â° Resets Monday!
~~~~ââ~~~~~~~~ââ~~~~
That night, after Indor left, Hofa didn't return to the orphanage. Rented a small room at the Leaky Cauldron instead. Ate some wizard roast and fresh fruit for dinner.
He had 100 Galleons. After buying his wand and books, over 70 remained. For an eleven-year-old, quite wealthy.
Only temporarily.
Seven years at Hogwarts ahead. This money wouldn't be enough.
But future problems were for the future. Live well in the presentâHofa's creed.
During the busy day he'd felt nothing. But once night settled, excitement wouldn't subside. He kept taking out his new wand, examining it repeatedly. Carefully experiencing magic flowing through his body.
Late night, he couldn't hold back. Pulled out his Charms textbook.
Tried a few simple spells. The miraculous wand didn't disappoint.
Ollivander's so-called "unfinished" wand worked perfectly.
The Levitation Charm that troubled Ron and HarryâHofa mastered it almost instantly.
Sat on the bed, pointed his wand at the pillow, recited the spell.
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
The pillow whooshed around the bed.
After playing a bit, Hofa worried about underage magic. Would the Ministry come after him? He spent the whole night torn between anxiety and excitement.
Turned out he'd worried for nothing. No one came.
Before school started, Hofa exchanged a few Galleons for pounds. Bought ordinary clothes in Londonâjeans and white shirts. His old clothes were too shabby.
Then bought fruit and pine nut wine. Took them back to Mrs. Cole as a parting gift. Though his soul wasn't the original Hofa's, this body had been cared for by her a long time.
Remaining time, he stayed in Diagon Alley. Hoped to complete the system's 100% exploration for the [Knowledge of the Great God].
Unfortunately, too young to enter Knockturn Alley or dangerous dark magic shops. His exploration stopped at 60%.
Disappointing. He only now realized the advantage of Harry's Invisibility Cloak. If he could turn invisible, he could go anywhere. These exploration tasks would be easy.
Too bad Harry's father wasn't even born yet. Who knew where that cloak was.
Hofa wanted to try the Disillusionment Charm with his new wand. But that spell wasn't in the basic school books. He read through all the spell booksâmostly household spells. Nothing advanced.
Maybe the school library would have information. Hofa consoled himself.
As for Indor's earringâHofa studied it for days. Found nothing special.
Worse, he couldn't remove it. The earring seemed grown into his ear. Hofa could only pray Hogwarts allowed students some personality.
In his past life, wearing an earring to school would've gotten him kicked out day one.
Time in Diagon Alley flew. Soon September 1st arrivedâschool day.
He woke especially early. Before dawn. Afraid some accident would make him late.
Hofa didn't have much. Didn't need a trolley. Spent 2 pounds on a canvas bag and suitcase. Packed clothes and books in the bag, collapsible cauldron in the suitcase.
Good thing he woke early. Pouring rain. On the road, Hofa hit London's morning rush hour. He crossed several streets before reaching the subway.
At least London had a subway. Not as developed as the future, but it went directly to King's Cross.
The 1938 Underground wasn't as efficient as future Beijing or Shanghai. Not very fast. Still had knitted seat cushions reeking of cat piss.
Soldiers wearing green helmets and carrying rifles stood in the car, swaying.
They gathered together, joking. Some looked around curiously.
All looked young. Probably newly recruited, heading somewhere to report.
Hofa sat in the corner with his bag, watching these soldiers. Deeply moved. In a few years, most of them probably wouldn't be around.
Sometimes knowing the future wasn't easy.
Especially in turbulent times.
King's Cross Station was in central London, on the Camden side of the boundary with Islington.
When Hofa walked out, many people were already there. Most dressed like Muggles. Some wizards dressed inappropriatelyâunfamiliar with Muggle customs.
Hofa saw several men in dresses standing by the station, picking their noses and chatting.
Hofa knew the method. Didn't need to ask like Harry. After finding platforms 9 and 10, he adjusted his backpack and charged at the wall between them.
While charging, he closed his eyes.
Faster and faster.
Thenâ
Thud!
Eyes closed, charging wildly, Hofa slammed into something soft.
Clattering chaos followed.
Caught off guard, Hofa tumbled and rolled twice.
What the hell?
First thought.
Better not have killed myself!
He scrambled up awkwardly. Looked at what he'd hit.
Not the wall. A silver-haired girl. She'd been pushing a trolley right between platforms 9 and 10.
He'd practically crashed into her, scattering luggage everywhere.
Hofa wanted to curse. Why was she blocking the path? Obviously not a Muggleâamong the scattered items was a white owl flapping in its cage.
Everyone else went through vertically. Did she have to go horizontally?!
Annoyed, Hofa stepped forward. Pulled the girl up, started collecting her things.
"Sorry. You okay?" Hofa asked while picking things up, not looking up.
The silver-haired girl stood, crossed her arms, watched Hofa collect her things. No intention of helping.
Only silence.
Halfway through collecting, Hofa felt something wrong. Sure, I crashed into you, but you don't need to stay silent. Would helping kill you?
He looked up. Examined the girl carefully.
First glanceâstunned.
Beautiful little girl. Fair skin, oval face, silver hair over shoulders. Simple white dress. Large blue eyes stared without blinking. Like a ghost.
Amazement lasted less than a second before anger.
The girl said, "Keep going. Why'd you stop?"
Her ghostly blue eyes full of pride and dissatisfaction.
Hofa's face darkened. His temper was good, but he wouldn't be treated like a house-elf. Besides, she'd blocked the way first.
"Why were you blocking the path?" Hofa stood, asked coldly.
"I'm looking for Platform 9Ÿ. Do you know where it is?" the girl asked indifferently.
Ha. A first-year like him. Knew nothing but acted arrogant.
Hofa looked at her ignorant yet haughty expression. Wanted to mess with her.
He pointed behind her. "Look, isn't that the platform?"
The girl turned.
Hofa seized the moment. Dove through the wall, disappeared.
The girl looked back. "Where?"
No answer.
She turned around again.
Empty space. Only half-collected luggage and a screeching owl. The boy was gone.
The girl's face darkened.
Emerging through the wall, Hofa cursed gleefully.
Fooled you. That's what you get.
After teaching that arrogant girl a lesson, Hofa saw a brass plaque on a stone pillar.
[Platform 9ŸâEstablished 1849, Founded by Evangeline Orpington (15th Minister of Magic)]
Not useful. Hofa glanced and walked out.
Sea of people. A deep red steam locomotive sat beside the packed platform. Sign read: Hogwarts Express, 11 o'clock.
Steam swirled above the rain. Cats wove between feet. Amid buzzing voices and luggage clatter, owls screeched.
Before he could admire the sceneâ
This triggered an exploration task?
After shock, Hofa was overjoyed.
Any wizard settlement could trigger tasks.
Not like the Market with Knockturn Alley he couldn't enter. Just a platform. If he moved fast, he could explore completely.
Without hesitation, Hofa began.
Ran from train front to back.
Along the way, saw children with various pets. Frogs, owls, cats, rats, snakes, birds... Also saw handsome Tom Riddle chatting with upper-year girls in green robes.
None of this concerned Hofa. All attention on his mind's eye.
As he explored, the green bar grew visibly.
