Chapter 2 - 2: Editing My Own Settings, A Captain America Unit

Damon froze, staring blankly at a line of small text in the upper-left corner of his vision:

[Map Editor V1.0 Version]

Next to it was a progress bar:

Anomaly Points: 0/100

He blinked.

[Anomalous entities detected — Madison, Peter, Harry, Mary Jane. Gained 400 Anomaly Points.]

[Map Editor upgraded to V1.2. Anomaly Points: 100/300.]

The 3D holographic map expanded outward.

Looking closely, it now covered a radius of about 300 meters.

"Anomaly points… anomalous entities… could it be…"

Damon's eyes flickered. He immediately glanced toward the other senior-year classes and even the sophomore section.

[Anomalous entities detected — Dave, Connors, Michaela, Sam, Maria, Merlin Dragonring. Gained 600 Anomaly Points.]

[Map Editor upgraded to V1.4. Anomaly Points: 0/500.]

The 3D projection expanded again—now encompassing a 600-meter radius.

The entire public high school was now fully mapped.

"If this thing really is a map editor, then…"

With a thought, Damon clicked on his own in-map avatar.

A character settings panel appeared.

Name: Damon (Human)

Attributes:

Strength: 8

Intelligence: 8

Agility: 8

Endurance: 9

Soul Strength: 10

Energy: 0

(For reference: the human physical limit for the first five attributes is 10. The first four attributes are interconnected. Intelligence includes energy recovery speed, flexibility of thought, and memory. Agility covers movement speed and neural reaction time. Strength and endurance determine raw power, durability, and recovery rate.)

Inventory: Empty (6 slots)

Skills: None

Power Level: Ordinary human. Nothing special.

At this point, Damon discovered something incredible—

the attributes could be edited!

He opened the attribute panel, double-clicked a number, and found he could input custom values.

After a few cautious tests,

he redefined his stats as:

[Strength: 40 | Intelligence: 40 | Agility: 40 | Endurance: 40 | Soul Strength: 40 | Energy: 40]

Once he clicked Confirm, a mysterious force surged through him.

In an instant, his body transformed.

His muscles grew firm and well-defined—not bulky or grotesque, but perfectly balanced.

He could feel terrifying strength coursing through his veins.

"At this point, my physical stats are four times the human limit… rounding up, doesn't that make me the new Captain America?"

For a moment, Damon felt surreal.

Only when he accidentally bent a steel pen with one hand did reality sink in—

his excitement boiled over.

"I don't need the Super Soldier Serum anymore!"

Of course, that was an exaggeration. He wasn't quite at Captain America's level yet.

The movie version of Captain America:

—Wielding an adamantium-vibranium shield, the man could stand toe-to-toe with gods and aliens.

The real Captain America?

Let's just say if Asgard ever showed up again, Thor could clear a plaza full of them with one swing.

Six divine-tier items, max level, millennia of battle experience—there's no comparison.

Refocusing, Damon continued to study his newfound golden finger.

After tinkering for a bit, he confirmed—

this really was a mutated version of a Map Editor.

At Version 1.4,

he could not only modify his attributes,

but also choose six basic skills from a massive skill library.

Skills could be swapped at will—

meaning there was effectively no upper limit to what he could learn.

And as the editor's version upgraded further,

the number of skill slots would continue to expand.

Before transmigrating, the map he'd opened was one he had personally developed over several years—

a massive, multiversal battle arena combining worlds from video games, comics, and movies alike.

So the current version's skill library contained thousands of abilities.

Jin Yong wuxia, The Eye Legend from Five-Village Melees, Dragon Ball, King of Fighters, Madoka, CrossFire — everything was there.

The theme: pure chaos.

Once the map editor kept upgrading, he could even create new skills, items, and so on.

After a bit of study, Damon picked a balanced kit—skills that covered offense and defense:

Defensive skill: Earth Core

Escape/teleport: Blink

Control: Kinetic Field

Single-target output: Chidori

Healing + special damage: Holy Light

AoE: Flame Storm

Those six slots weren't fixed — Damon could swap them anytime to suit the situation.

There were no cooldowns; as long as he had enough Energy, he could cast continuously.

Because these were ordinary-level skills, they didn't cost much Energy—about 2 points per cast.

"Not bad — now this is how a transmigration should roll."

Damon nodded in satisfaction, then looked at the map editor's innate functions.

Within the 3D map's view, Damon could move any non-sapient object in that space at will: an abandoned house, streetlights, billboards, big trees, walls, ponds, etc. — but only as whole objects.

And when placing those objects, the new spot couldn't contain any sentient beings.

That meant he couldn't directly kill enemies with it, but he could block, trap, or encircle them. Plenty useful.

Damon spent the whole day testing the golden cheat and got a solid grasp of its basic functions.

"Big potential!" his eyes glittered. "As the version rises, more functions will unlock. Not only will attributes grow crazier, but more powers will awaken."

"Powerful characters still locked away — the Starforger Dragon King, Sargeras, Sun Wukong, Madoka, Shining Tiga, Noah, the Blade Queen, Asura… so many!"

"And there are special guests like Popeye, Grey Wolf, Tom Cat, Jerry and his relatives."

"In games you only worry about balance. In reality, there's so much more to consider."

"And the map editor can create anything. Once more unlocks open up, you'll naturally be able to create things that didn't exist before."

"Besides, it can record anomalous objects from the real world — any major character or item that gates in becomes material for the editor…"

"…which basically turns them into part of my power!"

Damon suddenly saw a bright future.

Forget the Four Slasher Demons and those so-called gourmet killers. One line: I'll fight ten of them!

When the dismissal bell rang, Damon packed up and left with Madison.

"By the way, Madison—about the weekend trip, I thought it over. Pick anywhere you want. I'll come with you."

Madison blinked in surprise. "Didn't we agree on the amusement park?"

Damon answered seriously, "An amusement park isn't thrilling enough. I need some pressure. Except Elm Street and Silent Hill, of course."

Of the Four Slasher Demons, Freddy and Jason were the trickiest.

Jason could resurrect infinitely and grow stronger with each death.

Freddy had similar abilities and loved killing people in dreams — truly dangerous.

Freddy was the hardest to deal with because he didn't manifest in reality.

As for Silent Hill… the first one was manageable; Silent Hill 2 was a straight train to hell.

"Not thrilling enough?" Madison was puzzled — aren't amusement parks supposed to be the most exciting places?

"Then let's go to Crystal Lake — the web says it's the best teen vacation spot."

"OK. Meet at your place tomorrow morning."

Damon nodded and agreed decisively. To get stronger, he had to actively seek more anomalous entities. As one of the Four Slasher Demons, Jason wouldn't disappoint.
