Fell less than two meters. Staircase appeared from nowhere. Caught Miranda.
Miranda looked up. "Jump!"
Hofa cursed silently. Lunatics built this school!
Jumped over railing. Portraits grumbling. Dropped two meters. Moving staircase turned suddenly. Caught him. Didn't want him dead.
Following Miranda. Navigated shifting staircases midair.
Seven stories. Leaped down just like that.
Hit ground. Miranda shoved open wooden door in moving wall.
Ahead—corridor kept changing positions.
Doors spun like lottery wheels.
Miranda decisive. Pushed them open one by one.
Corridor's end—black iron door. Hofa tried pushing. Miranda stopped him.
"Wait."
Hofa stood still.
Ten seconds. Wall crashed into this wall. Hey, my territory, buddy.
This wall had oak door.
Miranda pulled Hofa through immediately.
After they vanished, another wall irritably shoved this one.
Inside—Transfiguration classroom.
Circular room. Ring desks. Full of kids. Tall auburn-haired man leaning casually against podium.
Kids heard noise. Turned to newcomers.
Hofa's heart sank. Still late?
Dumbledore looked interested.
Glanced at clock. Smiled. "Three minutes late. Should deduct three points. But today's staircases' day off. I'll give you three instead. Find seats quickly."
Hofa breathed relief.
Staircases' day off. They have holidays...
No wonder they ran around excitedly.
Four houses together. Popular Dumbledore teaching. Good seats near podium—all taken.
Miranda sat corner. Settled. Waved at Hofa. Signaled sit beside her.
Hofa reluctant. Her corner already had silver-haired girl.
Class started. Couldn't be picky. Sat reluctantly.
Aglaia glanced at them. Frowned. Shifted one centimeter right. Showing disgust.
Two Gryffindor boys to her right flushed red. Too embarrassed to speak.
Kids' petty conflicts bored Hofa. Pulled out notes. Listened carefully.
Becoming Animagus—must-achieve goal.
Coming to HP world without transforming into favorite animal? What's the point? To become Animagus—couldn't miss Dumbledore's classes.
Everyone sat. Dumbledore nodded satisfied. Cleared throat. Tapped desk with wand.
Desk let out thunderous roar.
"ROAR!"
Changed from four-legged desk to four-legged lion.
Front-row students jumped back.
Dumbledore waved wand. Pouncing lion became small black-white badger midair.
Snuffled around. Suddenly wings sprouted sides. Became wide-wingspan eagle.
Eagle flapped up. Circled classroom three times. Slowly descended.
Landing—legs merged, lengthened. Touched down—elegant spotted python. Hissing tongue.
Python coiled back to podium. Dumbledore tapped wand. Snake became desk.
All students stunned. Hofa included. Past life—countless cool magic effects in movies. But this real, precise transformation? Unprecedented.
After becoming headmaster, Dumbledore rarely demonstrated Transfiguration mastery. People didn't know—true master.
Under shocked gazes, Dumbledore spoke slowly.
"Transfiguration. Most complex, demanding magic. How to change structure without destroying essence—eternal debate of generations."
Seeing students listening attentively, waved wand.
Curtains closed.
Classroom darkened. Projection screens descended.
Dumbledore: "First class—won't teach magic first. Will teach Transfiguration's most important quality—caution."
As he spoke, black-white photos flashed.
Hofa's eyes widened. Screens showed horrifying monsters.
Dumbledore: "In Transfiguration, some wizards went further than others. Every great transformation imaginable—attempted by various wizards. Some succeeded. More failed pursuing knowledge.
Failure reason, without exception—insufficient caution."
Photos stopped.
Hofa saw huge hand-drawn Sphinx.
"2000 BCE. Ancient Egypt's great master, Sphinx, reached ultimate in Transfiguration pursuit. Unfortunately, confused structure and essence. During transformation, became half-man half-lion monster. Lost sanity."
Projection changed.
Woman—pained expression. Human face, bird body.
Dumbledore: "1000 BCE. Ancient Greece's greatest witch, Siren. Pursuing flight, sacrificed sanity. Completely stripped humanity. Became human-faced bird monster. To this day, descendants wander Greek peninsula in agony."
Projection showed half-man half-bull drawing.
Dumbledore: "13 CE. Famous wizard Minotaur tried becoming bull during duel. Unfortunately, anger clouded mind. Spent life neither human nor bull. Surviving on own vomit..."
As podium man spoke calmly, classroom faces paled.
Hofa hadn't expected mythological monsters real. Most related to Transfiguration.
Past life reading novels—only saw Animagi fun. Never imagined dangerous stories behind.
After dozen failed cases, classroom silent.
Suddenly, arm shot up.
Dumbledore nodded. "Tom, go ahead."
Tom Riddle stood slowly. Asked respectfully, "Sir, what means change structure without changing essence? In my view, structure changes, essence must too."
"Very key question, Tom." Dumbledore mild:
"Every master holds different views. But in my view, essence is purpose and heart. Using heart's goal as beacon, guided by love and tolerance—maintain yourself through complex Transfiguration. Of course, applies only to biological transformation like Animagi."
Tom polite. "Thank you, sir."
Sat down. Hofa couldn't see expression. Past life reading—didn't know if Voldemort was Animagus. But now seemed Voldemort's strength—Dark Arts, not Transfiguration.
After answering Tom's question, Dumbledore had each student take small wood. Use wands to transform into other shapes.
After getting wood, Hofa saw students pull wands. Started tapping.
Classroom flashed colorful cheerful lights. Some muttered incantations.
Some wood burst flames. Some became mud puddles. Some grew legs and ran.
Dumbledore reminded loudly, "Be rational, not chaotic! Keep goal in mind!"
Useless. Young wizards together—no idea what to do.
Ravenclaw and Slytherin relatively calm. Gryffindor and Hufflepuff nearly blew roof off.
Two Gryffindor boys beside Aglaia same. One turned wood into pig's head. Other made his explode. Face black, hair standing.
Aglaia showed disgust and mockery. Shifted left.
Miranda silently pulled wand. Tapped wood. Floated up. Slowly transforming midair.
Finally became owl-shaped thing. Looked ugly. Barely counted as owl.
Miranda told Hofa, "Dumbledore should give at least five points."
"Ridiculous." Aglaia answered instead.
Folded arms. Sneered. "Satisfied with that garbage?"
Miranda looked at Aglaia gently but politely. As if saying, You do better!
Silver-haired girl proudly pulled wand glimmering silver light. Pointed at wood.
Under Hofa's shocked gaze, her wood slowly grew, spread across desk. Became exquisite tree sculpture. Carving lifelike. Even tiny leaves. Could see veins.
Transformation complete. Put away wand. Sneered at Miranda.
Miranda looked at tree sculpture, then own owl. Shrugged. "You're amazing."
Didn't argue with Aglaia. Didn't even get angry.
Hofa admired Miranda. Not angry after being dissed—if it were him...
Aglaia said to Miranda, "But you're not bad. Some people don't even dare try."
Spoke with head high. Eyes firmly watching Hofa from corner.
Wanted to see this arrogant, cold boy embarrass himself.
