Chapter 9 - Plan to ambush Cheng Gang

"What are you doing? Why are you arresting us?"

Chen Gang and his group didn't dare to directly resist, only struggling forcefully.

They knew they couldn't afford to offend the law enforcement officers; if they provoked these 'tiger-skinned' individuals and didn't have a strong enough background, they could easily be ruined.

"Behave yourself!"

The leading law enforcement officer directly jabbed Chen Gang in the kidney area with a baton. Chen Gang cried out in pain and immediately quieted down.

Several Goo Wak Zai (Triad punk/gangster) were handcuffed and escorted out of the alley.

As soon as Chen Gang emerged, he saw Chen Jianghe standing at the alley's entrance, looking indifferent.

"Chen Jianghe, you bastard, how dare you call the police? Just you wait, when I get out, I'll kill you!"

Chen Gang's eyes were bloodshot, and he glared menacingly at Chen Jianghe.

"Shut up!"

The leading law enforcement officer directly struck Chen Gang's leg with a baton, making Chen Gang cry out in pain. Then, the officer smiled and nodded at Chen Jianghe before putting the Goo Wak Zai (Triad punk/gangster) into the car and driving away.

"Jianghe, that's awesome! Your money was well spent; you even managed to get the law enforcement officers to move!"

Zhang Peng excitedly gave a thumbs-up.

"From ancient times to the present, law enforcement has always served two kinds of people: those with money and those with power. Unfortunately, we currently have neither money nor power!"

Chen Jianghe watched the taillights of the departing car, a fierce ambition burning in his eyes.

If he had money and power, his father, Chen Zhiming, wouldn't have been hacked to death.

If he had money and power, Ling Xue wouldn't have left him.

The most important things in this world will always be two.

Money and power!

"Jianghe, I believe you will definitely rise to prominence in the future!"

Zhang Peng said firmly.

Chen Jianghe smiled and returned to the small Western-style building he had been away from for so long. He had the door locks changed and then worked with Zhang Peng until midnight, cleaning the entire building inside and out.

Zhang Peng also had nowhere to go that night. To save money, he usually stayed in the storage room of the Billiard Hall when he worked. His staying there meant the boss didn't have to arrange someone to guard at night, saving a salary, so the boss was happy for Zhang Peng to stay.

Zhang Peng's home was in the suburbs. He didn't go home unless it was a holiday or payday.

Chen Jianghe cleared a room for Zhang Peng.

After tidying up, Chen Jianghe practiced some boxing, worked up a sweat, and then took a shower, preparing to rest.

"Jianghe, what kind of boxing is that? Teach me!"

Zhang Peng watched enviously from the side.

Which boy in the 90s didn't have a martial arts dream? Everyone dreamed of becoming a martial arts master and upholding justice.

He heard that a movie called Goo Wak Zai (Triad punk/gangster) was currently being filmed in Hong Kong and was very popular among young people.

"Okay, I'll teach you!"

Zhang Peng didn't rest until dawn, still feeling unsatisfied.

Early the next morning, Zhang Peng got up early, preparing to go to work.

"Jianghe, don't stay at home. Go out for a walk so Li Jindi's people don't ambush you. I'm going to work. If anything happens, come find me at the Billiard Hall!"

"Dapeng, don't go to the Billiard Hall anymore. You won't earn much money. Follow me from now on. Once we get the arcade back, you'll get a share!"

Chen Jianghe had thought it through last night. Now that the money was spent and the path laid, it was time to figure out what really happened to his father's death and get the arcade back.

"Jianghe, can we do it?"

Zhang Peng hesitated a bit. After all, it was a stable job, and he had to send money home every month; his younger siblings needed money.

"We can!"

Chen Jianghe nodded firmly.

"Alright, Jianghe, I'm with you. I'll call the boss and resign!"

Zhang Peng gritted his teeth, went straight out to the convenience store to make a call, and then bought a few fried dough sticks to bring back for breakfast.

"Jianghe, how do you plan to do it?"

Zhang Peng asked, biting into a fried dough stick.

"I plan to cripple Chen Gang first!"

"Chen Gang is Li Jindi's right-hand man. Crippling Chen Gang is like crippling one of Li Jindi's arms!"

"After dealing with Chen Gang, we'll deal with Li Jindiand Shao Wan!"

"How about it, Dapeng, do you dare to do it?"

A murderous glint flashed in Chen Jianghe's eyes. He would get his revenge, and he would reclaim what belonged to him.

In prison, he had learned one truth: in this society, it's the law of the jungle.

If you don't take meat from others' mouths, others will take meat from yours.

"Jianghe, what do I have to be afraid of? A man dies facing the sky; if he doesn't die, he lives forever. Why can they earn thousands a day while I can only earn a few hundred a month? I also want to make a name for myself!"

Zhang Peng stood up excitedly.

"Good, Dapeng, we two brothers will carve out our own world!"

In this era, opportunities were everywhere; it just depended on whether one had the fate to seize them.

After eating, Chen Jianghe took Zhang Peng to a hardware store, asked someone to make two machetes, and bought two pairs of brass knuckles.

In those days, as long as you paid, it was easy to buy such things.

The streets were full of Goo Wak Zai (Triad punk/gangster), and people bought knives every day.

Chen Jianghe and Zhang Peng going to buy weapons was not at all unusual.

After buying the weapons, the two returned to the small Western-style building. Chen Jianghe put on the brass knuckles and tried them out, very satisfied. His boxing was fierce; in three years in prison, he was the one who called the shots in his entire cell block.

He had made a name for himself purely with his iron fists.

However, going bare-handed against someone with a weapon would definitely put him at a disadvantage. With brass knuckles, it was different.

"Jianghe, what now?"

Zhang Peng drew a machete and tried it out; it felt very handy.

Having watched over the Billiard Hall for so long, he also had the courage to fight.

"Go borrow a motorcycle, remove the license plates, and when you're ready, ride the motorcycle back home and wait for me. I'll go stake out the arcade; Chen Gang will be out soon!"

Li Jindi definitely had connections. In those days, a large expense for arcades was 'protection fees,' but these protection fees weren't paid to thugs.

Chen Jianghe estimated that Chen Gang would at most spend one night inside and would be released by the afternoon at the latest.

"Then I'll go back!"

Zhang Peng nodded. Chen Jianghe gave him another hundred yuan. He bought a few pounds of meat and two bottles of wine, then went to borrow a motorcycle.

Chen Jianghe went out to scout the area. He was very familiar with North Street, but it had changed quite a bit in the past three years, so he needed to look more carefully.

By the afternoon, he had planned his route.

Surveillance cameras hadn't yet become widespread in those days, which was why street fights were so rampant. Shenzhen only began gradually implementing surveillance after 2006, and only then did public safety slowly start to improve.

As he expected, after Chen Jianghe scouted in the afternoon, he saw Chen Gang return to the arcade in a taxi.

He returned alone; the few Goo Wak Zai (Triad punk/gangster) who were with him last night would probably be detained for a few more days.

Before dark, Zhang Peng also rode a Jialing JH70 motorcycle back to the small Western-style building.

"Jianghe, the car's here, and I've filled it with gas. When are we making our move?"

Zhang Peng had removed both the front and rear license plates of the motorcycle and had specifically found two pairs of gloves and two helmets.

"Tonight!"

Chen Jianghe's eyes were cold as he wrapped the knives in newspaper.

"Alright, I'll listen to you. Whatever you say, we'll do!"

Zhang Peng took a deep breath, gritted his teeth, and nodded.
