Chapter 3 - A Rare Run In

The news was everywhere. Different headlines, different papers and different rumours flying around, each carrying just an iota of truth.

"The Heiress Who Was No Longer A Heiress."

"The Fallen Heiress Betrayed By Her Now Ex Husband and Ex Best friend?"

"Family And Friends Turn Their Back On The Fallen Heiress."

"Where is Genevieve Harrington Blackwood?"

This was the last headline Genevieve had come across before throwing herself on the bed. She placed her phone face down because she couldn't bear to see anything that reminded her of her misfortune.

Genevieve was locked away in a five star bread and breakfast, it was the perfect hiding spot. No one knew she was hiding here, secluded away from the world and the eyes of the prying paparazzi.

One of the reasons why she liked this particular hotel was because it was very private and in a very secure place. She had stumbled onto this place by accident on one of her business trips and had always made sure to drop in once in a while.

When she remembered the conversation she had had with her Aunt several days ago, she frowned.

"I knew this was going to happen." Aunt Gigi was not surprised when her niece broke the news to her.

Genevieve was silent. She thought it was only fair if she warned her family about Nicholas. Uncle Silas and his family were going to have a field day with her misfortune.

"I warned you and also Father that Nicholas was not a good person but you all didn't listen. And you went ahead to marry him. Now he has served you divorce papers."

Aunt Gigi had been against her union with Nicholas when she had introduced him to her family. She should have listened but it was already too late.

"Are you taking this matter to court?"

"I don't know for now, aunt. Even though I do, it's going to be a very long case."

"You'd better. I will try my best to support you."

"Thank you, auntie." She felt relief flood through her, at least her aunt was on her side. With Uncle Silas, it would have been a different issue.

"What are you going to do?" She asked.

"Stay low for now." That was her best option for now till she was strong enough to bounce back.

"Okay, as for Nicholas, I will handle him." She knew her aunt was planning to put a private investigator on Nicholas soon, that is if she hasn't already.

"Alright aunt." They ended the call on that note.

Genevieve checked the time on her phone, it was already three in the afternoon. Soon, she will be taking her evening bath. But she contemplated if she should go down for dinner or inform the staff to bring her dinner to her room.

As Genevieve showered, her thoughts went to the remaining assets she had under her possession.

The bank had frozen the personal accounts under her name due to Nicholas's influence. Even the joint account they had owned as a married couple was inaccessible.

But what Nicolas didn't know was that she had other accounts , offshore ones where she had stacked a reasonable amount of money . As if she knew something like might happen in the future.

She even had other properties, condos scattered around London, Alaska and other places she had travelled over time.

She had her late father to thank for impacting such knowledge in her.

He had advised her that whenever she traveled to a different place, she should always leave a mark there. Meaning, she should try to get some properties as a souvenir.

"Now over to brushing my teeth." She mumbled to herself, turning off the shower.

She stared at her reflection on the mirror. Her skin was flushed due to the warm temperature of the water.

But her face was a whole different story to write about. She had dark circles under her eyes, a testament to the fact that she hasn't slept well for a week.

But she knew she was an attractive woman, thanks to the genes of her parents.

She rinsed her brush and moved back to get room.

She had only packed a box, filled them with some clothes, skin care products and a lot of underwear.

Then for her other stuff, she had paid a storage company to go pick them up and store them till she was ready.

She swiftly dressed up but paused when she remembered she hadn't made a decision yet on her next move.

"Dinner in or out?" She mumbled to herself.

Reasoning the fact that she had been stuck in this room for two days without going out.

Making up her mind, she left her room locking the door on her way out. She went down the stairs and made her way to the kitchen to ask what was for dinner.

She didn't need to wear a disguise here because it was very private. And no one was going to harass her here.

"Hey." The chef startled dropping his knife when he heard her voice.

"Sorry I didn't mean to startle you." Genevieve apologized feeling bad. She had knocked at the door to the kitchen and when she hadn't gotten a response, she entered.

"No it's fine. Do you want something?" The chef waved her apology away.

"Yeah, yeah. I just wanted to ask what was for dinner."

"Oh, lasagna. Is that ok with you?"

"Yeah." She wasn't selective. That would do just fine.

"I will have the servers bring you some, it's almost ready."

"Alright. Thank you."

After she finished eating, she made her way to the bar. The bartender showed no sign that he recognised her.

He simply nodded at her and she returned the gesture sliding on of the empty stools.

"Cocktail." She slid a hundred dollar bill across the table.

"Do you have any preference?"

"None. Just fix me anything that tastes good." She wanted to loosen up a little this evening.

"Alright ma." The bartender snatched the bill off the table and pocketed it.

"Genevieve Blackwood Harrington." Her heart skipped a beat as she heard a deep male voice call her name from behind.

When she turned, she gasped in as she saw the last person she was expecting to see.

"Sebastian Voss." She whispered, her body rooted in shock.
