Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

As the first rays of sunlight appeared on the horizon, Kars, who was fast asleep, opened his eyes. He quietly looked at his two little aunts, who were still soundly sleeping in his embrace. He gently slipped out of bed and walked to the window.

Kars removed his top, grabbed the curtains, and slowly pulled them open, intending to let the first sunlight fall upon him. He closed his eyes, preparing to enjoy the beautiful moment.

As the sun climbed higher, the light hitting Kars grew brighter, and the sensation of heat quickly spread over his body, causing his skin to turn red. This feeling was generally very uncomfortable for a vampire, but Kars had grown used to it.

However, after a short time, the bright sunlight began to dim. Kars frowned, unsatisfied.

"Where did my sunlight go?"

Kars opened his eyes and looked outside. He saw a thick blanket of white fog in the distance. The dense fog was obscuring the sun, preventing the kind of light he craved from reaching him.

This was exactly the result Kars didn't want to see.

"Why is it foggy? This is bad luck."

Kars felt unlucky, but he didn't despair. There was nothing he could do to change the weather.

He put his shirt back on, glanced at Remilia and Flandre still sleeping in bed, and wondered what to do next. Normally, he would be enjoying the sun now, but without it, he was at a loss.

After a moment's thought, he sat on the edge of the bed, observing the sleeping faces of Remilia and Flandre. They looked even cuter and more peaceful than they did in their daily lives.

I wonder what kind of people I'll meet in Gensokyo.

Kars reached out a finger and gently stroked Remilia's soft, smooth cheek. This action caused a faint moan from the sleeping Remilia, and she instinctively moved her hand to swat away the hand touching her face.

After playing gently for a bit, Kars stopped, worried he might wake his aunt. He didn't want to risk incurring her anger and another lecture.

So, Kars decided to leave the room and head to the Great Library, hoping to find the magic book he wanted.

Upon entering the Great Library, where virtually no sunlight reached, Kars sighed softly. He couldn't understand why Patchouli enjoyed staying in such a place and never wanted to leave.

But finding the book I want in here without knowing the system is virtually impossible.

The shelves were filled with books everywhere. Finding the one he wanted would be incredibly difficult. Kars searched for a while and was about to give up.

As he walked further, he heard a faint scratching sound of writing amidst the quiet. Kars followed the sound to a corner where many books were stacked. In the center of the stack, Patchouli was sitting, writing something on paper with a pen.

Hearing footsteps, Patchouli looked up. Seeing Kars, she seemed surprised. "Kars, why are you here? Weren't you going to sunbathe?"

"I was, but after only a short time, the fog rolled in and blocked the sun. So, I came here to see if I could find a magic book related to the Sun attribute. But Patchouli, you haven't been resting properly, have you? Your health is already poor—you should be more careful."

"I'll go rest after I finish this last bit. Cough, cough!"

No sooner had she said this than Patchouli started coughing. Kars immediately rushed to her side.

"See? Not resting and constantly staying in this environment is bad for your health. I think you should come with me and sunbathe more often. Being outside would surely be much better than staying here." After helping Patchouli calm down, Kars suggested they go outside.

"If you had a body like mine, you wouldn't need to worry about illnesses."

"Forget it. Having a body like yours is impossible." Lying in Kars's arms, Patchouli glanced at his muscular physique. She got tired just from light exercise; trying to build a body like his would surely kill her.

"Then at least go for a walk more often." Kars didn't push, only suggesting that moving around and getting some sun was better than staying confined to this space every day.

"How about this: I'll come get you tomorrow morning, and we'll go for a walk and get some sun? The morning sun is truly beautiful."

"I don't think that will work. The Scarlet Devil Mansion is near the Misty Lake, and during the daytime, there's often thick fog from the lake. It's hard to get sun in the morning."

When Patchouli explained the situation, Kars's body trembled slightly.

"Does… does that mean it's foggy every day? This… this is absolutely terrible!" Kars had thought the fog was an occasional occurrence, but now he was told it was a daily situation. His expression instantly turned pale and anxious.

"Why would my little auntie choose this location?!"

"It's obvious, isn't it? She doesn't like the sun, so she naturally chose a place like the Misty Lake to live. However, after six in the morning, the sun should reach the highest point of the mansion—the clock tower roof."

Hearing Patchouli's comment, Kars's face brightened slightly. At least the situation wasn't completely hopeless.

"Alright, I need to rest for a bit."

Feeling tired and unwilling to move, Patchouli simply decided to lie down in Kars's arms to rest. As she snuggled onto his chest, she felt the warmth of his embrace—oddly hot for a vampire—and it was incredibly comfortable.

"When you're rested, you have to teach me some Sun-attribute magic."

"Mmm…" Patchouli responded faintly. Settling into the warm embrace, she looked satisfied and comfortable.

"Kars's body is very comfortable. I like it a lot."

Patchouli quickly fell asleep in his arms.
