Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Memory

 "I don't understand, Libby."

"You're the youngest. You don't have to understand or sacrifice for the family."

"Just because I am seventeen and your nineteen doesn't mean I am any less important then you are." My sister laughed at me as I laid on her bed watching the sun light across her ceiling. She was brushing her long blond hair in front of her mirror. She was gorgeous. Crystal blue eyes, high cheek bones, blond wavey hair, stood the normal five foot six, average bust and a rear that rounded perfectly with her curves and hips. She took after her father, Vladamir Deamore. I, on the other hand, had brown eyes, auburn shoulder length hair, and was in a B bra. Our hips and rear were about the same but I never thought my average stomach looked right with the other curves. Not like her flat model looking body. Every where we went she grabbed some guys attention and she knew it. We were total opposites. She loved dresses, make up and jewelry. I loved animals, pants, and climbing trees. I guess having different mothers would contribute to that. She was only my step sister.

"It's too bad you can't take my place." She said turning blue puppy dog eyes at me as I sat up to look at her. "All I hope is that this guy dad is trying to hook me up with is sexy, well groomed, and mannered. I didn't even think arranged marriages were still legal."

"Why would they make it illegal?" I exclaimed. She laughed at my logical question.

"Wow, Val. Always got to be logical." I growled.

"Someone has to." I exclaimed. She suddenly made a sad face. I watched as the carefree expressions turned the complete other way. "What's wrong now?"

"If this arrangement works… I can't see Oliver anymore."

"Your still seeing him?" She nodded. "He never asked you to make it official." She sighed. "He never will either, Libby."

"What do you know? Your just a kid."

"I am not." I yelled at her just before a knock was heard on the door.

"Yes?" She asked, before the maid opened the door.

"Master Deamore requested the both of you to come to the entrance hall way. The Augustin family has arrived." She moaned, looked up at the ceiling in a drama attempt.

"Come on, sis." She said as we both stood to leave the room. She wore her normal just above knee long free sway skirt dress with a low neck line. Her favorite color, pink. I wore black jeans and a t shirt that hid most of my body curves. I wasn't wanting to grab any boys attention, so he tom boy routine suited me just fine. We didn't say anything as I picked up on her sad mood. I just held my hands behind my back, and followed the 'princess' down the one flight of steps, to the platform, and stopped next to her as I heard father laughing.

Across from him was a gentlemen about the same age as father was. He had glasses, a goatee mustache combo, black hair with pearl white strands running through the still thick gel back hair, stood maybe six foot, wore a business suit along with shiny polished black dress shoes. His hands were at his side, loose, as he had hazel eyes.

The man standing next to him, stood a foot away. He had black jet hair that was thicker then the father's, parted in the middle and reached just below his ear lobes. He had a small patch of hair on the tip of his chin, but nothing more. He had his hands in his pants pockets. The blue jeans hugged his strong hips when his hands were in the pockets, tightening the fabric around them. He stood two inches taller then the father, and had eyes that reminded me of a field of grass, swaying in the breeze. When he smiled, showing straight white teeth, he had dimples that showed on both cheeks but very slight. When he did bother to smile, it wasn't a full smile, but a faked, caked on whatever smile. He seemed to be reluctant to this plan just as Libby was. Like he had better things to do then to mingle with his father's friends.

His green eyes looked up at us as he slightly turned to get a better view. Libby was in front of me, as I knew she was giving her dashing, charismatic smile. He didn't do anything, just looked at her as she then tilted her head. I followed down, standing a little to the side as my brown plain normal eyes met his clear green ones. I felt my heart hit my feet. His eyes were so gorgeous, and I bet they can see right into someone's soul. Who did he kill to get those eyes? Did he sell his soul to the devil to look that sexy? Well, I know Libby shouldn't have a problem in that section. He was what she wanted. Sexy. I noticed him grin as my father turned.

"Ah, Lydia, come meet Jay and his son." Libby put on her excited performance, placed her hands behind her back as she reached the small group. I just walked normally and stood behind my father and Libby. I watched the scene in front of me. The green eyes looking down at Libby who's head was still slightly tilted, to my brown ones. "Jay this is my oldest daughter, Lydia. Lydia this is Jay Augustin and his son Kazimir." She gave them her smile, held her hand out to receive the father's.

"It's a pleasure." After shaking hands with him, she shook her hand with the other man. "I am sure." Her hands went back behind her.

"My daughter is well aware of the possible arrangements of marriage." Father said. I kept my hands in front of me, folded, as the green eyes caught my brown ones again, before moving to my father.

"So is Kaz. It makes it easier on both to know the situation right off hand." Jay's arms crossed as his eyes were on father. "I don't see it much of a problem with Kaz. He knows he will take over our business one day, and the merge of yours and mine are a very big monopoly in the jewelry industry."

"It is." Father agreed. "Let's move to the den where we can have a private conversation." Father moved his hand in the direction of the said room. "It's quiet in there and refreshments are there as well." Jay nodded as father lead the way to the den. Libby came over to me as Kaz went to follow the men, but then stopped, turned and watched us. Libby sighed as I looked at her.

"I feel like an item on the auction block." She said.

"Maybe things won't work out." I said to her feeling those green eyes burn a hole in my forehead.

"I can't say the guy isn't good looking. He gets ten points in that department."

"Only ten?" I exclaimed. "In my book those looks would be a 75." She chuckled.

"Well, better go. I probably won't see you till dinner. Have a fun day, sis."

"You too. Don't screw up on purpose." She smiled, nodded, then turned. I watched as she approached green eyes, said something as they walked down the hall together. His hands not leaving his pockets as they made it to the den. He opened the door, she smiled and thanked him. He went to take a step in, turned to look at me as my eyes narrowed at him. He stepped into the den.
