Chapter 101 - Chapter 101

The assembled heroes and anti-heroes gathered in the main lobby of Pokémon Home, a hum of anticipation filling the air. Orion Oak, standing confidently with Pikachu on his shoulder and Latias at his side, cleared his throat to capture everyone's attention.

"Welcome, trainers, to the inaugural Pokémon Tournament!" Orion announced, his voice carrying clearly across the diverse group. "I know many of you are eager to begin, so let's get straight to the rules."

He gestured to a large holographic screen that shimmered to life, displaying a bracket. "This will be a single-elimination tournament. Since most of you currently possess only one Pokémon, all battles will be one-on-one matches."

Orion's gaze swept over the crowd, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "Remember, while competition is encouraged, the primary goal here is growth and camaraderie. Fair play and respect for your opponents, both human and Pokémon, are absolutely essential."

Pikachu chirped in agreement, its tail twitching. Latias, ever serene, offered a gentle nod, her presence adding a calming effect to the excited chatter.

"Any questions?" Orion asked.

A few hands went up, but before anyone could speak, the holographic screen shifted, displaying the matchups for Round 1. A collective murmur spread through the crowd as trainers reacted to their pairings.

"Alright, let's see these matchups!" Orion declared, a touch of showmanship in his voice. "First up, we have Batgirl versus Squirrel Girl!"

Barbara raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk forming on her face as she looked at Doreen.

"Oh, this is gonna be nuts!" Doreen exclaimed, Tippy-Toe chittering excitedly from her shoulder. "No hard feelings, Babs, but Emolga and I are going for that egg!"

"Next, Starfire will face Poison Ivy!" Orion continued.

Starfire's eyes widened with an earnest, eager expression. "I anticipate a most joyous exchange of Pokémon abilities, friend Ivy!"

Ivy, however, just sighed, a faint tremor running through the Budew in her arms. "Harley, remind me why I agreed to this."

Harley giggled. "Because it'll be fun, Red! And then we can buy all the new plants for your greenhouse!"

"Following that, Beast Boy will be battling Valeria Richards!"

Beast Boy instantly transformed into a green gorilla, thumping his chest. "Get ready to rumble, Brainstorm! Beast Boy and Rockruff are gonna rock your world!"

Valeria merely adjusted her glasses, a glint of scientific calculation in her eyes. "I assure you, Beast Boy, I won't be defeated so easily."

"And finally, for the first round, we have Cyborg against Franklin Richards!" Orion announced.

"BOOYAH! Bring it on, Frankie!" Cyborg boomed, giving Whismur a playful pat. "Me and Whismur's tunes are gonna blast you straight into the next dimension!"

Franklin, holding Ralts, offered a slightly nervous but determined smile. "Ralts and I will do our best, Cyborg. My powers might be cosmic, but I'm pretty good at strategy too!"

Orion then pointed to the top of the bracket. "Ms. Marvel, Harley Quinn, Robin, and Raven have been seeded so they will be fighting in the next round."

Harley blew a kiss to the crowd, basking in the attention, while Ms. Marvel gave a thumbs-up. Robin crossed his arms, a hint of disdain for the "seeded" advantage, while Raven merely observed, her expression unreadable.

A palpable energy now filled the Pokémon Home lobby. Batgirl and Squirrel Girl immediately began a friendly rivalry.

"My Emolga is going to zap your Froakie into next week, Batgirl!" Doreen declared, striking a confident pose with Tippy-Toe chittering on her shoulder.

"We'll see about that, Squirrel Girl," Barbara replied, a playful smirk on her face. "Froakie's got some surprises up his sleeve, or, you know, his bubble frill."

Starfire offered a sweet, earnest smile to Poison Ivy. "I anticipate a most joyous exchange of Pokémon abilities, friend Ivy!"

"Go, Ivy, go!" Harley cheered, doing a little jump with Budew in her arms.

Ivy smiled, a rare, soft expression gracing her lips. "I'll do my best, Starfire."

Beast Boy and Valeria immediately launched into a flurry of playful trash talk, each boasting about their Pokémon's superior abilities.

"My Rockruff is going to make your Beldum see stars, Valeria!" Beast Boy roared, transforming into a green bear. "You won't know what hit you!"

Valeria merely adjusted her glasses, a glint of scientific calculation in her eyes. "I assure you, Beast Boy, Beldum's metallic composition provides superior defense. Your Rockruff will merely scratch the surface."

Cyborg and Franklin, ever the strategists, quietly assessed their opponents, a shared understanding of tactical planning in their expressions.

"Whismur and I have been working on some new sound patterns, Franklin," Cyborg said, a low hum emanating from his arm cannon. "Prepare for the ultimate sonic boom!"

Franklin, holding Ralts, offered a slightly nervous but determined smile. "Ralts and I will do our best, Cyborg. My powers might be cosmic, but I'm pretty good at strategy too!"

Most participants were eager for the fun and challenge, while a few, like Robin, maintained a focused, analytical demeanor, already mentally mapping out potential scenarios.

"Orion, will this tournament be streamed for public viewing?" Robin asked, his tone clipped and precise. "Such events could provide valuable data on Pokémon combat dynamics."

Orion smiled, his eyes twinkling. "An excellent question, Robin. I was just about to address that."

He gestured to the large holographic screen, which now displayed a "Live Stream" icon. "I would like to livestream the entire tournament, with everyone's permission, of course."

Orion explained, "It will help spread awareness and excitement for Pokémon Home and the upcoming world transformation. All footage will be handled with respect, and participants can opt out of certain public features if they wish."

"BOOYAH! Let's get this party started!" Cyborg cheered, raising a cybernetic fist. "The world needs to see the Titans in action!"

"I agree," Starfire chimed in. "The sharing of joy and camaraderie should be widespread!"

Harley bounced on the balls of her feet. "Ooh, a live show! Can I get a special spotlight on me and Houndour? We're gonna be famous!"

Even Robin gave a curt nod of approval, clearly seeing the strategic benefits. Everyone readily agreed, eager to share their Pokémon journeys with the wider world.

Orion gave a satisfied nod, a sense of quiet triumph in his eyes. "Excellent! Then let's not waste another moment." He turned and gestured toward a wide, arching doorway that shimmered with an inviting light. "Please, follow Latias to the Battle Arena. Let the tournament begin!"

Latias gracefully glided toward the portal, her movements fluid and inviting, leading the excited group toward the arena where their Pokémon would soon test their strength and bonds.
