Chapter 29 - [The place of regrets]

Sam and Kito were panting heavily as they stepped into a dark, foreboding space filled with dozens of shimmering mirrors. The atmosphere was thick with an unsettling energy, and an uneasy feeling crept over them as they hugged each other tightly. Each reflection seemed to peer back at them, almost sentient in its gaze. "This place is seriously creepy," Sam murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. Kito nodded, eyes wide with fear. "Let's just run before anything happens," he urged, glancing nervously around the room. With adrenaline coursing through their veins, they began to sprint. But in the chaos, Sam turned to check on Kito and realised he had lost sight of him. Panic surged within him."Kito! Where are you?" he shouted."I'm right here!" Kito's voice echoed from somewhere in the shadows, but when Sam scanned the dimly lit room, he couldn't spot him. Just as he started running in Kito's direction, he collided with a cold, unyielding mirror, the impact sending pain shooting through him."AAAAA!" Sam shouted, clutching his head in agony. On the other side of the room, a more profound darkness enveloped Kito. He stared into the reflective surface, where a woman's image smiled back at him — a smile that chilled him to the bone."Kito," the reflection purred with a sinister sweetness, "how do you feel after killing me?"Kito's heart raced, terror mingling with disbelief. "I didn't kill you! It was your fault!" he protested, his voice trembling. The woman threw her head back and laughed, a sound devoid of warmth. "So, I stabbed myself to death, did I?" Tears streamed down Kito's face as he shouted, "You treated me like trash! You drove me to it!"The woman leaned closer, her eyes glinting with malevolence. "You killed your own mother, Kito. But don't worry, I forgive you. Just come with me, and we can be a family again."Without warning, a pale hand emerged from the mirror, reaching for him. Desperation clawed at Kito as he grasped the hand, feeling it pull him toward the darkness. Just then, a dagger sliced through the cursed grip, severing it cleanly. It was Sam, having destroyed the mirror with a fierce resolve."Hey, are you nuts? What the hell were you thinking?" Sam shouted, his face a mix of anger and concern. Kito staggered back, breathless, as the remnants of the malevolent presence faded into the darkness. Together, they stood, shaken but united against the chilling forces of the mirror maze.

Kito's voice trembled as he whispered an apology, "Sorry."San quickly turned to him, gripping his shoulder with reassuring firmness. "Kito, it wasn't your fault. You need to understand that." Kito nodded slowly, the weight of regret still heavy in the air around them. As they steadied themselves, the mirrors encircling them began to shimmer with haunting reflections of their past failures. Shadows twisted and elongated, revealing their deepest regrets. Holding onto each other tightly, Sam and Kito braced themselves as the mirrors unleashed dark figures that loomed closer, their sinister smiles twisting into grotesque shapes. The figures' icy hands reached out, trying to pull them in. Instinctively, Sam drew his dagger, its blade glinting with a fierce resolve, while Kito unleashed his raw strength. Together, they fought against the onslaught—Kito tearing through the sinister grasp with pure determination, Sam slashing at the encroaching darkness. They bled from the assault, pain coursing through them, but their resolve only burned brighter as they struggled against despair. As they sprinted through the winding paths of the maze, an eerie, mirrorless space emerged before them—a strange oasis amid the chaotic twists and turns. Both Kito and Sam halted, their chests heaving from the exertion of their escape, grateful to find a sanctuary where they could catch their breath. Kito turned to Sam, his eyes reflecting both fear and resolve. "This place... It's warping our deepest regrets into monsters," he said, his voice low and trembling. Sam glanced around, unease creeping into his thoughts. "So, what's our next move?"A determined spark ignited in Kito's gaze. "The rules say we have to confront our fears. So let's face them head-on."With a shared nod, they prepared themselves for the challenges that lay ahead, ready to unravel the shadows lurking in the depths of their minds.
