The revelation about Elias's first love hit me like a punch to the gut.
Some girl from Holden Pack. A childhood sweetheart who vanished without a trace.
But it couldn't have been me. I had no memory of living in Europe with my mother. And I was definitely nobody's idea of nobility.
"Did they ever search for her again?" I pressed.
The Karl family had enough resources to track down anyone on the planet.
"They tried everything," Justin said with a shrug. "But the second she and her mother crossed into Holden territory, they disappeared completely. Maybe they figured out what a walking disaster Elias was and decided to stay hidden."
A sharp ache spread through my chest. "So he lost her... and then found Bonnie in college?"
"Exactly. And man, those two were like wildfire together. I've never seen anything like it. They went from strangers to soulmates in record time. Dating, living together, engaged, married - the whole nine yards in twelve months flat."
