhorse, he barely had any time off. He was either on a mission or on his way to one, rarely even seeing his cellist girlfriend.

The long hours on the road, combined with the unavoidable pressures of being a middle-aged man, had made his hair increasingly sparse.

Coulson just didn't get it.

Du Mu was even more diligent than him in grinding out missions, so how come this guy wasn't losing any hair?

Coulson pretended not to hear Du Mu's last remark and went straight to the point: "A while ago, we detected an Einstein–Rosen bridge—a wormhole phenomenon—above this area, and an alien object fell out of it."

Du Mu asked curiously, "What kind of alien object?"

"A hammer!"

Du Mu: "..."

The conversation was going so well, why the sudden insult?

Seeing Du Mu's expression, Coulson clarified, "I mean the alien object is a hammer. Forget it, just come with me."

With that, Coulson led Du Mu to the innermost part of the small base.

Just as Coulson said, Du Mu saw a hammer: a square, silver hammer that looked unremarkable.

Coulson's expression was serious: "Based on our tests, so far, no one has been able to lift it. Even heavy-duty cranes can't shift the hammer by even half a millimeter."

"But the strange thing is, this doesn't seem to be due to the hammer's weight. We even tried digging out the soil beneath it, leaving only a tiny bit, and it still manages to support the hammer."

"That amazing?"

Du Mu immediately became interested. He walked up to the hammer and grabbed its short handle.

Just as he was about to exert force, the system's voice suddenly rang out.

[You do not meet the usage requirements for this equipment]

[Usage Requirement: Justice Points ≥ 1000]

"Justice Points?"

Du Mu was a little surprised.

It was the first time he had seen a piece of equipment with usage requirements, and one that specifically required the recently unlocked Justice Points.

Du Mu opened his personal attribute panel and found that his Justice Points had grown to 136.

According to the system records, these points were earned during his missions when he unintentionally saved many lives, and defeating super villains like the Abomination also granted a large amount of Justice Points.

"Looks like I really have potential as a superhero."

Du Mu thought smugly.

As for the Crime Points, which were nearing two hundred, he chose to ignore them selectively.

"What is it? Did you find something?"

Seeing Du Mu grip the hammer handle and remain silent for a long time, Coulson couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.

He knew Du Mu wasn't simple, and perhaps he could discover some clue.

Du Mu immediately let go of the hammer's short handle and nodded: "Lifting this hammer is conditional. It probably requires someone who is righteous, brave, honest, and responsible. So it's perfectly normal that you guys can't lift it."

Coulson: "..."

Why does it feel like you're insulting us indirectly?

Next, Coulson assigned Du Mu the job of guarding the hammer until all their related testing work was complete.

The job was quite easy.

Du Mu managed to get a folding lounge chair from somewhere and placed it not far from the hammer.

He lay down comfortably, drinking an unknown beverage and reading a comic book. His leisurely demeanor made him look like he was on vacation.

This sight made the surrounding S.H.I.E.L.D. agents on patrol grit their teeth.

They were already annoyed with being on duty!

Seeing this scene, their fists practically clenched!

Night fell.

A heavy rain suddenly began.

Just as Du Mu was engrossed in his comic book, he heard Coulson's voice over the communicator.

"Du Mu, someone has broken into the base. It looks like they're heading in your direction."

"Got it."

Du Mu reluctantly got up from the lounge chair.

He was curious to see which idiot was bold enough to trespass on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s turf.

After a burst of intense fighting and running noises, Du Mu quickly saw the idiot.

"Chris Hemsworth?"

Du Mu's eyes widened involuntarily.

The intruder was a tall, muscular, long-haired blonde man. His wet long hair was plastered to his face, and his appearance was strikingly similar to a certain actor in Du Mu's memory.

Hearing Du Mu's words, the muscular man loudly refuted: "I am Thor, the great God of Thunder, son of Odin!"

Du Mu chuckled upon hearing this: "You're the God of Thunder? Then I'm the First Emperor of Qin."

"Bold! A mere mortal dares to blaspheme a god!"

Thor was furious.

He roared and immediately charged, swinging a punch at Du Mu.

It had to be said, his speed was indeed astonishing, and his strength far surpassed that of an ordinary person, which was why he was able to break through the perimeter agents' defenses and get this far.

However, in Du Mu's eyes, this level of attack was just so-so.

He didn't even bother to use a skill; he simply raised a hand and steadily caught Thor's fist.

"How is this possible?"

Shock was written all over Thor's face.

Even without his divine powers, his body was by no means something a mortal body could contend with.

Yet, this person in front of him could block his punch so easily!

Thor gritted his teeth and strained, but he still couldn't break free from Du Mu's large hand.

Du Mu looked at Thor's flushed face and asked with interest, "You say you're the God of Thunder, so I guess you must be very resistant to electricity?"

"What do you m-m-m-m-mean—"

Before Thor could finish his sentence, he felt a wild current instantly sweep through his entire body, causing him to twitch violently and uncontrollably.

A few seconds later, his eyes rolled back, and he fell straight to the ground, slight wisps of white smoke rising from his body.

Du Mu turned off the Professor Yang's Ring on his finger.

He looked at the unmoving Thor and said with disgust: "And he calls himself the God of Thunder?"
