Viona's POV
I shook my head hard, not because I was dizzy, but to ground my goldfish memory and figure out how I had ended up asleep on the bed.
But the memory only flashed the part where I felt comfortable, eyes closing while leaning against Rafael's head. After that, it was blank.
I blinked hard, clearing the corners of my eyes, then checked how deeply Vae was sleeping.
Once I was sure she was still lost in her dreams from that innocently sweet smile, I lightly patted Rafael's hand.
One tap. He did not wake up.
Two taps. Still asleep.
Wasn't a doctor supposed to be on constant alert? Even a ticking clock could give them insomnia. He drank sleeping pills because of job-insomnia, didn't he?
I shook his hand this time, and only then did his eyelids flutter open.
His reddened eyes told me clearly that I had just cruelly dragged him out of deep sleep.
"Rafael… wake up!" I whispered so Vae would not wake up. This was not how I imagined revealing the truth to my kids.
