Chapter 62: Megatron's Eyes Burn with Intensity
"Oil? Energy? And an outpost built by ancient Decepticons? This Lockdown must be a bounty hunter, right? What's happening on that planet? Why didn't we find any records about it? Soundwave, organize all the data Starscream sent...especially the parts about oil and natural gas that can be converted into Energon cubes. I need to know exactly what these substances are, and fast! I never thought that fool Starscream would send something this valuable!"
Megatron was still full of questions, but the moment he saw the information about energy conversion, he ignored everything else.
The facts were clear: the unknown planet Starscream had reached contained traces of ancient Transformers...ones who had clearly discovered a form of prehistoric energy. This was a miracle for Cybertron, whose power reserves were nearly depleted. If they could secure this resource, Megatron and his army would have enough energy to thrive for countless years.
The Decepticon leader immediately postponed his plans to deal with the giant dinosaur Salas and the Titan Scorponok. This time, he would personally lead his most trusted warriors to that planet. It seemed Starscream, foolish as he was, had stumbled upon tremendous luck.
"Congratulations, Lord Megatron! It appears we've found an alternative energy source. And according to Commander Starscream's isotope analysis, there also seems to be a rich gold mine on that planet. Gold is a rare metal for us Cybertronians, and it's essential for many advanced fuses and circuit switches."
Indeed...what seemed like useless data to Starscream was pure treasure to the professionals. Because of this, Megatron was now burning with impatience. He wanted to fly straight there, embrace Starscream, and claim all of the planet's resources for himself.
"Excellent, excellent. That Omnivision Plan you mentioned can finally be implemented. Starscream also reported that the planet hosts many carbon-based life forms. That could be troublesome...but with Decepticon technology, converting those life forms won't be an issue. Soundwave, your task is to retrieve the Omnivision Blueprint from those foolish Decepticon leaders immediately. Stop them from wasting it on junk like this!"
Megatron pointed to the pile of twisted metal on the ground. Just minutes earlier, those had been several beautiful Transformer femmes...but to this Decepticon warlord, using such precious technology to create them had been an utter waste.
No one expected Megatron to be so impatient. Was he really planning to leave already? Upon hearing that Starscream had discovered both valuable metals and new energy sources, Megatron didn't hesitate for a second...he would personally embark on an expedition. His decisiveness and ruthless efficiency were qualities that many younger warriors could only dream of.
"Megatron, what should we prepare this time? We know almost nothing about that planet. You should at least bring a group of powerful subordinates. I just reviewed the records about that old Decepticon called Lockdown...our Commander Starscream might not be a match for him. What do you think…?"
Soundwave's loyalty was unmatched. Within moments, he had already outlined several operational plans for Megatron's mission. Yet after hearing the news of this new energy source, Megatron seemed to forget everything else.
"No, no, no. I'll go personally this time. Contact my Royal Decepticon Guard. I'll send you the coordinates once I find a suitable landing zone on that planet. This mission must remain absolutely secret...especially from Dinosaur Salas and the Titans. I won't share such a fresh energy source with those two greedy beasts."
Megatron feared that if word of this leaked too early, it would attract the greed of other Decepticons...particularly those two power-hungry lords. If they got involved, nothing good would come of it.
"Understood. I'll prepare the AllSpark immediately. I hope you, Lord Megatron, can restore our Cybertronian world to its former glory!"
After Megatron's briefing, Soundwave fully understood his leader's intent. The Decepticons were full of powerful warriors, but compared to the Autobots' loyalty, very few were truly dependable.
"Don't tell Starscream I'm heading to that planet yet. I don't want that fool ruining my plans. I won't interfere with what he's doing there. Once I reach the planet's atmosphere, I'll transmit the exact coordinates to him."
Although everything Starscream had reported seemed legitimate, Megatron still couldn't shake his unease. For some reason, the Decepticon leader trusted no one but Soundwave.
"Yes, my lord! I'll personally select the warriors who will await your signal, and I promise that even if we leave Cybertron for a while, your rivals will have no idea where you've gone."
This Soundwave had followed Megatron longer than any other Decepticon...and understood him better than anyone. As mechanical beings, Transformers were nearly immortal, but without a steady supply of energy and constant system upgrades, even they would eventually be rendered obsolete.
Thus, over tens of thousands of years, both Autobots and Decepticons had continued to evolve...using their immense power to reshape their environment, becoming a nearly invincible super-civilization within the universe.
When Megatron left Cybertron, he used only a small space capsule. Most assumed it was merely a routine patrol mission. Even the ever-vigilant Zergling failed to notice the absence of the Decepticon leader.
Meanwhile, the aged Soundwave secretly gathered a team of simple-minded but physically powerful Decepticon warriors shortly after Megatron's departure, placing them on high alert. Once they received the signal confirming Megatron's arrival, these brutes would unleash unimaginable nightmares upon the planet of that primitive civilization.
