Chapter 14 - When the walls shook

The night was not yet over when the first explosion rang out.

The walls of the tunnel shook as if they were about to collapse on top of them, and dust fell from the ceiling onto their heads.

Daniel trembled, clinging to the wall, his heart pounding like a funeral drum.

Naomi screamed, covering her head with her hands:

"Oh my God! They're bombing again!"Ori roared in pain and anger, despite his injury:

"Idiots! They don't even know we're here. They're going to kill us all!"

Khalid sat in the corner, repeating in a broken voice:

"Oh God... Oh God, forgive me... I don't want to die like this."

Yusuf stood still, his eyes scanning the walls, raising his small lamp to see if the ceiling had

cracked.

Although dust covered his face, his voice remained strong:

"Hold on! This land does not belong to them... even if they bury us under it."

Another explosion rang out, louder than the first, and dust rained down like rain.

Daniel fell to the ground, trying to protect his head. At that moment, he felt death approaching, indifferent to whether one was Jewish or Palestinian, traitor or fighter.

Death here was fair... it levelled them all.

Yusuf reached out and grabbed Daniel's arm, pulling him to his feet:

"Do not be afraid. Those who are destined to bear witness have not yet died."

Daniel looked into his eyes and saw something he did not fully understand:

a quiet strength, an absolute belief that the battle was bigger than the walls of the tunnel.

As the place shook again, Daniel thought bitterly:

"Perhaps if I were in his place... I would not be able to believe with such steadfastness."
