Chapter 4 - The First Dragon

The room was silent.

Only the faint hum of the night wind slipped through the half-open window, brushing against the curtains like whispers of fate.

Ye Fang sat on the edge of his bed, his cold eyes fixed on the mysterious egg resting upon his desk.

It glowed faintly in the dim light — a golden-red sheen that shimmered like molten metal beneath the surface. Elegant flame-like symbols coiled around its shell, each one pulsing with a soft rhythm, as if the egg itself were breathing.

Every pulse carried an aura both warm and ancient — calm yet terrifying — the kind of power that felt like it could burn the heavens if provoked.

For a long moment, Ye Fang simply stared. The faint reflection of the egg's glow danced in his eyes, and in that stillness, it felt as though time itself had stopped.

Then, slowly, he extended his hand and brushed his fingers across the warm shell.

The instant his palm made contact, a soft ripple of energy surged through him — like a wave of heat and will combined. He could feel something inside the egg… something alive… watching him back.

His lips pressed into a firm line. There was no hesitation. Ye Fang summoned the Dragon Taming Technique, the one ability that came with his awakening.

A faint circle of light appeared under his hand — intricate runes forming and spinning with a soft crimson hue. Energy poured from his body into the egg, flowing like liquid fire.

The markings on the shell began to glow brighter, the pulse quickening in response. It was as though the egg had recognized him.

Then came the sound — crack… crack… crack…

Tiny fractures spread across the surface. Ye Fang's calm gaze never wavered, but his heartbeat quickened. He could feel the connection forming — a strange bond tying itself to his spirit, growing stronger with every passing second.

The egg trembled violently.

A final crack split the air — and then, from the broken shell, a small golden-red head slowly emerged.

Its eyes, like twin embers, blinked open for the first time. A soft chirping growl escaped its throat as it looked directly at Ye Fang.

The tiny dragon crawled free from the shell — its scales gleaming with firelight, each one reflecting shades of red and gold. Two small horns curved from its head, and faint wisps of heat shimmered in the air around it.

Despite its small size, it carried a regal presence — a creature born not of the mortal world, but from something far older.

The dragon tilted its head curiously. For a moment, human and dragon simply stared at each other.

Then, as if understanding the bond between them, the little creature leapt into Ye Fang's hands and rubbed its head against his palm.

Ye Fang's cold expression softened ever so slightly. His fingers brushed over the dragon's smooth scales, feeling the faint warmth of its body. It let out a soft purr — a low, contented rumble that filled the quiet room with life.

"...So, you've accepted me," Ye Fang murmured.

He reached out, lifting one of the remaining shell fragments. The dragon, sensing it, eagerly bit into the piece — crunching and swallowing the remains.

The shell glowed faintly as it dissolved, feeding the little dragon with rich energy. Its body shimmered, and before Ye Fang's eyes, it grew slightly larger — its tail longer, wings sharper.

Ye Fang's gaze deepened. He called softly, "Status Window."

At once, a translucent golden panel appeared before him — only visible to his eyes.

He studied the details calmly. Everything was as it should be — simple, empty, waiting to be filled with potential.

But now, his focus shifted to the dragon perched in his hands.

"Your turn," he whispered.

The moment he willed it, another golden panel opened beside his own — this one burning with crimson light.

Ye Fang's brows furrowed slightly as he read. Even for an SSS-grade dragon, the stats were astonishing. Two hundred points in every category — that was the power of a creature born to rule over flames.

Then — another notification echoed in his mind.

The panel flashed once again. Ye Fang's own stats shifted before his eyes.

For a brief moment, he sat in silence, absorbing the sheer magnitude of change.

To anyone else, it would have been a miracle. For Ye Fang, it was simply the first step.

He looked down at the small dragon, now curled up in his palm, breathing softly. Its tail wrapped around his wrist as if marking its territory.

The connection between them pulsed faintly — warm, strong, alive.

A faint sound echoed again inside his mind — the familiar mechanical chime of the system.

[Ding!

New Task Released:

Reach Level 10 – Both Host and Dragon.

Ye Fang's lips curved ever so slightly.

"Level ten, hm…" he whispered.

It seemed the system wanted him to grow stronger — faster.

He turned his eyes toward the small creature resting peacefully in his hand. The dragon's body radiated faint warmth, its chest rising and falling in steady rhythm.

The soft glow of its scales filled the dim room with gentle light.

He reached out and gently stroked its head once more before speaking quietly, "Rest. You'll need strength soon."

The little dragon responded with a soft chirp before closing its eyes.

With a thought, Ye Fang activated his other skill — the Dragon Taming Space.

A circle of light appeared, and the dragon slowly dissolved into a stream of golden energy, vanishing into the space between worlds.

Silence returned.

Ye Fang leaned back on his bed, eyes half-closed. The golden panel still hovered faintly in front of him — lines of text glowing softly before fading away one by one.

He turned his gaze to the window. The city outside lay quiet under the moonlight, unaware of the legend that had just taken its first breath.

Tomorrow would bring the start of preparations for the Secret Realm Trial.

For others, it was a chance to prove themselves.

For Ye Fang, it was the path toward something far greater.

The faintest trace of a smile crossed his face — cold, confident, unstoppable.

The world thought his talent useless.

Soon, it would tremble beneath it.

He closed his eyes, letting the hum of the night fill the room.

And as the moonlight fell across his still form, a faint shimmer of crimson and gold glowed from his hand — the last echo of his dragon's warmth.
