Chapter 2 - Ep.2Voices of the Spirits in the Rain

The storm continued its relentless assault on the mountainside, but under the fragile shelter of the old wooden house, Kim and Ella moved cautiously. The rain lashed against the roof in a steady drumbeat, mixing with the distant echoes of gunfire.

Ella pressed herself against the wooden wall, shivering not just from the cold, but from the raw tension that hung in the air. Kim's eyes scanned the surroundings, alert for any signs of pursuit. Despite the storm, the faint traces of footsteps in the mud told him that whoever had been shooting her had not yet left.

"Who are they?" he asked quietly, his voice as cold and sharp as a mountain night, yet layered with concern.

Ella shook her head, her dark hair plastered against her face by the rain. "I… I don't know. They call me a threat… but I don't understand why." Her voice trembled, and a flicker of energy shimmered from her eyes — a ghostly glow that reflected pain, fear, and an ancient curse.

Kim's gaze softened imperceptibly. "Then you'll stay here until I know you're safe. No one comes close while I'm around."

The words were sharp and commanding, yet protective. Ella felt a strange warmth — a comfort she hadn't felt in years.

As night deepened, the storm outside became a backdrop to an even stranger phenomenon inside the house. Tiny motes of light, almost invisible, hovered in the air — fragments of spirits trapped between worlds. Kim observed them carefully, recognizing some as remnants of curses he had encountered before.

"You can see them," he stated, more than asked. His voice was steady, but curiosity lingered beneath the surface.

Ella nodded slowly. "They… follow me. Sometimes they guide me, sometimes they warn me… and sometimes they scream for help." Her eyes darkened with memory. "I think they know something… about my past. About who I am."

Kim leaned closer, rain dripping from his hair. "Then we'll find out together. You're not alone anymore."

For the first time, a flicker of trust passed between them. The storm outside mirrored the turbulence of their lives, yet in that small, fragile shelter, a connection — born of danger, secrets, and power — began to form.

Suddenly, a loud crash interrupted their fragile calm. The door rattled violently, as if someone — or something — was trying to break in. Kim's hand instinctively reached out, spiritual energy manifesting as sharp, glowing bullets hovering around his palm.

"Stay behind me," he said, low but commanding. "Whatever comes through that door… it won't get past us."

Ella swallowed hard, the glow in her eyes intensifying. "I… I'll help," she whispered.

And in that moment, the old wooden house became more than a refuge. It was the first battlefield of a bond forged by danger, power, and the unspoken promise that neither would face the darkness alone.

The night was far from over. Outside, shadows moved, and somewhere in the rain, their pursuers were watching, waiting, preparing to strike again. But for Kim and Ella, the storm was no longer just a threat — it was a catalyst, awakening powers, trust, and feelings neither could deny.
