Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: A Call from the Bat

Ada Wong—often called "Sister Wong"—was a legendary, morally ambiguous spy in the Resident Evil series, renowned in the underworld for her cunning and versatility.

Of course, that was in the Resident Evil games. The Ada Wong standing before Ethan was now a member of the World Federal Investigation Bureau.

Her appearance both surprised and delighted Ethan Hunter.

Surprised, because it confirmed that this world also integrated the Resident Evil universe.

Delighted, because compared to the flashy, chaotic worlds of Marvel and DC, the Resident Evil world was practically "beginner mode."

After all, in the Resident Evil universe, there were few enemies that couldn't be handled with conventional firearms.

If there were any, a few extra rounds would do the trick.

"Ms. Wong, it's an honor to meet you."

"Compared to the youngest ace agent in the Republic Bureau, I suppose I am a bit… old," Ada replied with a faint smile.

"I was only joking," Ethan said quickly, grasping her hand. "I'm very glad to meet you, Ada."

"Likewise, Agent Ethan Hunter." Ada's smile was perfectly measured, polite but restrained. "Let's head to Gotham. This mission has already been filed with headquarters."

"So urgent?"

"After all, it's Gotham. No one wants to visit that city in the dead of night—especially when your destination is Arkham Asylum."

Ethan scratched his head. She had a point.

More importantly, extracting a patient from Arkham would inevitably involve crossing paths with Bruce Wayne.

Whether as the daytime playboy or the nighttime Bat.

"Wow, the American Bureau sure has deep pockets. They actually refurbished an old airborne command center just for us."

Ethan sat in the spacious lounge, flipping through the stacks of files Ada had prepared. The piles were massive, mostly detailed dossiers on various extraordinary individuals.

The first file was, of course, Harley Quinn.

Unlike the case file Nick Fury had given him, this one was a full biography—from the exact second of her birth to trivial habits, even recording which finger she used most to pick her nose.

This was the intelligence capability of the world's largest spy organization in full display.

And the "detailed team formation plan" Fury had promised? One page. Not even fully filled. Fury clearly wanted this done fast.

"Choose whoever you like? Whether human or not? Am I being scammed?" Ethan muttered. Fury's team formation scheme seemed almost like a cover to collect superheroes.

"This Airbus was operating at full capacity until the 1990s. After the construction of the flying aircraft carrier, it became more symbolic, but its performance and payload are top-notch," Ada said as she left the cockpit and sat next to Ethan. "I take it you've seen Fury's team formation plan already?"

"Yes. After reading it, I felt like I'd walked into a scam. Can I just arrest him? Throw that black egg into some cybercrime gang and see who becomes the boss?"

"Fury does have that style. But the simplicity of the plan actually shows how much autonomy the team has."

"Of course I understand that. I'm recruiting a lunatic as a teammate—autonomy is mandatory! If we were in the Republic, some old guy on the street would report us to human rights immediately. But more than the purpose of this team, I'm curious why Fury specifically chose Harley Quinn as the first member."

"Strictly speaking, I'm actually the first member of the team," Ada said, lightly biting her red lips, which shimmered slightly. "As for Harley Quinn, the reason Fury designated her.
