Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Realizing that her glare had absolutely no effect, Remilia reluctantly gave up. It had been so effective before; how could it be useless so quickly?

She reminisced about the time she spent with Kars, during which she truly felt like a being of immense authority. Now that feeling was gone. She hadn't enjoyed it nearly enough! Remilia had imagined she could enjoy that dynamic for hundreds of years, perhaps even longer.

But Kars's hormone-fueled growth rate had prematurely ended her favorite source of amusement.

"Hmph. Anyway, I understand your situation. But I haven't been here long myself. Finding you a date might need to be put on hold for a while. However, if my grand plan succeeds, your problem will practically solve itself." Once she conquered Gensokyo, finding a wife for her nephew would be simple.

"I don't mind, Auntie. My mother told me to follow your arrangements here, so you decide what's best." Kars was fine with this; being unfamiliar with the place, listening to his elder was the safe bet.

"But what is this 'grand plan' you mentioned, Auntie?"

At this question, Remilia's face lit up with a confident smile. She was ready to tell Kars all about her grand ambition, making him feel reverence and admiration for her.

"Why, it's to conquer this place, of course! To turn it into the territory of the Scarlett family. I've already investigated; the one who manages this place is the shrine maiden at the Hakurei Shrine. Honestly, the fact that a mere human shrine maiden is the administrator suggests the local yokai are entirely too weak, being suppressed by a human." Remilia shook her head dismissively at the thought of the local yokai.

"Once that Hakurei Shrine Maiden is defeated, all of Gensokyo will be ours. I will blanket Gensokyo in a Scarlet Mist to block out the sun. Then we can go wherever we please, whenever we want."

"Huh? Block out the sun? That's not really necessary, is it?" Kars looked troubled by Remilia's intention. If the sun was gone, what would he do? For Kars, not being able to see the dawn would be absolutely unacceptable.

"That's exactly what I'm talking about! As a vampire, what is wrong with you for liking sunbathing?!" Remilia could not comprehend Kars's peculiar habit. While sun exposure wouldn't kill them, it still caused various issues. This was especially pronounced for the century-old Kars; the sun made his skin red and hot, and prolonged exposure would cause harm. Yet, Kars always looked utterly blissful in that state, making Remilia seriously question if he had been born into the wrong species. Why else would he love the sun so much?

"Because the sun is just so beautiful! Especially at dawn, that light, breaking through the darkness, is incomparably bright and moving. It's like the most exquisite jewel in the whole world!"

Kars instantly became energized when discussing the sun, passionately describing his perspective on its beauty and radiance. Remilia, however, remained unmoved. In her view, Kars was ill, and quite seriously at that. It was like Satan falling in love with Jehovah.

"Enough! I don't want to hear any more. My plan is final. For now, you just need to be obedient and listen to me, or I won't help you find a wife. Understood!" Remilia tapped the table with her finger, looking sternly at Kars.

"I understand, Auntie." Kars's compliance pleased Remilia, and she nodded, satisfied that she still held some authority over him.

"By the way, where is Aunt Flandre? I haven't seen her yet." Kars was curious about the whereabouts of his other, younger aunt.

"Flandre? She's in her room. Her mood has been unstable again lately." Speaking of Flandre, Remilia looked quite vexed. Every time this happened, restricting Flandre's movements caused friction in their relationship.

"I see. Then I'll go check on Aunt Flandre." Kars was quite familiar with Flandre's condition, especially her ability. Experiencing objects spontaneously exploding around him was never pleasant. When Flandre used to hold him, Kars's clothes were often the casualty.

"Yes, go see Flandre. It might help stabilize her mood a little." Remilia agreed. Flandre was quite fond of her nephew. Although she initially treated him like an amusing new toy, once she understood, she became very protective of him. Flandre, when carefully looking after Kars, seemed to mature significantly.

"Then I will escort Master Kars." Sakuya led Kars to Flandre's room. As she opened the door and they walked in, the first things they saw were the large bed in the center and the remains of dozens of broken dolls scattered across the floor. As for Flandre herself…

"Did you come to play a game with Flandre?"

A voice suddenly appeared right behind them, but Kars didn't show any fear. He turned around and saw a figure holding a brown teddy bear standing in the shadow, her red eyes glowing with an eerie light.

"What game do you want to play, little Auntie?"

Flandre stared at Kars curiously for a moment after his reply, then burst into a joyful smile and flew toward him.

"Kars! (ฅ>ω<ฅ)"

"Little Auntie!" Kars caught the flying Flandre, and they hugged for a moment before separating.

"Kars got so big! How did you do that? Tell Flandre! Flandre wants to be as big as Kars, too!" Flandre's eyes were full of anticipation. To her, this seemed like a fascinating game—growing from tiny to so large.

"I don't know, Auntie. I just grew this big on my own."

"Hmmph! Kars is a naughty boy who doesn't listen! I'm Kars's little Auntie, you should listen to Flandre! Ծ‸ Ծ " Flandre, just like Remilia, tried to use her seniority to get Kars to obey.

"Or else… or else Flandre will get angry and smack your hands! And I won't let you play with Flandre's wings anymore!" Her wings, adorned with beautiful, glittering gems that radiated a rainbow light, were what Flandre often used to amuse Kars when he was little. They were highly attractive to the young boy. Now, she was using them as a threat to gain compliance.

"This is exactly like Aunt Remilia..."

But she's just as cute...
