Chapter 12 - Heaven's Embassy part 3/3 final part

(AN: Another update, wow, bet you all weren't expecting that, huh? Well, my lovely demons and angels, I plan on updating as often as I can once I'm done with my finals week and starting Christmas break till jan 2nd. Psychology is not an easy major to study or a degree to get.)

"Well, that concludes our meeting, Ambassador Adam. And as per our contract, the annual extermination will be reduced to merely half a day, and any angels who overstay their welcome will well.....You've already seen what happens." Evelyn is all sharp teeth at this moment, and Charlie, both scared and amazed, just quietly stands by her side. Adam glares behind his mask as He signals Lute to cut the projection off as they vanish. Meanwhile, as soon as they leave, Evelyn reverts to her less predatory temperament and starts checking on Charlie, who she notices grow shocked at the angel's head being pulled out, and also wonders where her sister hid it. Charlie then sees her sister fussing and blushes.

"Sis, I'm fine….where did you get that angel head at anyway and how?" Evelyn looks at Charlie's confusion and sighs before explaining how, during last week's extermination, Overlord Carmine confessed to slaying an angel and putting the treaty between heaven and hell at risk. Unfortunately, before they could gather the body, the angels had discovered it first, and they only managed to take its head. So Evelyn began investigating and found traces of angelic activity and damage on the family properties, thus breaking one of the clauses in the extermination treaty. She used this as a loophole, making heaven the one at fault and Carmine's action as legal retaliation, and thus gained the upper hand in their negotiations.

"I knew if it got out to Heaven's High Seraphim Sera, an angel was killed by an Overlord, they would try to pull something, so I used their own laws against them when I brought up their breaching of the contract and that we had full right to defend against angelic attacks after that. Sure, I tweaked the timing, but as far as heaven knows, we were well within our rights to retaliate." Charlie just goes silent at the bombshell her sister dropped, as she realizes just how much control her sister actually has in Hell's Pride Ring and even more in Pentagram City. Charlie starts thinking about every time in the past when she seemed to come out unscathed and avoided many pitfalls during her early years of trying to get support for the hotel, and now thinks it's because her sister was pulling strings from the start.

Evelyn knows what her sister is thinking and smiles while adjusting her sister's suit jacket, smoothing a few creases. "Don't worry about anything, dear. Just focus on your hotel and dreams while I deal with the heavy lifting and politics. You're only 200, Charlie, and should enjoy your youth."

Evelyn's words cause Charlie to realise something….Evelyn was born merely a thousand years after hell was created, and only in the last 3,000years has it been as organized and peaceful as it is now. Her sister never had the same easy childhood as Charlie did because she was always busy ruling hell or studying with their father to really enjoy being young. This causes her to realise how much her sister actually sacrificed just so she could grow up in a safe realm and not worry about a civil war or uprising like her sister had to.

"Sis….you really have done a lot for me…for everyone havent you?" Charlie whispers, unheard by her older sister, who, after finishing fixing Charlie's coat, starts talking on her phone, having at some point begun negotiating with suppliers from the lower rings of envy and Gluttony about food deliveries to the disaster shelters in pride for the homeless and displaced sinners after the exterminations.

Charlie, at that moment, makes a promise to herself. She will stand next to her sister and shoulder the burden of hell as an equal instead of hiding behind her sister and her father's protection.
