Lucien was halfway through reorganizing the pack's border patrol schedule when the raven arrived.
It wasn't a normal raven. Its feathers shimmered silver at the tips. Its eyes glowed faintly blue, the mark of high elven mana.
It landed on his desk, dropped a scroll sealed by the Magnus crest, and vanished in a burst of crystalline dust.
Lucien stood slowly.
The room felt heavier. The air itself held a kind of pressure that made instinct crawl across his skin. No one sent messages from the Magnus clan casually, and certainly not sealed by the ruling bloodline.
He broke the wax.
