Chapter 21 - Between a Rock and a Wyrm Place

The war was progressing swiftly. Hundreds of thousands of goblins had already perished and dissolved into loot or experience for the players. One hundred players had so far died and were quickly regrouping at Akihabara, planning for a second wave if it should be necessary.

I had been sniping Giants and Helicopters from the battlefield earlier in the fight, an aspect that had changed since the battle was now primarily endless waves of small goblins and wargs. Thousands died every minute and even more were dead in the minutes following... The entire valley was dripping in viscera, blood and bones.

After defending the backline I had been ordered to the front, the chat room serving as a bridge between the Player's console and us. The vanguard of the war was murderous... The entire path to them were painted in organs and brain matters, errant limbs being picked at by various nocturnal carrion that squawked or hooted as I passed by.

Every now and then along the trek I found wounded players being tended to by priestesses and other classes that could heal. That was about the time when I saw a massive line of men and women slowly advancing. Watching as they advanced I could only compare the sight to a mincer. Metal blades, axes, hammers and spears swept forwards and all that remained after was the haze of crimson that seeped deeper into the cracked dirt below and the minced meat of goblins.

"Drecarios, take the middle. Jester has the right flank and I have the left..." A magical image of Loki emerged beside me and whispered directly into my ear before it disappeared, a massive blast of dark green energy pulsing from the left flank of the vanguard.

The right flank lit up with pink and yellow unicorns that swarmed in a circle around a single figure, the magic piercing into the goblins and incinerating them. A mystical lollipop soon followed that started spinning before crushing the skull of a random Giant that was somehow still around.

Shaking my head I raced through the gory battlefield, my eyes scanning the backline of the vanguard unit. Mages and priests were sprinkled amongst the varying martial classes that were staggering their attacks to ensure a continuous, cyclical, grind against the unending numbers. Sweating from the exertion of earlier fights I pushed past them and stepped into the very back uniform line of the Player's formation.

A scream erupted to my left as an acid bolt melted the neck of one of the players, his eyes widening in horror before his body turned into particles of light and he disappeared. These people wouldn't truly die but they could suffer before they temporarily transitioned between death and life.

I traced the source of the magical attack and found a cloaked goblin standing on a small rock outcropping in the middle of the valley. Time slowed as I tempestuously transitioned my attention over to that location, my mind turning the entire rock edifice into a sloshing heap of magma that exploded upwards with a little coaxing of the electrons across the majority of the structure.

My head ached as that entire outcropping detonated, smoke drifting from the bubbling lava. I was a part of the combat now and there was no time for a painkiller or a nice little sleep, arrows were dropping from above and had to create a dome to momentarily protect myself. With barely a moment to spare the iron wall bent backwards over my head, hundreds of clanging objects echoing above before the shafts dropped to the ground behind or in front of the wall. I turned the iron back to stone and dropped it back into the ground, the foremost line of Players roaring out as they pushed off hundreds of Goblins and stabbed out with mechanical precision.

The second line moved past them and slammed into the next batch of goblins, their swords and shields decapitating, maiming or bludgeoning the little monsters underfoot. The third line stepped in after and the entire formation cycled again and again. We were only gaining ten metres every two minutes.

Tony Stark- We're taking on an army of 250,000 over here, can you guys afford any reinforcements?

Aegon Targaryen- Aid, would be much, appreciated!

Jester Lavorre- Kind BUSY... BUSTING goblin HEADS!!!

Shiroe of Log Horizon- How many do you need Stark?

Tony Stark- Couple hundred, given the kill ratio of players to these Mermen

Shiroe of Log Horizon- On it, my guild will come assist... I'll see if I can get some allies as well

Tony Stark- Thanks a bunch glasses

Shiroe of Log Horizon- 🧐

Drecarios Frost- You ready to come help us Luke?

Luke Skywalker- Ah, well, unfortunately I have just discovered that the Empire's previous forces have united under Grand Admiral Thrawn... I, will be unable to help

Tony Stark- Time is halted Padawan... that's a weak excuse.

Luke Skywalker- It isn't my excuse, it's my wife's

Tony Stark- Ah... 😬

Just Ciri- If you're desperate I could help, don't know if my sword skills would be useful?

Tony Stark- Every little bit helps, feel free to come over

Another exchange of ranks occurred as the meat grinder churned through more meat. The smell of iron suffused every single inch of the valley, the stench dulling all of my other senses until all I could understand was bloodshed and carnage.

I stepped forwards into the front line and stomped my foot on the ground. A massive wave of earth exploded out from the impact, the dirt and stone below the thousands of goblins in front of us turned into spikes of iron that perforated and decimated every single one of them... To such an extent that the front line rushed forwards to cover the ground I had made.

The formation got back into rhythm for a few more minutes until I copied the exact same move and destroyed another thousand goblins that all exploded into gory sparkling piles of blood. My lungs burned with the effort just as my mind was throbbing in the effort.

For half an hour this continued until an enormous roar rumbled through the valley, rocks and stone vibrating upon the blood-stained battlefield below at the sheer volume. Looking ahead all of the Goblins had begun retreating, their little legs pounding upon the dirt in desperation.

"Shit, that sounds like a purple worm..."

"Don't say that Don!!!"

"Yeah, fucker, that's just asking for one to turn up!"

The ranks of Players all groaned out or yelled their responses to Don's words whilst I looked forwards, noticing a massive purple mass swallowing an entire swathe of the Goblin army. It was angled towards our current position and was as wide as the two kilometre wide valley.

I rolled my shoulders as a massive dagger made of green energy speared down towards the massive Wyrm. At the same time from the opposite side I witnessed a bolt of bright pink-blue energy soar into the mouth of the creature, rows and rows of sharp teeth illuminating one after another before fading back into darkness.

"Holy fuck! You just had to say something didn't you!?"

"How the fuck are we going to survive that...?"

"Crusty can take it on I bet."

There was a brief pause in the conversation behind me.

"Do you fucking see him here????"

"No..."

I huffed in mild frustration before drawing my consciousness across the entire valley floor, my mind churning away at all of the atomic structures and infrastructures of the environment. My power could be used like a scalpel sometimes, allowing me to add protons, neutrons or electrons by ripping them away from other structures... This was far too wide of an area to manipulate such delicate principals.

The only option I had open was to forcefully mould the entire valley floor into spikes and then force off the electrons in said floor to quickly switch between different atoms as quickly as possible, splitting atoms at such a rate that the entirety of the valley floor below the Wyrm exploded in a massive cascade... Then the only challenge would be to contain the radiation and convert it into pure oxygen, something that future me can worry about.

Loki's magical dagger slashed into the side of the Wyrm's carapace and drew out a massive shriek that made my eardrums' throb in pain, a pain everyone else was also experiencing.

Loki Odinson- Drecarios can you deal with this or do I need to expend myself...?

Drecarios Frost- Leave it to me. I'll be out for a time after this, especially considering i'll be converting radiation into pure oxygen afterwards...

Loki Odinson- Do it

I sighed and pulled on the entire valley floor, my mind quaking with the effort. The pressure was akin to the trials of Hercules. The ground shook in the combined force of the Wyrm and my power, the very floor before the army of Players rumbling before exploding upwards into large spikes that were twenty feet tall.

Blood leaked down my nose as my brain rolled with the metaphorical punches. The spikes curved towards the purple worm as it methodically scraped up hundreds of thousands of goblins, including the ground that I was manipulating. My ears slowly began popping as they too started bleeding, the strain of manipulating such a vast amount of land bringing my body to its limits.

"F-Fuck you."

Every electron in every atom began producing energy at a much larger rate, that energy bled into momentum and velocity which was directed solely by my mind. Then, as if a switch had been flicked my perception solely focussed on the internal materials inside the Purple Worm... My focus narrowed and my power sharpened. Manipulating the entire valley surface was overkill, focussing on manipulating the atoms inside the creature was the way to victory.

With a scream my vocal cords tore, blood pouring down my face as I felt the stomach of the creature, the brain, the skeletal structure that wrapped around its varying organs... All at once I forced all of the electrons within these structure to vibrate and overpower. Seconds passed for everyone else but for me it was as if I was slowly pouring through every atom that existed within the creature and personally leeching energy from the electromagnetic field of the planet itself to power my attack.

As my blood joined within the crimson-bathed floor of the valley the Wyrm slammed down against the ground and shrieked with such an alien tone that it sent shivers up everyone's spines. In moments the skin of the creature shattered and erupted into bloody pustules as internal puncture wounds collapsed in on themselves and the spewed forth purple ichor that burst out over the walls of the valley.

Dropping to my knees I increased the potency, splitting one single atom with the heart of the monstrosity... A detonation from inside incinerated the majority of its surfaced body as it wailed in agony, finally collapsing after the majority of its blood lathered the ground. It died in agony and now faded into particles of crimson light.

I collapsed onto the blood-stained ground, my mind thumping away as my vision narrowed and darkness slowly coalesced around me.

'I- wonder if I killed it...'

~~~
Loki Odinson watched as the man that he had considered giving an apple of Idun to slumped to the ground unconscious, the mighty beast shredded from the inside out as apocalyptic fires slowly burned out of the carcass.
A grin slid into place upon his face, his Seidr singing in triumph for his friend. Thor and Hela had slain many a foul beast with their godly weapons, a feat he was used to hearing about within Asgard's feasting hall. This was different however... This was a mortal facing down a beast of legend and rending it from organ to marrow, merely slumping into unconsciousness after such a confrontation. For many mortals that was an impossible feat, surviving that is. This one, his friend, had not only survived but had slain the creature with a surgical nature akin to his own. He was impressed and heavily considering bringing Drecarios to Asgard to become one of them.
Jester Lavorre- I got him! I'll go HEAL him! 🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇
Loki Odinson- That was, impressive, for a mortal
Tony Stark- What did Elsa do now?
Loki Odinson- He had just slain a beast of immense size, comparable to the width of the valley we fight within and longer than this valley most likely spans... By himself, with but his powers in manipulating the building blocks of reality
Just Ciri- Holy shit...! That sounds, powerful...
Luke Skywalker- Impressive. That creature sounds like the Asteroid Worms that prey on transport ships
Aegon Targaryen- I have no idea how he managed such a feat but, good for him
Shiroe of Log Horizon- The rest of the leaders send their thanks to Drecarios for taking down the Purple Worm. It would have delayed our warfare by another two days, in which we would have had a 67% chance of having a break out of the goblin forces
Tony Stark- Are we seriously skipping over the fact that he just soloed a massive, fuck-off, worm monster and that Reindeer-games just complimented him!?
Jester Lavorre- I KNOW RIGHT!?!?! It was SOOOO coool!!! He was like: HMMMMMRGGHHHH and then the ground went: WHHHHHOOOSH... THEN, he like strained his butt or somethin and the big WORM-thingy started screamin and screamin!
Jester Lavorre- WiCkEd! 😈😈😈😈😈😈
Loki Odinson- Regardless, there is still a war to finish. Jester shall look after Drecarios whilst I continue forwards with the Vanguard
Shiroe of Log Horizon- Excellent, Crusty shall be joining you shortly... He was waylaid by several Goblin generals on the way to the front line
Loki Odinson- Ah, I shall see him soon then...
Jester Lavorre- HOLY SHIT!!!!!
Tony Stark- What is it sparkles?
Jester Lavorre- Drecarios is SUPER shiny! ✨✨
Tony Stark- Huh?
Jester Lavorre- Like... Like... Ahhhh, I mean, CA'MAN, he's GLOWIN man!
Just Ciri- What fucking circus did I join...?
Aegon Targaryen- I constantly ask myself the same question...
