Ruby's POV
Kate left in a rage, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. She would probably spend hours trying to decode that budget spreadsheet herself, which meant my window of opportunity was closing fast.
"Can I get back to my work now?" I asked Richard.
He exhaled heavily, his frustration obvious. "Honestly, what do you think you'll accomplish by going against the Karls? They could destroy you without breaking a sweat."
"Maybe I'm an idiot, but I refuse to let them walk all over me."
I left his office and walked back to my workspace.
The first thing I did was survey the damage. Papers scattered across the floor, documents shredded, everything turned upside down. I spent several minutes trying to scrub away the offensive word they had spray-painted across my desk surface. The paint wouldn't budge. Eventually, I stopped trying.
